That's not a real incident is it? If so, wouldn't the front of the train instantly start heading downward to the ground after there was no more track beneath it instead of magically continuing on top of air and straight forward? (And, like @Enginerd, I also don't get the reference to Harbor Bay.)

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
^I hadn't heard about the trolley idea connecting the various nodes, but that's a very cool idea. But it should connect with the Rapid at either Mayfield-Little Italy or Cedar/CWRU station--then it would be really meaningful--otherwise its just an insulated little Cleveland hts thing and not part of the greater city. (I assume "trolley" would mean rail, right?)

More local Whiskey: "Celebrity chef Michael Symon has announced the formation of River Roots Barrel Company, a Cleveland-based venture geared to whiskey enthusiasts like himself. Along with partners Michael Boland and Ryan Lintz, Symon will extend the rare privilege of tasting and selecting single-barrel whiskies to casual consumers.... ...First up for the company will be a 140-proof, 13-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon that was aged for six years in port wine barrels and a cask strength 5-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon..." https://www.clevescene.com/food-drink/michael-symon-and-partners-launch-river-roots-barrel-co-42787559

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Aren't there supposed to be penalties ($xx,000 per day late in delivering the project, as well as incentives for finishing before the deadline)? Or did the state not give a crap and bother to impose it cause its a Cleveland project and they couldn't care less?

^Great article. There's only ONE project in Downtown Cleveland and its only asking for $2M? ("Playhouse Square; Cleveland; Playhouse Square Foundation; 1307-1317 Euclid Avenue, 1365-1375 Euclid Avenue, 1407-1501 Euclid Avenue; $1,950,000.") And suburban thing in CLE Hts is asking for $15M? Where's Bridgeworks, Lumen 2, 2nd Circle Square tower, or ANYTHING big in Downtown/University Circle? That list is very disappointing. Cleveland pays so much into that fund and the money is all going to go to Columbus/Cinci???? I'm pretty angry.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Women are increasingly working in the NFL and the highest ranking woman is in Cleveland! "Raîche, now the Cleveland Browns assistant general manager and vice president of football operations, is part of an influx of women who have permeated pro football in a relatively short span, taking on the kinds of inside-the-game but outside-an-office roles that had been reserved for men...." https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/24/sports/football/nfl-women-assistant-coach-scouts.html

The neighbors are idiots. (Can I say that here? 😄). I love this project. This project would so SO GOOD for that corner and part of Ohio City. I hope such people aren't successful in preventing growth and development for their selfish purposes.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I agree. I wouldn't say Bibb is a failure yet either - its too early to make any kind of general judgement even though he is clearly failing on the crime front and his failed attempt (luckily blocked by City Council) to move $400M out of the police budget to spend on other things rather than spend it on policing shows very poor leadership. My point was that Jackson wasn't a great leader either--and though he had 16 years--he at least got some stuff done and moving as @Whipjacka listed above; Jackson certainly wasn't a failure. We'll see how Bibb fares over his next few years. But I still think Larkin's article was on point--that our current leaders lack great leadership skill and vision. Not just Bibb--but all the civic non-profits as well.

Isn't there a Cleveland Clinic presence in the BP Building on Euclid at street level? At least, there used to be. Maybe Covid (ironically) killed it.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Independence doesn't care about tree canopy. They'd much prefer to have soul-less short office and other buildings in office parks. They also probably thought they'd have the Cavs forever--so it wasn't a short-term play. (Just like Richfield thought they had the Cavs during the Coliseum days before the move to Gund Arena.)

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
When the Cavs first moved to Independence in 2007 or so, a tax sharing agreement was done between CLE and Independence for tax revenue during training. Now that the Cavs are RIGHTFULLY moving back Downtown, will that sharing agreement still be in place? I hope not. Independence should have no right to take Cleveland's money.

^The downvote I just got for my comment above--made me think. That's a big part of it---our own denial of where we really stand and our own impediments to progress. If we don't like the truths about what is holding us back, we can't fix things and eventually get better.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Does the jail and the court rooms have to be in the same building/complex? I thought they came together as a package. If so, we wouldn't want jail cells at 925 Euclid!

That place looks great. Menu is very expensive! Were they that expensive when they were in the Colonial Arcade? I remember it being much cheaper. Higher rent and inflation, I know, but its still pretty expensive. Was it worth it?

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Why a Mayfield and Euclid? Diagonal intersections are far more interesting than your run of the mill 90-degree angle intersections. We have very few left in the city. Its so sad to see the "dumbing down" of the street system.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I think the article is right on target. We don't have the civic leadership that we need--whether in city hall (the only difference between Jackson and Bibb is that Bibb is younger) or from the other organizations like the Greater Cleveland Partnership. Larkin is right on target unfortunately.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
That's a really cool site--I spent a long time reading the various pages. The "Master Plan" page is particularly interesting ( https://www.centerforcleveland.org/master-plans ) with all the different master plans by the different organizations. I can't believe we haven't had a city-wide master plan done since 2007! The 2007 plan is completely out of date.

Ontario there is like a giant highway. There used to be an island within the southbound lanes of Ontario with a Shell Gas Station just north of Carnegie. That was so much better--and useful--than the situation we have now.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
This is great, bringing Oberlin College more into the mix of Cleveland. In addition to Oberlin College-provided transit services to Hopkins Airport, on weekends, for students, there will now be direct services to Crocker Park, Lakewood, Ohio City, and University Circle. Of course, the service to Hopkins allowed connections to the RTA Red Line to Ohio City, Downtown, and University Circle, but having this new option (plus routings to Ohio City and Crocker Park) makes it even better, with more choices. Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Huh. Cleveland.com seems to be implying that Bibb had the economic development director fired because she did a little too much prying into someone that Bibb may have been connected to. I took some journalism classes in college and its clear how careful cleveland.com is treading from the relationship of Bibb and Hartnett (only saying Bibb was a "patron" of Harness Cycle), saying, "Today, the Vitrolite building is opening a window into how Cleveland’s Economic Development Department operates – or fails to – in the era of Mayor Justin Bibb." and "In the wake of internal audit’s memo, Jackson sent a June 12 letter that, among other things, demanded full repayment of the city loan. Mayor Justin Bibb fired Jackson three days later, without explanation." Do you think cleveland.com is correct in what they're implying? And also, why isn't the county cooperating? They may have paid for the same invalid invoices that the city paid for. It sounds like Hartnett was really trying to pull one over on the city many times and sounds like only Jackson--who was fired--was the only one who had a sense that something fishy was going on. But her firing buts anyone else on warning not to dig deeper.
