Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
While the "right-of-way acquisition" language may or may not apply to the streetcar, it's the kind of language that would gain the property rights vote. It may be in there just to help gain votes.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
David Brooks comes out against sprawl? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/09/opinion/09brooks.html?em Interesting thoughts about the stimulus plans: will they cement old patterns, or create new ones?

Cincinnati Public Schools: Development and News
U.S. News has their new "Best High Schools" report out. http://www.usnews.com/blogs/college-rankings-blog/2008/12/05/the-new-high-school-rankings-are-here.html For Hamilton County: Anderson High School , Silver Clark Montessori High School , Bronze Indian Hill High School , Silver Lockland High School , Bronze Madeira High School , Silver Mariemont High School , Silver Sycamore High School , Silver Turpin High School , Silver Walnut Hills High School , Gold:#36 of 100 Wyoming High School , Gold:#50 of 100 For Warren County: William Mason High School, Silver For Northern Ky: Highlands High School, Silver Beechwood High School, Silver Walton-Verona High School, Bronze There's also several articles on Walnut Hills: one (not all that interesting) about the college application process: http://www.usnews.com/features/education/best-colleges/student-center.html and another about funding from alumni/parent foundations: http://www.usnews.com/articles/education/high-schools/2008/12/04/the-ohio-school-with-a-strong-foundation.html I'm troubled my the extend of these supplemental funding organizations. It so often better funds the educations of kids who have wealthier parents, or live in wealthier neighborhoods. Not exactly the American Ideal. I have, however, donated to this foundation.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
^ Similar experience in Salt Lake City: the first couple of light rail/car accidents were big news on TV, always ending in stating that the car was at fault, when a truck/car or car/car accident would get little notice. It seemed as the public came to love light rail the stories stopped.

USA: What Caused Our Economic Crisis?
This "low income people who couldn't afford the mortgages they were given" story overlooks a lot of the housing problem, and completely ignores the economic problem. A recent PBS news story on Slavic Village in Cleveland mentioned that a third of the foreclosures were on rental units, and I would think most of these were investors, not low income families. There's also been mentions (but no hard numbers that I can find: anybody else have a source?) that a large number of the foreclosed loans were refinances and home equity loans; again not first time buyers. As far as "What Caused Our Economic Crisis?" How about importing more then we export and consuming more then we produce for about 30 years. Maybe we've reached Peak Credit.

Large and wealthy cities...not in Ohio
For the most part federal employees can't afford Arlington or Alexandria. These high incomes in the DC area are mostly contractors, lobbyists, etc. all feeding at the public trough.

Cincinnati Canal Discussion
Central Pkwy offers one of the few vistas downtown. Distinctive buildings at either the east or west end could be dramatic. Much like the Capitol and White House at either end of Pennsylvanna Ave. (well, before that idiot from Tennessee build the treasury building blocking the view!)

City or Suburb
Spent my early years in Golf Manor (suburb, I guess), then we moved to Walnut Hills (city), a few years in Clifton after college, short stop in Detroit near Clark Park (city), most of my adult life in Alexandria, Va. both Old Town (city) and the King & Quaker area (no driveway, so I'll say city.) Ended up in a small city in Utah (Ogden) to be close to skiing. My current yard and driveway are my first since Jr. High. What was I thinking? Oh, that's right, I wasn't.

Over-the-Rhine Housing Towers Question
The two towers you see from I-75 are probably the Stanley Rowe Towers in the West End, not OTR. They're owned by the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority, and I believe are for senior citizens.

Who's NOT to blame for $4 gas
Only if they sold all of it to "us." What if foreigners offered more? BTW, while there haven't been any new refineries built in years, many existing refineries have been expanded. Capacity has increased.
