Cincinnati: Historic Photos
Don't apologize for the quality of the pictures, I like the old pictures that look old. The Main St picture in particular of Fort washington Hotel is incredible. Its funny, I've only lived in Cincinnati for 4 years now and I'm already getting possessive, its not the suspension bridge its the "Roebling". LOL. I've really taken to that bridge for some reason.

Cincinnati: Downtown - McFarland Lofts
Yeah but when you're sitting at the pool, the only thing you see in the Shillito windows are reflections. At least thats all I see floating in the pool with my cocktail and cigar. Boy that pool is going to feel nice tonight, I should have called in sick.

I was thinking the same thing, now I have to splash out for expensive window coverings.

Cincinnati: Downtown - McFarland Lofts
What I was wondering when I looked at it Sunday morning is the location. It has absolutely no views. Its totally blocked from Plum St, the West facing units will have some views to the south west but I doubt they'll see much. Just seems like a weird building to rehab, I think thats why the low prices. They'll have to have incredible interiors to sell these I think.

I hate the term "soap box distrcit" can we kill that now? As for the parking lot between Parker Flats and that building, the Parker Flats drawings show a two level parking lot there. I think they are planning a level of public parking and a level for tenents of MEDs other projects. But hey I'm all for the greenspace idea since my unit is going to overlook it. I would much rather look at trees than a bunch of cars.

Cincinnati: Downtown - Tri-State Building Condo Conversion
I think the problem with Class C space comes down to something as simple as technology. If you need a computer do you want to duck tape cabling to the walls or run it through conduit in modern purpose built offices? Thats why Queen city is almost filled already.

Sunday Drive 29 July 2007
Look at all the people in the picture! Are they living there or just existing in their homes? E Rocc, I guess I was just making a statement about following the herd. Its funny the people in my office that complain about life the most all live outside the 275 loop. They all act like they have some divine right to be able to drive thier kids all over the country every night without traffic in thier way. Meanwhile, I hop off my 8 minute bus ride home all relaxed and try to decide which bar/restaurant/entertainment venue to walk to tonight.

I'm in #208. The southeast corner on Mcfarland. This is my deck. You guys coming to the condo warming in Feb/March? I know they say January but at one floor a month theres no way we'll be in there by then.

No panhandlers or anybody that doesn't look exactly like you. Conformism as tyranny! Yeah everyone who acts like me! And you can recognize all your neighbors safely from inside a giant SUV, safe from any kind of human contact.

Cincinnati: Downtown - Parker Flats
I can't wait until they get the third floor poured and take the forms off. My unit is the southwest corner second floor on McFarland. Once they take the forms off I'll have a pretty good idea about what its going to look like. http://parkerflats.info

Cincinnati: Downtown - Parker Flats
You know, now that I think of it, in the media, The Downtowner for instance they will refer to what I call downtown as the Central Business District. This is normally what I consider downtown. But is there something official that says what downtown is or is downtown what the majority of people think it is? Oh, I see Altas answered this as I was posting.

I think the problem is investment, its not worth the time to do a building here and there. We need a 3CDC type organization or a private group to come in and do 3 or 4 blocks at once. If the banks ever happen maybe 4th will pick up some over flow and then it will be more attractive to business owners. I think it needs a champion to come in and really make noise, like the Bang guys did for oh about 5 minutes but keep it up until something materializes.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: School for the Creative & Performing Arts
I disagree, the whole comunity is victimized by people who think its acceptable to drink and do drugs in public.

Can I ask a really dumb question? Why is it so important that the Drop In Center stay in OTR? Maybe this is obvious to long time Cincinnatians, but I've only been here a few years. This whole arguement makes no sense to me. Don't the people with more reasources always displace the people with less? It may be ugly but I don't get this. The Last Don, did you call the police? There was a couple week period last summer where groups of young guys were roaming the CBD smoking pot. I called the police everytime and it eventually stopped. Did I have anything to do with it? I doubt it but I'd like to think maybe I did.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I guess my last post was a poorly constructed. My favorite affordable condo was that corner unit in the Duncanson Lofts, but I guess I’m in the minority liking the Gateway Condos Connected to the Kroger Garage. My wife doesn’t really care for them either but for some reason I really like them. The unit on this years tour wasn’t my favorite, but last spring during the OTR construction tour the unit they had the open house in was larger and had more natural light.

I don't know, personally I liked the Gateway Condos. During the tour my favorite condo was a second floor walkup at the corner of 12th and Vine that had two bay windows. It was small, a loft but it was "only" 135k. After seeing CBT condo prices that seems like small change. http://www.gatewayquarter.com/DUNC_FloorPlan.html

My wife and I were down at 12th and Vine a couple Saturdays mornings ago to check out Park+Vine. We just couldn't get over the energy in the area. When they put the street car in, The Q (I saw someone else call the Gateway Quarter this, sounds good) will be off the charts. We're more adventurous than average I think but two years ago theres no way we'd be walking around there.

Cincinnati: Downtown - Parker Flats
parkerflats.info is a year old now. Hard to believe its been a year since I started this blog. It began as a way to release some frustration and mess around with blogs and some ideas I had. And it cost me a whole $1.99 from godaddy. I pulled a picture from ever month that one was posted, just to get an idea of the progress. They are telling us January '08 as a move in date. Here's the latest picture.

The two lowest levels of parking will be for residents, the parking level even with 4th St. will be public. Then the living space begins on the 2nd floor 4th St side. We should be 3 or 4 floors above Mcfarland Alley.

By the end of the week, construction will be back up to street level.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
Actually most of the people buying those condos are most likely like me, not even from Cincinnati. People who can see what a truly awesome place this is. I'll throw out an invite when I have the condo warming party at Parker Flats.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
NBow37, you hit the nail on the head, if a business in Mason wants to sell itself to the world, it can't sell Mason, it has to sell Fountain Square and downtown. I read a study, I'm going to have to find it again that said $100 invested in a suburb returned them $100. But the same $100 invested downtown returned $120 to all the surrounding suburbs. People hate pork, except when its our pork.

I agree with UncleRando 100%. Cincinnati has the pieces almost in place, now lets start doing things for people who live here; parks, street cars, bike paths and public art. Once more of these things are in finished I think people will be flocking here to live and work, never mind visit. Oh and this was tongue in cheek but would actually be a good place for my flying pig in geosynchronous stationary orbit.
