  1. Do they have more than 3, I didnt realize, and I didnt think their draw was their main stream movies.
  2. Yea I guess. Maybe i was thinking Tower City and the multiple ones planned for the FEB (oops). Otherwise Detroit road in Lakewood, and the planned makeover of the ones on Lorain Rd for movies. If all this was indeed happening I would think it was overkill and that Detroit Shoreway would be best to be the "Cedar Lee" west
  3. Unless they are thinking in terms of "future home of the Cleveland film fest" it seems like overkill, especially if they were only going to be an "art" theatre house. Theres too many other theatre options showing regular films.
  4. Also I had to laugh when Forset City said ""This is all done with smoke and mirrors." Hmmm, the experts at "smoke and mirrors"
  5. I hate to say this but maybe they need to bring in Mr. Peter Lewis to knock some skulls together (again). I dont know that he is being tapped for this project, but he probably should be since it is in line with one of his passions (no not pot). I would hope that he is subsequently being tapped for the Contemporary Art Museum, since he tends to be generous with such things (at least in NY), and he isnt likely to settle for mediocrity when it comes to something like this. As much as I have disliked his sense of arrogance, I think this is a case where some ass kissing is in order, since it really is too important to settle for this mediocre piece of you know what that we will have to live wlth for a long time.
  6. I cant believe St. Stephen is on the list. As you said St. Stephen is really a beautiful church and has amazing woodwork. It was my favorite interior from my sadred landmarks class. This is really sad stuff and troubling for the neighborhoods.
  7. Agreed. I have mixed feelings as well. Many people like Panera, and it certainly would help to liven things up further in that area, but there are still many independent bakeries and coffee shops that I like to support and I hate to see Panera take away from that. Yes there was an unconfirmed rumor a while back of the new owners of the building on that corner. Lakewood should really be hoping with this and the redevelopment of the party store building into the 5 guys etc.
  8. I thought the same thing. If it was only the last estimate out of many that came too high, maybe with the lower material cost etc., it would now be do-able. It certainly deserved another look anyway.
  9. "Media Darling La Lauren in the paper again!" I knew it as soon as I saw the headline that DocBroc was making her weekly news appearance. (maybe you should just change professions and be a full time news correspondent )
  10. Even though some of the shows at the IX will not fit downtown? Is it correct that the current plan and cost estaimate does not include any expansion of the current space downtown..? (Not in line with the 2 options that were floated for expanding)
  11. Do they somehow resemble legs kicking like in a chorus line? I think thats what I remember reading that the artist was trying to invoke.

Kindof funny timing right after somebody asked about MOCA. To be expected I guess. Hopefully they do stay with the their initial and intended design and dont have to scale it down because of problems raising the funds. From the PD: http://www.cleveland.com/arts/index.ssf/2009/03/museum_of_contemporary_art_cle_1.html Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland delays unveiling of new building design Posted by slitt March 09, 2009 17:40PM Clevelanders will have to wait a bit longer to see plans for the new home of the Museum of Contemporary Art building proposed for the Triangle development in University Circle, aka Uptown. Jill Snyder, MOCA's director, said Monday that the while the institution has reached the halfway mark in fundraising for the project, that's not enough to satisfy the board of trustees that it's time to go public. She said she sent a letter to museum supporters on Friday describing the status of the project. MOCA had planned to unveil the plans and head into the public phase of the campaign this month. But the recession has changed of all that...

Sorry to hear the news Mayday (I wondered if thats what was implied the other day) Its a scary time for alot of people right now. Pictures are great! (where is the globe light at the beginning?) Maybe its time for another book?
  14. edale, fyi the signage discussion started on the Cleveland Hall of Fame Cafe thread and went on for at least 2 pages before this thread was started. So it built up a bit there.

There's a story in the PD today about Pickwick and Frolic on e.4th doing a new murder mystery show that seems to be pretty popular. It looks pretty campy and could be fun... (Oompa Loompa, wondering if your involved, havent heard from you in a while) http://www.cleveland.com/goingout/index.ssf/2009/03/a_show_that_kills_the_bodies_k.html#more
  16. Yes, it was talked about in some thread and they invited everybody here to participate in the "outing". I didnt make it. Looks like they had wonderful things to say about Cleveland! This is the entire Flicker link to the pictures from that weekend: http://www.flickr.com/photos/73416633@N00/sets/72157594292268088/show/
  17. More specifically a district of places that directly play off of the market..... International food stores, culinary stores?... Culinary schools, kitchen supply stores etc... and of course whatever creative concepts that would draw people in.....
  18. Hopefully the Culinary District idea really takes off. We're lucky to have smart guys like Ari Maron in this city. I would hope so too. I know we were pushing it for Ohio City 13 years ago when I was interning at OCNW.
  19. They couldnt figure out how to make it seem negative?
  20. Agree... Anybody I have met that have visited Cleveland said the WSM "blew them away" (and they are always envious), and it really tells Cleveland's story. Anybody I talk to that hasnt been there, I make sure I steer them there. I know they are already doing it somewhat, but it really needs to be part of Cleveland culinary tour weekend package, since Cleveland does actually get visitors as a result of some of the positive press the dining scene has recieved.
  21. Funny (sometimes there are little clues) and its fun trying to guess. Nice work btw.
  22. There was recently a nice little article in a Chicago paper about the West Side Market: http://blogs.chicagoreader.com/food/2009/02/17/eating-elsewhere-ritas-west-side-market-cleveland/ Eating elsewhere: Rita's at the West Side Market, Cleveland by Mike Sula on February 17th 2009 - 12:42 p.m. Tags: Cleveland, Michael Symon, Lola, Lolita, Velvet Tango Room, National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame, Rita's, olives, West Side Market "Made a quick escape to Cleveland this weekend and kept running into natives who were astounded that someone would come from Chicago just for kicks. :x ... On Saturday morning the market was jammed with people. Even in this economy, if a midsize rust-belt city can support a place like that there's no reason Chicago can't. I've said it before: Chicago can never seriously consider itself a world-class food city until it builds a market like this." A nice change of pace, someone from Chicago has a little Cleveland envy!
  23. Well they do list quite a few amenities like granite countertops, stainless steel apps., washer and dryer etc.. Many with gas fireplaces. Most of the units seem pretty spacious. Oh and dont forget Heather Haveiland will have a joint there for coffee and yummy homemade goods!
  24. Meaning to use MTS's photo. You have really become humorous 327. Maybe go back and re-read this stuff from the biginning in the other thread and you'll see that your basically just having an argument with yourself.. Nobody has really disagreed with what you are saying... As far as Luxe goes, that can be.... just a difference in opinion and taste... Its ok if it doesnt appeal to you.
