  4. Better to be asked "What high school did you go to?", then "What's your exit?"

Seicer, There are plans for three expansions: two 5 mile or so long spurs off of the existing north/south line, one to West Valley City (western suburb) and one to West Jordan (southwestern suburb). And, the 6 mile long airport line which is undergoing re-evaluation of its route. This airport line thru the west side of the city offers the most promise of good development, the other two seem to be more "commuterish". There was funding issue passed last November for these (or maybe it was for the commuter rail(?).) Can't remember exactly.

No I don't know you, nor did I call you a bigot. I do know what you said, and it was, as I pointed out, a bigoted statement. And if you didn't mean anything by "you people", why did you say it? I'll assume "you people" means those of us born and raised in Golf Manor!

Nice to see DAVID and X keeping the bigotry alive and well in Urban Ohio!

Cincy1, I think the next TRAX lines will be going to the west valley suburbs (who fought tooth and nail against it back when the Olympics put us at the top of the list for federal money.) Now that it's so successfully, they're clamoring for more lines out their way. Hopefully, a successful streetcars system in Cincy will convince suburbanites to finally support light rail there.

Other then the reconstruction of I-15 and the construction of the light rail, I don't think the Olympics had that much effect on any overhaul of dowtown. I think it seems pretty much as it was before. I'm glad the Gateway was crowded; maybe they'll stop asking for more concessions from the city because they don't have enough customers!

For those not literate enough to actually read the damn article, Cincy rated: 3 - booksellers 29.5 - educational attainment 15 - internet 5 - libraries 8 - periodicals published 12.5 - newpaper circulation So it looks like we read alot, but don't learn anything! Actually, there's some problems with their methodology: i.e. Plano, Texas doesn't have any newspapers, so they're ranked last in that category, even though many of them might read the Dallas papers.

  14. As I Golf Manor native, I found the mix of local/regional services to be quite effective. Where there were economies of scale (school system, water and sewer, etc.) go with the larger system; where local control is more responsive (parks and police) do it yourself. There was even a deal with Cincinnati to consider us city residents for UC when it was a municipal university; quite a savings over other suburbs. Bit of a hassle as a teenager when all the cops knew who you were though!
  15. This sounds nice technologically; I just wonder about the sociological effects. UTA Putting Bus Riders Online September 29th, 2006 @ 9:53pm Ed Yeates Reporting Connecting with your bus is about to take on a whole new meaning. The Utah Transit Authority has launched a pilot project to see how business commuters like having wireless access to the internet while they ride to and from work. A UTA express bus is about to let Troy Fillerup clock in, on the job, the minute he steps on board. He sits down, opens his lap top, and connects to the internet. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=528477

Interesting guest editorial in today's Enquirer entitled "Here's good news about population loss:" http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060823/EDIT02/608230317/1090 It reiterates some of the "good" points made in this thread.
  17. Wow. Don't think I've been there in 20 years! No pics to post right now. Want to go again?
  18. Pleasant Ridge Chile?
  19. Nice article. It got me thinking about I-15 running thru Salt Lake City. In preparation for the 2002 Olympics, the whole thing was rebuilt, and an HOV lane was added. Just recently, the HOV lane was opened up for use by permit holders. I’ll have to check what they’re charging for the permits to see if we are subsidizing “Lexus Lanes” here in Utah.
  20. Looks like Ikea is comming to West Chester. The original Enquirer article said "Swiss furniture retailer Ikea." Must be why those stores are all blue and yellow: Swiss flag colors! They seem to have caught their mistake and updated the on-line edition to "Swedish."
  21. At the far right of the photo, just across Linn St from Washburn school, you'd see Laurel Homes, if it was after 1938. So my guess is it's between 1933 & 1938.
