  1. someone rich…. like maybe Dan Gilbert/ Bedrock? I hate to lose more of our industrial culture with seemingly no plan.
  2. Maybe a little of topic, but I rode my bike through OC today and was just amazed by all the new housing. The neighborhood is not new to me (I used to work over there) but the way the new architecture fit in really well (for the most part) with these beautiful victorian mansions and old storefronts. It’s truly just such a special and charming place in Cleveland. Definitely more “high end” than anywhere else outside of University Circle, which I know is controversial, but it really is beautiful. Housing prices are at all time highs as more and more people want to live there and adjacent. It’s even more crazy how there’s still many untapped gems and vacant land nearby this area that can further lead to Cleveland’s revitalization!
  3. Watterson Lake is an extremely ambitious project that would be one of the best LIHTC projects we’ve seen in awhile if built. Unfortunately they had to juggle neighbors, councilpeople, and city board expectations which all differed greatly and put even more strain on the project.
  4. instead of large apt block buildings i wish this was more the model for the peninsula — the cul de sac development in tempe, az — have a tour: This would be awesome. I really wonder how they financed the project, given that banks love their parking. Unfortunately SP doesn’t have any transit options (although the W 25 redline station is close) so it’s a walk bike or drive situation.
  5. I feel like long term the best thing for Shaker Square is to be controlled by the community, either owned by BBC or CNP in some form. I have to give credit to the work they’ve done there since taking over. My fear with a private owner is the situation it was in before the purchase.
  6. I’ll give this a 1/100000th shot of happening
  7. Omg, about time!
  8. It was actually approved schematically on May 2nd…
  9. Is 3614 Euclid (former hotel) project still dormant? Creepy looking building to have vacant, really kinda a blight to the corridor.
  10. Reviving this thread after a while… the old Newton D Baker site is closing as part of CMSD’s school closures. That’s a pretty big parcel that could be redeveloped in the heart of the Kamms neighborhood where houses are selling from 250-350k. Combine that with the vacant Ken Ganley Dealership on Lorain and you’re looking at close to 9 acres. That’s a real opportunity to add new housing and amenities in Kamms.
  11. @KJP no more updates on the Fairview Hospital project?
  12. This might be the biggest win in a long time, in terms of design and value-add to the area, if it is built.
  13. There’s so many vacant lots in the city. Why…
  14. What in the world is that?
  15. I mean, in a city as poor as Cleveland I guess deferred maintenance catches up with you. If we have to chose whether to keep an obsolete bridge (admittedly very cool) or our actual bridges functioning, i’d choose the latter.
  16. Is that shot inclusive of the former eagle avenue bridge? Which I am guessing is no longer standing at this point? You have to think the timing of the Cavs facility means they may have had something to do with that amazing structure coming down, which was a sad remnant of Cleveland’s industrial past. Spent a lot of time up on the bridge in the past, it had some of the best views in the city…
  17. Also like, surely you are familiar with the character of the street… these as proposed fit in perfectly. It’s everything they should want and it’s STILL not enough for them.
  18. These are absolutely appropriate given they’re right next to a main road and stand between the single/two family homes. I wish somebody would tell the commission to stop dragging your feet on everything!
  19. So Row on Garden gets tabled again by Landmarks for an entirely appropriate 18 unit multifamily building, because they aren’t comfortable with introducing the “use” here to this residential neighborhood. It was previously six for sale townhouse units. But on the case prior (the Ohio City drive thru) the commission said they can’t weigh in on the use, just the adaptive re-use of the historic building. Make it make sense.
  20. Unfortunately this isn’t how the city looks at these types of situations…
  21. And jeopardizes safety of local community with inappropriate use for a historic district.
  22. Landmarks Commission logic- Five story new building with mixed use retail (a historic cleveland type of development) = NO GOOD. Historic building being restored to be used as a drive thru, which is not in keeping with its historic use or even exterior openings = ALL GOOD. Make it make sense.
  23. Because of the noise thing the only thing that can be built there is really industrial and heavy commercial uses.
  24. I believe it’s already done by census tract, which is about the most granular you can get at this point.
  25. Nice Article Ken. I’m skeptical about this working on paper and getting off the ground. Not exactly a desirable location with it fronting I-90.
