  1. I may be misremembering, but does anyone know if there is a way to look-up building permits? Currently trying to see if there are any demolition/construction permits for South Gordon Park that would prevent folks from using the fields.
  2. Personally, I would prefer they develop the proposed site south of the Innerbelt. We could get a new Rapid station served by all three lines that could also better serve Progressive Field and RoMoFiHo, more pedestrian infrastructure, and the biggest of all: expanding Downtown south of the Innerbelt. Opening Downtown up to develop the no-man's-land towards the post office is a huge opportunity for the city. With another Rapid stop, a nice little stadium village or other development could pop up and eventually connect to the Tri-C area if the post office is relocated. Maybe wishful thinking though. I think if they used the old Browns stadium it wouldn't be bad, but it would feel like the team and fans are staying in someone else's house. Not to mention how much it would cost to repair and maintain that death trap. Ugh, I just want a Downtown Waterfront Loop. That would make everything so much easier.

Took this a few months ago! Probably the coolest pic I've taken
  4. This would have been such a quality of life improvement for me when I was there. Really happy that the engineering students and all of the other kids that live in the neighborhood behind Engineering are going to be able to able to get around much safer! I was there from 2017-2021 and saw 2 or 3 major accidents right where this bridge will be. One of which interrupted a lecture in the Douglas side of the now demolished Palmer Hall. I feel like I remember a student crossing the street got hit, but luckily made it out with only minor injuries. Not 100% sure tho!
  5. No this is exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you for sharing it all! That Orange line is an absolute no-brainer. Lakewood is the most densely populated city in the state, not to mention all of the density Cleveland adds as well. Lord knows I'd use it!
  6. While I think it's wise to appoint a special prosecutor, Matthew Ahn and his usual populist rhetoric doesn't hold much hold much weight for me. Or the majority of voters, for that matter. He seems like an intelligent person with good morals, but he really needs to learn that Twitter is not real life. Compromise and knowing which battles to fight is how you make long-lasting progress. For good reason, Bobby George is Cleveland's comic book villain. I had this thought a while ago, and it seems to make more sense every time he comes up: he operates like a mob boss. I can't imagine George would want to elect any democrat, but he's no stranger to legal issues, especially with the City or County. I'm sure he made the donation to O'Malley expecting it to buy him some lenience from the County Prosecutor. Like that it was some master-mind play. O'Malley is no Mother Teresa, but Cleveland is not a mob-run town anymore. No matter how bad people like Matthew Ahn and journalists like Sam Allard want to make it out to be.
  7. This is awesome! Thank you for sharing! Do you have a map of these hypothetical routes?

40 of the 119 acres of the island are a newly created Nature Preserve. That seems to important to note when discussion how "empty" it is. The erosion issue is unfortunate, but it is certainly fixable. Hypothetically, having another Jacob's Pavilion- sized venue and a new 40 acre nature preserve is guaranteed to make up the amount of people that currently fly in and out of Burke. Just the Pavilion alone is multiples more than the amount of people that currently use the airport. Oh yeah, and you still have another 400 acres left over.
  9. Unironically...yes. At least Bobby George has made this his model for Barley House Suburban MAGA folk are not a reliable audience for a bar in the heart of Cleveland. I'm telling you, they avoid the city like the plague and would rather go to their favorite sticky bar in Medina. They think there are bullets flying and not kidding about the parking thing. Every time I tell a suburbanite, MAGA or not, that I live downtown, the first thing they *always* say is "But the traffic and parking must be so terrible!" Whenever pro athletes and celebrities come to Cleveland, this is where they go because Bobby gives them free bottle service. Once word gets out they are there, all of the young "clout-chasers" and "hype-beast" types of Cleveland pack the place hoping to catch a glimpse of whoever is there that night. Source: I'm 25 and I live downtown lmao. Also, I have an old friend in high school that works there and documents all of this on social media.
  10. This would require MAGA suburbanites to be willing to go into the war zone that is any densely populated urban area. Not to mention them being traumatized by how hard it is to park their pick-up truck in Ohio City. The horror! 😱
  11. Is it wishful thinking/foolish optimism to think this might synergize with a potential Brightline route? Their Cleveland route concept ended at the airport and this is one Rapid stop from Hopkins. Maybe the Cleveland drop-off could be in Brook Park?
  12. This is my answer to most of society's problems lmao
  13. Make it into a downtown loop! Even crazier idea if it went to Ohio City somehow. I live near Playhouse/Progressive Field. Public square is the longest walk I'd consider to be furthest distance for it to still be insignificant. Anything else feels starts to feel like a bit of a hike. I have barely been to the Warehouse district or the Flats since living here because its close enough where driving/uber feels silly and wasteful, but far enough where I would prefer to not walk back considering the weather or late at night after I've enjoyed a beverage or two. I'd imagine plenty of folks that live over that way wouldn't mind getting to Heinen's or Progressive Field a little easier either. A loop would make downtown so much more accessible as a whole. Especially for the CSU students. Someone posted some pretty routes for just this not too long ago if I remember correctly. I'd love some kind of streetcar that goes across the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge, up W 25th, and back over the Detroit-Superior Bridge. I know they are doing the BRT line but it still doesn't "loop." Maybe a Downtown BRT loop could work but id rather a train of some sort.
  14. I'll push back on this. There's plenty of good folks that take transit in Cleveland, and we need all that we can get. Opening/closing the bike rack or raising the handicap-accessible seat in anticipation for someone getting on, helps get the bus moving and makes everyone's life easier. The driver doesn't have to get up and you just made someone's day a little better. While I'm sorry to hear about your poor experience, lets not pretend like this isn't anecdotal. With all due respect, Ken, you should know better. As a downtown resident, I utterly despise this sentiment. So much of my neighborhood is dedicated to subsidizing suburbanites and their travel preferences. I get quite frustrated at their utter refusal to accept that Cleveland's development shouldn't be held hostage by non-residents' demands of convenience. Parking lots and garages are deceptively expensive to build and maintain, and ruin the livability of a neighborhood. Something like 70% of sporting event attendees don't even live in the city or county. Why do I, the resident, have to pay for your "free" parking while having to deal with the hole left in my block the other 360 days a year you aren't there? How will transit improve in Cleveland if we refuse to use it while ignoring the negative externalities of car-centric development? This is UrbanOhio, right?
  15. Thanks! I can't wait to have some sense of permanence in Cleveland now that I'll finally own my own place. Hopefully I don't blow my wallet and health on too much late-night breakfast at My Friend's! I like the suggestions you've made. Hopefully these and other options to increase speed/reliability are being considered. I'm sure there's plenty of hard-working folks working on these types of issues that outside people like me can't see. As someone who works in project management for the public sector, there are so many things to consider that quickly complicate the situation. "Why don't they just do this?!" Well, because there's a lot more to it than just that lol.
  16. I find that a lot of the RTA bus lines ending at Public Square becomes quite a pain when it comes to getting passed downtown. For example, I'll be moving to Edgewater soon and was looking at the route options to get to my work in Midtown. The best option is the CSU line, then transfer to the Health Line with a wait time of up to 10 minutes give-or-take, depending on the time of day/schedules. Now, obviously, many trips don't call for going straight across the city. But why not have the busses "loop" in Public square and then continue East or West out of downtown opposite of where they came? The 26 goes down Detroit. Wouldn't it make sense for it to continue down Superior/St. Clair/Prospect? Especially if a new BRT Line is put in down Detroit, shouldn't that just continue down Euclid as the Healthline? If not Detroit, then Lorain or whatever you want. Is there something I'm missing here? I'm certainly no transit expert and I'm sure this is much easier said than done. But, this problem comes up a lot for me, and I can only imagine how annoying it must be for folks without other means for transportation.

I entered into the College Credit Plus program when I was in high school to try to escape the bullying for being LGT even in a West-side suburb of Cleveland, represented by Gayle Manning. Very surprised to see her go against this, but she and her son seem to be some the least ghoulish GOP state legislators. My rough experiences delayed me coming fully to terms with my current LGB[T] identity. I'm almost impressed they thought to close this "loophole." So much effort just to actively worsen the lives of young Ohioans. I'm so tired.
  18. Well, it's pretty miserable still, but not as bad last time lmao. https://www.reddit.com/r/Cleveland/s/6fJXzWLnJ3
  19. Lol I feel personally attacked!! 🤣
  20. Oh my goodness, that's going to be incredible once its complete! I hadn't heard anything about that in a while and was wondering what was up. Glad to see that Clark-Fulton is getting some love!
  21. I just posted this article to the Cleveland Subreddit. I was fighting for my life when I posted Ken's article about the stadium announcement lol. That sub is a cesspool of negativity. Even had someone reply with an antisemitic conspiracy theory on that post! I made sure to emphasize that this will be a publicly owned stadium. Everyone an their brother had something to say about billionaires and us giving them stadiums. Which I agree with generally, but it wasn't super clear at the time. Hopefully this time goes better. I really want this to happen, and I want folks to be excited about it!
  22. Sorry, we're not allowed too many coffee shops/restaurants downtown that are open past 5pm or on the weekends. Despite there being 20k people living there lol. But more seriously, I would love to have one these. Seems like a great idea.
  23. Thank you for the info! I wasn't having any luck with the CPL sources, but did find plenty of other cool things.
  24. This looks like exactly what I was looking. I was mixing up CSU and CPL in my head thinking that Cleveland Memory Project was through CPL. Thanks!
  25. Does anyone know of any good resources to look for historic photos/illustrations of buildings and places in Cleveland other than the Cleveland Memory Project? I'm looking for anything on a specific Edgewater residential building and CMP didn't seem to have what I was looking for. Any direction would be appreciated!
