Cleveland: St. Clair-Superior (non-Asiatown): Development and News
You can't eliminate all on-street parking. Any businesses and even residential are going to need to receive deliveries, and UPS, FedEx, Amazon and Door Dash don't park in back alleys, they park in front of the address with their flashers on. If there is no parking spot, they park in the bus lane, in driveways, on the sidewalk, or wherever they can. Euclid Ave. in midday is a good example.

Photos taken yesterday: Marquee Meadowbrook side -- is steel only for the retail spaces at right? (Seen from parking garage; Tullamore Road in foreground, Lee Rd. at right intersects Meadowbrook in rear center.) Marquee Cedar side, with second elevator shaft nearing completion. (From parking garage; Cedar Road in left background with Heights High School across the street.) Wood is up at Oak Tree Veterinary Hospital on Taylor at Desota. They are restoring the fallen brick veneer on the Dollar General (former Cleveland Typewriter) at Lee and East Overlook. With the sign still there, I guess the store will reopen in this location.

Council on Monday gave the Noble Station developers a 6-month extension on their purchase option for the land. Paul Volpe said they will cut the number of apartments from 52 to 45 and use the free space for amenities. Neighbors spoke against the development, at least one noting the empty or near-empty nearby buildings noted above in this thread. Nice long story here by Thomas Jewell. https://www.cleveland.com/community/2023/11/cleveland-heights-council-grants-developers-a-6-month-extension-for-second-chance-on-noble-station.html

Marquee Cedar side today. Southeast wing footers being poured at right, while an elevator shaft rises at upper left. Marquee Meadowbrook side today. Concrete floor has been poured at Tullamore wing in foreground; conveyor at left is backfilling behind the retaining wall. I wonder how the folks in the house next door at far left feel about this. Noble Library addition today. The roof deck is on, and some brickwork has been done on the lower Noble face. Also, work is being done at the Dollar General building at Lee and East Overlook where the brick facade fell off. I'm not sure if this is just removing more unstable brick veneer, or if repairs have begun.

I was going to ask which corner, but it seems both corner buildings are oddly vacant, or almost so. The northwest corner, 2360 Noble, was purchased in January 2022 by a New Jersey company, according to the fiscal officer's site. They have also bought similar Noble properties at the corners of Elbon, Yellowstone and Orchard. Those buildings seem to have a few tenants, at least. But the Quilliams one was totally dark last night at 7 pm, not even the hallway or security lights were on, so probably no power. On the northeast corner, the two-building Quilliams-Noble complex at 2481-87 Noble also seems to have only a few tenants; most windows were dark last night and only four cars in the parking lot. A different Brooklyn, N.Y. company bought that one a couple of years ago.

Marquee Cedar side today Marquee Tullamore/Meadowbrook side today. Taken from the third level of the parking garage Also, the Cedarbrook steps are open again, with a path made through the construction site so people can walk from the parking garage via the steps to the theater, Boss Dog, and other Lee Road locations. The new steps seem to be of a similar design to old ones.

The Noble Station developers are having a community meeting Monday. From Noble Neighbors: Start Right CDC Community Conversation - Oct 23, 7:30pm The developer of the Noble Station project, TWG, has received the funding it sought for Noble Station. Start Right CDC wants to hear from you more about how you regard the project and what you'd prefer for development in the Noble-Nela district. Rev. Jimmie Hicks (with TWG) writes: "One common theme we've heard from many of you is that you felt excluded in the previous development project. To address this, TWG, in collaboration with Start Right CDC, our nonprofit partner, is taking steps to rectify this issue. We will be hosting neighborhood meetings starting on Monday, October 23, at 7:30 PM at Start Right Church. 977 Caledonia, Cleveland Heights 44112. These meetings will provide you with a platform to express your ideas and concerns. We will seek your approval before proceeding with the necessary city approvals, making sure that the neighborhood is actively involved in the decision-making process." Do take advantage of this opportunity for conversation

Does anyone know what's happening with the Dollar General building on Lee Road, where the brick veneer fell off a few months ago? The former home of Cleveland Typewriter appears to be owned by a New York company.

The Marquee at Cedar Lee is going vertical. Retaining walls at Tullamore have been up for a week, and the elevator shaft scaffold went up there last Thursday. Footers are being poured on the Cedar side, where the Cedarbrook steps by Boss Dog's patio have been removed for reconstruction.

They are pouring footers today at the Meadowbrook end of the Marquee at Cedar-Lee. (I have photos from the parking garage, but how do you post them here?) Also, three houses were demolished this month on Taylor between Desota and Altamont. Is the Oak Tree veterinary, next door, expanding?
