  1. I'm not trying to start an argument, maybe a discussion but this is completely unacceptable when the numbers coming out show Columbus as being one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. This is comparing Nashville to Columbus on development. If Columbus wants to reach 40k downtown population by 2040 the city is going to have to be a little more aggressive. 1 or 2 projects being built downtown at 5/10 stories a year isn't even going to make these numbers close. With 15 years to reach to 40k goal, that means over 1,800 units need to be built and occupied each year until 2040.
  2. I'm ready to see the actual renderings of what this project will look like.
  3. Came across the picture of the Discovery District arial taken in 1924. You can see the Seneca Hotel (now apartments) in the upper right corner. As you notice, not a single surface parking lot. No wonder the population was around 35k downtown during this time period.
  4. Let's hope these developments start ASAP! Spring groundbreaking would be amazing on both of the downtown projects 😉
  5. This would be a great area to bring back the Columbus visitors center. Even if it's a smaller version of the one in the Arena District. Years ago the visitors center was actually located across the street in a 1 story 60s building next to the Madison. I have had a few people ask me while walking whe e e they could get maps or info.on things to do in the city, Aldo a few ask where they could get Columbus souvenirs like shirts or postcards.
  6. It's a beautiful reused space but the price tag for Columbus just doesn't seem to match. I'm no expert on pricing but they seem a bit steep for a city of this size by about $300 to $400 per month. There are people here who can afford them obviously but i don't know about filling the entire building. I really wished 5 or 6 floors would have been turned into condos. I'm sure that would have helped.
  7. The northwest corner of high and Long is horrendous! I'm not sure if the architect got fired but this is the most bland, cheap looking part of the entire building. Maybe the developer just said go with it after they got the price tag of what it would cost to complete using the materials they chose. We have 3 beautiful turn of the century buildings on the 3 other corners and then we end of with this.
  8. This might be for another thread but does anyone know the actual population of downtown coming into 2025?
  9. The city needs to hold the owners of these surface parking lots more accountable! I get it that they are in it for the money but something has to give!
  10. There's actually a building in Amsterdam called "The Whale" 😄
  11. It really is sad how bad it's gone down hill. The place just feels stale and empty. I took a few pictures inside of the screens that used to show the weekly events and now they are either torn out of the wall or not working at all Same with the screens in the underpass heading to Axis ( which is also the same owner).
  12. Honestly, living on High Street for two years now, ive seen a huge decrease in pedestrian traffic. Even The monthly gallery hop doesn't being bring in the crowds it brought in 5 to 10 years ago. I'm afraid that event could be a thing of the past if it doesn't change with the times. Also one of the only lgbtq bars in the neighborhood (Union) which I have been going to for almost 20 years has really started to go down hill since the new owners took over a few years ago. What was once so packed inside and out (patio) is hardly full anymore. One of the bartenders told me they used to have six to eight bartenders a night but have cut it back to three. Sorry about the rant but I really do hope the Short North Alliance really takes a step back and starts working with property owners to move the Short North in a positive direction.
  13. Sad day for the Short North. Anthropologie will be closing after their 10 year lease is up. January 12th will be their last day. The Short North seems to be going through alot of changes with several art galleries leaving for downtown, Bonobos closing, and now Anthropologie. I live right on High in the neighborhood and in the evening it's nothing but a younger more wild crowd with mostly bars. I really hope they can fill this space with something other than a restaurant or bar. I would love to see a cb2 or West Elm store!
  14. Also there is a mostly women's clothing/accessories shop opening near the USPS shop across the street at the Nicholas. The owner has a shop in Worthington and is expanding into downtown! https://614now.com/2025/culture/popular-worthington-shop-opening-second-location-downtown Few photos from the Worthington Location.
  15. Shots taken this afternoon. Black brick is starting to go on the taller portion while metal framing is going on the shorter side connecting to the Madison Hanes building.
  16. Few shots taken this afternoon. There are three sections in height to the building. It seems the shorter of the three have almost topped out.
  17. Here's the one at the Carlyles Watch
  18. The crane is now almost as tall as the Hilton Tower.
  19. I know this is a massive project, but that is crazy how many crane's are on site! Pretty cool view🏗
  20. It was a dumpy two story hotel called The Varsity Inn.
  21. I wish the Woods company would do more projects around the city. Imo, they are the best in Columbus
  22. I drove by today and noticed several pieces of construction equipment on site. As of April 2024 here are the renderings. It's probably changed some since then.
  23. From Google earth, it looks like the footprint of the lot next to the convention center is a tad larger than the Le Meridien. Plus they have the parking already in place with the garage next door. Just checked and theLe Meridien has 135 guest rooms.
  24. Nationwide should have never been approved for this five story suburban style office building. We all pretty much know the city will basically bend over backwards for anything they want though.
