Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
Bryan2Cbus replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI love going to events at Nationwide. The building is awesome. Itâs not surprising it needs major renovations. Iâve been in my 58 year old home for 20 years and have replaced the roof, repaired siding, new furnace, AC, water heater, repaired plumbing, landscaping⊠should I go on? But itâs a unique home and I love it. Thatâs how I feel about the arena. It has decades of good use in its bones. It looks great and represents the city well (way better than the Schott IMO).

Columbus: Easton Developments and News
Bryan2Cbus replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt make sense to me that Covid affected Easton differently and more drastically than other developers. But if Steiner could complete residential components in West Chester and Dayton, why not a project already started at Easton? I assume financing was in place. The housing need hasnât changed, has it? Was there an opportunity lost to pivot to plans that worked at these other locations? Structurally, can they pick up where they left off in the construction schedule? Or is all that infrastructure exposed to the elements for four years no longer viable?

Columbus: Easton Developments and News
Bryan2Cbus replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThank you for the article, which also states: âWhile Steiner canât stop philosophizing about retail and urban development, he continues to work tirelessly to ensure the future of his own Easton development.â What bothers me is that whatever was planned and started for that quadrant clearly isnât going to come to fruition. So level it and return it to green space until you develop a new plan.

Columbus: Easton Developments and News
Bryan2Cbus replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI love Easton and what it brings to our city. As a nearby resident, I visit and spend money in the area regularly. I believe Eastonâs potential continues to be phenomenal. But I am just totally embarrassed with the dirt mounds and concrete pillars that have dominated the Morse/Stelzer area for four years now. if I were a business in the new district, Iâd be really upset at what was expected to be developed instead became an undeveloped eyesore. Can anything be done? Or is this just what we should expect from the developers now, an incomplete product? Itâs like a beautiful million dollar home with no baseboards installed in the entryway. Guests will love the house, but never quite get over the incompleteness and ugliness of that entry.

Powell / Lewis Center: Developments and News
Well, I believe the Riverside golf course in Stryker (NW Ohio) did close down in 2022. Itâs beautiful land and could be ripe for development đ. Different board though, I guess.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Pretty cool. Canât wait to see it up close on the 24th (go Crew). I do hope plans include big planters or some type of green space between the garage and office building.

Columbus: Random Development and News
Bryan2Cbus replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIs it a worry that the TMUD program could actually stifle larger developments? The article includes this: Thirty seven percent of winners in the second and third round were projects that had previously applied. Assembly had also applied twice before. "It's not the end if you didn't win," Magill said. "Developers should stay resilient and apply again." With millions of dollars at stake, could developers that might otherwise have the financing choose to slow-ball the process until theyâve exhausted their options with TMUD? Or am I just missing something here?

Columbus: Random Development and News
Bryan2Cbus replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHopefully this is the correct thread for this story. Thereâs a lot of discussion here about parking requirements and this NPR story details how Austin TX and other cities are eliminating parking minimums. From Austin to Anchorage, U.S. cities opt to ditch their off-street parking minimums The city council in Austin, Texas recently proposed something that could seem like political Kryptonite: getting rid of parking minimums. Those are the rules that dictate how much off-street parking developers must provide â as in, a certain number of spaces for every apartment and business. Around the country, cities are throwing out their own parking requirements â hoping to end up with less parking, more affordable housing, better transit, and walkable neighborhoods⊠⊠One 2017 study found that including garage parking increased the rent of a housing unit by about 17 percent. The real problem, says Jordan, is what doesn't get built: "The housing that could have gone in that space or the housing that wasn't built because the developer couldn't put enough parking. ... So we just lose housing in exchange for having convenient places to store cars." ⊠Austin removed parking requirements for its downtown area a decade ago, "and the market has still provided plenty of parking in the vast majority of the projects since then," says Qadri. A new survey from Pew Charitable Trusts found that 62% of Americans support property owners and builders to make decisions about the number of off-street parking spaces, instead of local governments. Licking County: Developments and News
Bryan2Cbus replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHello UrbanOhio! Iâve enjoyed reading posts for several years now, and this is my first. Having lived in rural and urban Ohio for all 58 of my years, I love our state, our cities, towns, and our great people. The passion and interest displayed here is awesome and informative. Initially, I was turned off by the recent discussions on this thread. I was thinking âenough already!â But I must admit I love the passion of cbussoccer and jonoh81 and agree the discussion is valid. If this debate continues, Iâd be interested in viewing citations. Itâs sometimes difficult to see through my own biases when reading content presented as facts that goes against my own experiences, logic, or perceptions. And Iâd love to read more about it. My thanks to all posters on all threads in the Central and Southeastern Ohio forum. Itâs really cool to see how many others share the excitement happening in our little corner of the world.
