  1. Your critique applies to our poor leadership over many decades who took waaaay too many losses without even trying and some actually added some banana peels to accelerate our downward slide. But we suddenly have new forward-looking leadership (Bibb and Ronayne) who brought us back in and are at least offering some hope for the first time in decades. Let them do the work and then tell us when there is no other hope. Then we will do the after-action report and assign blame beyond Jimmy and the greedy NFL if appicable. Now is not the time to turn the lights off and give up at the jump while all plans are at the trial balloon conceptual stages and very fluid. Time for positve energy - Cleveland was been left alone wandering in the desert for the last many decades and now good things seems to happening.
  2. But it does says he wil cover the overruns: The Bills are responsible for any overruns beyond $1.54 billion...“I’m very pleased knowing that when all is said and done — and it still isn’t done, so it could go up even more — that the county is going to probably have contributed no more than 12% of the total cost, which is a pretty good deal,” Erie County executive Mark Poloncarz told The AP...The Pegulas are now on the hook for $1.25 billion in construction costs, plus $144 million more as part of a community benefits package to be spread out over the 30-year lease...The Bills are funding their share through an NFL loan program as well as raising money through a first-time seat licensing fee for season-ticket holders. Preliminary plans are also in the works to establish an entertainment zone, featuring restaurants, bars and shops, to be built once the existing stadium is razed. It's a *** measuring context between these owners (see Jerry Jones) and Jimmy is trying to measure up. At least the Buffalo owner stopped going to the public trough after the initial city/county/state commitment. They also burtied the lede...Pegula is also raising money by seeking to sell off a minority share — no more than 25% — of the franchise, though Guelli said the reasons behind the move are not connected to increased construction costs. The Bills met with several interested groups over the summer and into September, with Pegula expected to identify a new partner by the end of the year. We guessed this is also why the Haslams did a last-minute 180 and out-of-the-blue walked away from the collaborative lakefront planning with Cle/County/State and rushed out the generic BP concept plans. Saint Jimmy wants more cash for HSG to continue to buy other sports franchises per the new Bazillionaire trend of Multi-club ownership (MCO) - apparently in addition to the new NFL 10% equity owenership rule (the Bills owners already own the NHL Buffalo Sabres). We call BS and say quit shining us on. Jimmy needs to come clean and stop telling how great BP is for Cleveland and for that matter what sacrifices he is making for us. Ideally Jimmy would sell 25% to a minority ownership group (why not Lebron James Fenway Sports Group?), then sell 10% to private equity groups, and then take advantage of the NFL loans (as Buffalo) and recommit to the Lakefront (current or Burke or other Downtown Cleveland location).
  3. could the hotel be an EDITION as Gilbert i sputting in his new Hudson skyscraper? https://detroit.urbanize.city/post/edition-hotel-confirmed-hudsons-detroit
  4. mostly kidding - but what are the odds they marked this text for redaction but did not apply them in Adobe - just a longshot KJP if the staffer rushed the redaction and sent you the original file without hitting apply.
  5. We'll throw in the towel and pack it in when all parties say it is final. Until then all things are possible. We know it is the Cleveland way to think the worst immediatelyand gripe but we have to change our mental model as those in other successful cities do (many with less amenities than we have). Also, we are not seeing Bibb or Ronayne playing games for reelection points at this still fluid stage. Plus they don't need to as we all agree Jimmy is a cartoon bad guy changing his positions with the wind. In this situation we see Bibb/Ronayne will be held mostly harmless.
  6. Live Nation? They are working with Orland Magic on something similar... https://www.thestadiumbusiness.com/2024/10/16/live-nation-brought-in-for-orlandos-westcourt-project/
  7. I can't iamgine on an already lengthy trip from Florida to Chicago. If Ohio had least an Acela equivalent (3Cs +) it would encourage intra-State travel and tourism as we found somewhat easy on Acela to/from DC and points north on the corridor. We always paid extra premium for the Acela when able due to the time saved. The regular Amtrak trains (though often on sale for $29 or $39 one way) factored in the track priorites of freight and Acela trains and often have to pull over to allow both to pass. It was torture on these relatively short routes up and down the corridor but still easier than the hourly airline shuttles.
  8. if this is it Wow! https://www.cosm.com/the-experience
  9. I will defer to Bibb and Ronayne on their end game but I am sure it remains to convince the Haslams to do what's right and recommit to the city in any form - ideally Burke but we are opened minded as would be expected in any true negotiation (this appears to be one-side to date). Bottom line? The Vocon concepts had us all at hello - why not the Haslams/HSG too? They say Columbus is now a world class city because of their effforts there - now do the same for Cleveland. btw...to a small extent we curious to see the elusive Haslam renderings for the lakefront that were nixed somehow for the ill-conceived and short-sighted BP concept sketches (just like the Deshaun Watson gambit). They may really be trying to package the Browns for a % sale to new partners as they follow other Bazillionaires in pursuit of the mulit-club ownership (MCO) trend around the world. He just bought 25% of the NBA Bucks and word on the street is they want the Blue-Jackets for their portfolio next - but who knows? Either way...We just want our team in our city. Period. Then leave us and future generations alone to enjoy the Browns - good or bad on-the-field performances.
  10. Come on TMUD! Ohio, it's Cleveland's turn after the last round - hopefully this is the stongest and highest-profile project among the competitors.
  11. Always good to get reviews before we take the long ride - it is still on our bucket list at some point but the time...Until then we are enjoying seeing the long-haul Amtrak experience thru the eyes of these yutes and others such as this recent Amtrak review we saw on a news aggregation site from a traveler just days before the switich of the route from NYC to Chicago. If you can overlook the reason for this Brit's (from the Brexit/Farage era) travel from Florida to DC it is another interesting perspective of an experienced world train traveler on the pros/cons of 1st class travel on our Amtrak. https://raheemkassam.substack.com/p/26-hours-on-an-american-amtrak
  12. If Park Place continiue their rapid growth who knows if they will want a showpiece HQ to recruit the yutes. We guess, the vacant nearby Progressive campus was too tantalizing given their current needs. Can't blame them for the cautious approach post-COVID era. We assume Rocket will soon be part of Phase 1B or 1C per their tax break obligations as KJP has mentioned previously.
  13. hopefully a successful LA-SF launch will expedite Ohio planning and funding and increase public support here.
  14. Smart and sensible move on behalf of ther citizens to get the response as strong as possible as it is becoming more and more obvious the Haslams and their slick HSG attorneys have had their surprise relocation announcement, legal filings and non-stop PR campaign, planned and gamed out for quite some time - all the while the city and county assumed they were engaged in good faith negotiations. Now that the city and county finally know what and who they have been dealing with they deserve the time to pivot and respond in kind. Mayor Bibb and Executive Ronayne good luck and please don't let us down!
  15. at least it is better than their earlier draft graphic
  16. Good to see Bedrock rolling along and also a relief to see plans for the ragged Allerton Apartments on 13th - long overdue.
  17. Years ago they began to recognize up to 2 years of Tri-C credits so not sure how much more juice can be squeezed there - unless CSU gets heavy into the trades/technical training cert side of things. Mergers or closures happening everywhere - look at our local Notre Dame and the new merger between Ursuline and Gannon - that may be the route to follow in some form.
  18. We also see that Skyline (City Club) still hasn't received the geometric upper floors cladding yet from China
  19. It would be if what the CSU master plan had envisioned for the Wolstein Arena - a Partneship village - had a chance (to include adding a 22nd street cap over the hgihway. But given CSU's current finacial instability I assume their master plan will be revised further inward. Plus, their recent master plan has future student housing expanding again to the north between Chester and Payne and did not contemplate a southward expansion even when when they still had a rosey outlook and swung for the fences with their wish list. Now if some other institution can connect the Wolstein Arena giant footprint wtih a highway CAP (see C-Bus Short North Cap) with the soon to be vacant Juvenile Court and St V land...I don't think the women's soccer league can wait that long - unless Cincy beats us out for the expansion team next week and the investor group wants to rethink their proposed site.
  20. Metroparks keeps delivering for our city and county quietly and steadily. Well done! Next the Lakefront and Riverfront!
  21. It is growing on me as an alternative to the typical PVC patio fencing and is a modern privacy solution to having a patio door opening directly on a very urban sidewalk that will bring the good and bad right to your window 24/7. This may be one of those floorplans - https://live-driftwood.com/apartments/125
  22. Seems peaceful and more conducive to rehab than the concrete torture tower downtown - if you have not seen the inside please take a tour and you will conclude you would not wish it on your enemies let alone the brave corrections and treatment staff. They deserve a mondern safe environment as much as the prisoners - please stop the delays and just get this done for society's sake.
  23. can't have too much parking I guess? - hopefully there will be a Sheetz gas station within the development so the alleged football tourists can safely fill their gas tanks up before heading for the interstate or turnpike.
  24. This all seems iffy and sketchy (both the BP land options and Berea plans). Per the KJP story everything is set in stages - stages that may not come if Jimmy leaves town with our Browns in 6 months (nothing seems to break ground until at least then). I can't get past their rushing to sue the city of Cleveland at the jump - the City they profess to love - over Ohio's Modell Law. They say it is either unconstitutional - or not applicable - but either way they took the extreme position and put the us all on notice that the 6-month clock to move (anywhere?) already started. Even if the Berea development was underway it is billed as a community project with some housing, a hotel and a UH hospital project - all of which can Jimmy can simply sell or walk away from and donate to BW or the community. We hope we are wrong but we smell a rat. Again if the Haslam's really wanted what is best for Cleveland all they have to do is come back to the table and negotiate with Mayor Bibb and Executive Ronayne and simply repeat what he is doing to make Downtown C-bus a world class city: https://www.pizzuti.com/press/astor-park https://haslamsports.com/properties/astor-park/ Per Dee Haslam: “We love how Astor Park is evolving and are excited for the Columbus community to experience the neighborhood in so many unique and exciting ways,” said Dee Haslam, Chief Executive Officer of Haslam Sports Group. “We’re certainly thrilled that New Crew Stadium within Astor Park points to the exciting future of Crew SC, Major League Soccer and the world-class city of Columbus. While the name Astor Park was derived from its historic soccer roots, we know the neighborhood itself will be vibrant and dynamic with great energy year-round from people working, living, and enjoying the beautiful green space.”
