PDT is the architect, not sure about the engineers, but True Wall is the builder.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
When I first moved here all the blogs were negative also. Over the fast year a whole new batch of positive bloggers have popped up. Cincinnati has so much going for it. I'm trying to enjoy it for all its worth before it becomes cool and hip and then we'll all be complaining about how it used to be, back in the early 21th century when it was affordable to live downtown and you didn't have to wait in lines for your favorite restaraunt. Lets all enjoy it and live in the moment while we can.

Can the Enquirer sink any lower. they would be better off pulling quotes off this forum. At least it would be intelligent.

The Banks will do nothing to make us “a destination.” Nobody travels to a city because it has an Applebee’s in a new storefront. Tourism is driven by the things that make cities culturally, architecturally, and historically unique. Tourism is driven by what sets you apart, not what makes you like every suburb in America. AMEN! But if they are doing this for Tourism, we're already screwed. It should be built for us. And the Banks will not compete with OTR but it will with the 'bubs and Ovation. The Banks and streetcar will absolutely help improve OTR.

Cities get the shaft because of years of media washing the suburbs. One issue that frustrates me the most is that everyone wants to move farther and farther out, but then complain about gas prices. If commuters had to shoulder the true cost of their commutes they would live much closer to where they work. Instead even people like me who ride the bus must subsidize their long commutes.

We all hate pork. Except when its our pork. I was just making the case that for once Bush wasn't evil vetoing a pork-filled bill. On the subject of mass transit Megabus to Chicago kicks ass!

My worst fear is the developers will be too conservative on this project. More than anything the Banks needs "places" not destinations. Those will create themselves. As for Wanda, they all said the new Square would be a waste of money and a failure, no one would use it and look how that turned out. The veto, kind of funny all the Democrats were elected to eliminate spending, specificly earmarks and provide transparency. And over riding the veto showed they were more than willing to trapple those promises. Even though it does help Cincinnati. Sorry for getting political, but in addition to the few good things listed the bill also includes, more money for one of Representative Don Young's (R–AK) infamous Bridges to Nowhere (Section 4005). a costly commitment to periodic nourishment of sand beaches, Authorization of $5,300,000 for the construction of Lake Lanier Olympic Center in Georgia (Section 5061); spending proposals targeted to wastewater and drinking water infrastructure projects—that are a state and local responsibility Didn't want Bush to look like the total bad guy, he didn't write this crappy bill.

I proposed this back in March and it's time to revist it. A huge flying pig in geosynchronous stationary orbit directly obove the Banks, thats the future.

Why make it look old? The new Rec center at UC has been winning awards all over the world. I'm not saying I want it on the Banks, but lets see what contemporary designs they can come up with. I just don't want it to look like Easton Place or any one of those other "lifestyle" places. Lets make it contemporary and let it age and in a few years it will be distinctly Cincinnati.

You know, this is why I have a low opinion of cincinnati.com and a select group of people who live here. Open your eyes and look around, think for yourself. For example; Have you looked around Cincinnati Thomas? Lets see there's half the buildings at UC, Scripp's, Chiquita, Federated, Converges, the old Cincy Bell Building, oh yeah and you may have heard of this tiny little neighborhood called OTR!

It would be nice if somehow they could accommodate something with a local flavor, Christian Moerlein Brew House? Would a thousand people front a $100 each to do that and own a tiny peice? It would be cool to find out.

I didnt take it that Clara was knocking 7th because its pretty cool. It sounded to me like she didn't want 7th to turn into last seasons outfit. You know, everyone keeps beating the drum for it not being expensive. Guess what, any new construction is going to be more expensive. Hey if the streetcar was in place I would totaly jump on 12th and Vine right now becasue you can get in for under 150k, BUT you can't see the river. I'm thinking a river view in an apartment has to be worth 500 or so a month, just because everyone will want it.

Lesser downtown on 7th St.? Hmm, guess you'll have to move won't you? Ms. Rice's digs at the Shillito aren't exactly ghetto. I don't know what she pays but there are units in the $1200 - 1700 range at the Shillito. Throw in a view of the river and whats that worth?
-
Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I agree, there is no way they are competing with each other. The businesses needing class A office space will never in a million years move to OTR. BUT once the street car is built they will complement each other greatly and I think the Banks will help OTR develop.

ohio1221, so do all these guys have an official position and what have they laid out as the solution? The "we were here first" stand seems immature. I would like to hear what they feel is the best solution to the issue that could get the Banks moving in the quickest amount of time. Except for Keating & Co, the others are all financial and real estate firms, they should be able to put something together. Or is it as I suspect that they want the Banks(and the rest of the CBD it seems) to stay exactly as they are.
-
Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Like I said, everyone who's view is threatened, pony up to the table and be part of the solution. Build your own building or invest some money so they don't block the view. And no one has said they will build something that big, they just want the option. And Nique Swan, the reason the plan changed is doesn't make economic sense to build what was planned in 2000. Thats why nothing has happened, they needed to go bigger to justify the investment. The more private investment the less the public has to pony up.

Lets not get off track and lawyer bash, they have crushing student loans to pay off so show some compassion. meanwhile during the lawsuit we can walk down and admire the big mudhole.
-
Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Wait a minute, how can they file a lawsuit on the taxpayers behalf if we all want the Banks built? They should have to get it on a ballot and let us vote on it before suing for us. Lets file a lawsuit on the taxpayers behalf suing Keating Muething & Klekamp, American Financial Group Inc., Mayerson Co. and Western & Southern Financial Group for holding all this up and for also being d!@kheads.

How's this, when our condo @Parker Flats is done, we'll swap homes for a week. You can try out downtown living and we can try out the Bermuda thing.
-
Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Damn, you're in Bermuda, how do I get a gig like that?

BUT...not every building is going to be 24 stories, and obviously the area over the Freedon Center will have sight lines, so I think the question of height is a deversion by the opposition. If they are so worried about it, they should front some money to make sure it doesn't happen by constructing their own buildings. The arguement about gutting CBD is valid because businesses are hungry for class A office space. Look how fast the Queen City Sqquare building filled. But the fact is those tenants will move one way or the other. Will they go to the Banks? Covington? to Mason? Thats the question.

no but the 4x4s they have are doing a good job LOL

Neville, I agree that you learn much more from people that disagree with you. It would be refreshing to hear some valid concerns besides downtown is dead and no-one is coming back. most of the arguements I hear are the same ones they used for Fountain Square.
