  1. We remeber Fazio's as a thriving state of art grocery store back in the late 70's in that location then Ponderosa came along (you can see its carcass peeking to the right of the pic). If Dave's couldn't make it there in recent times not sure if Aldi's or Lidl would touch it. Maybe the Grocery Outlet group just entering the Cleveland market would bite if strongly incentivized? Otherwise housing would help stabilize the neighborhood since it is across from the growing Euclid Beach/Villa Angela State Metroparks lakefront reservation and a mile or so due north of the fledgling Waterloo Arts District.
  2. and they had public baths as we too will soon have. Check that box. Now bring on the domed Burke Coliseum (or covered current stadium).
  3. It is embarassing. RTA management should wake every day trying to make that line their crown jewel to regain public trust in the rest of their operations. Disgraceful. We need the County to engage tech companies such as those flocking to the suddenly tech-centric Smart City Pittsburgh to study ways to improve or find alternatives to this slow-ride BRT. I am surprised Case hasn't been engaged to have their engineeers study fixes. Otherwise until we can rent peronalized jet packs as easily e-scooters and bikes maybe we do demo projects and allow personal rickshaws to compete with the slow-ride buses- they can't be any slower than our current state of RTA's BRT. Oe last idea - why not embrace it as Clevelanders do so well - let's rename it the Foghat Line and play Foghat's 70's classic on a loop in each bus and bus stop to calm those who have to ride the slow-ride BRT.
  4. and the bridge ramps casting long shadows and blocking views to/from the Warehouse district are gone! Well done.
  5. Lake Erie is healthier than we thought to support both Bessie and now we have Flipper or Jaws? Be careful out there...
  6. Yes is very interesting which side DeWine will take. In the Crew fight it was obvious DeWine thought it was solid - at least as noted in the Columbus Monthly 2019 play by play on how Columbus and Statehouse apparent whisperer Alex R. Fischer (who wrote the Crain piece this week on Saint Jimmy) and Jimmy and Dee Haslam saved the Crew for Columbus. https://www.columbusmonthly.com/story/lifestyle/2019/04/02/the-improbable-salvation-columbus-crew/5392947007/ For example: “…One morning in early December 2017, Fischer got a phone call while driving down Riverside Drive. It was Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, who’d been studying an obscure state law—Ohio Revised Code 9.67, the “Art Modell law,” passed in 1996 after Modell moved the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore—at the urging of then-Ohio Rep. Mike Duffey. It prevents teams that play home games in tax-supported facilities from moving out of Ohio without first allowing locals six months to purchase the team. DeWine, who is now governor, determined there was a clear violation of the law. It had never been tested, but he believes it’s constitutional. “People are on notice when they take money or take a benefit from the state of Ohio,” he says. He wanted to know if a lawsuit would help or hurt Fischer’s efforts. Fischer reasoned that Franklin County Common Pleas judges are elected officials, thus a case pitting locals against a New York sports commissioner and a San Francisco trust-fund kid stood a good chance. So on Dec. 7, 2017, DeWine released a letter warning Precourt about the Modell law. And on March 5, 2018, days before the Crew’s home opener, DeWine and Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein jointly sued PSV and MLS…
  7. not a lawyer either - but we can assume the Courts could split the relatively novel Modell law baby either way. All we are certain of is if it goes against Jimmy they consider the 6 month clock to have started already. Also, not sure if it only applies to moves out of market or out of state but a simple layman's reading of ORC Section 9.67 seems to only find the term "elsewhere" not out of market or state. Maybe there is some preamble language that would guide a judge on the legislative intent - if not we are lucky the author Dennis Kucinich is available as testify as SME? Is Kucinich ready to slay Goliath again as he did as boy mayor with nemesis Cleveland Trust Brock Weir(or similar name ?) on behalf of Muny Light. Sounds like he has one more fight in him? https://www.cleveland.com/news/2024/10/dennis-kucinich-threatens-taxpayer-lawsuit-if-city-wont-invoke-modell-law-to-block-browns-move.html https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-9.67
  8. True - But we still had a huge daytime downtown population until the 80's to build upon in theory as compared to today. it was a different era with the combustible river (and Mayor Perk's hair), suburban flight, corporate flight to the south and sunbelt and the embarassing default, all set the stage for the misery that was to follow. If only the leaders could have worked with Mileti and Stienbrenner when he wanted to buy the Indians things may have been different today. It seems we have a window open right now to try and regain some of that magic if only...
  9. Plus it may no longer fit at E 55th with Metroparks CHEERS and new Parker Sailing Center on the horizon. Maybe at the east end of Burke but as you say at what cost? https://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/about/planning-design/cheers-cleveland-harbor-eastern-embayment-resilien https://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/news-press/2024/september-2024/cleveland-metroparks-and-partners-announce-world-c
  10. Such a beautiful skyline but have so many empty buildings. This is one area where we are ahead of Pittsburgh. Notable, at least their Governor is working hand in hand with Pittsburgh leaders. Can you imagine if DeWine would support the dome downtown with Governor Shapiro’s enthusiasm rather than for his BFF’s BP vanity project. I also love their motto: Pittsburgh’s Future Starts Downtown. While we some how are being forced to swallow and like Cleveland’s Future Starts in Brook Park. Sabotage? We need to secede from this State and append to Pennsylvania to get State leadership we deserve.
  11. …further - if we can clean this infested superblock maybe we can drop out of Orkin’s top 10 list of U.S. Rattiest cities. Unfortunately in this poll we beat C-bus (17) and Cinci (34). https://www.orkin.com/press-room/top-rodent-infested-cities-2024
  12. Now drop in the view to include the amazing Vocon dome and nature preserve proposal.
  13. I noticed the next act in the Haslam/DeWine Kabuki theatre was just introduced on the Cincinnati: Paycor Stadium Renovations thread. Remember Cinci said a dome was out of the question? Looky here (or there on that thread) there are 2 beautiful Bengals dome renderings next to their thriving downtown backdrop. I am sure Haslam's crony DeWine will suddenly rationalize a State contribution of $1 Billion+ each now for both - Cinci's exciting waterfront dome and for his Haslam, his long-time BFF's unwanted dome, smack in the middle of a ScoobyDoo ghost town with the only nearby visitor amenity being the notorius Brookpark Road upscale shopping district and hourly lodging zone (the international press will love it if a superbowl is ever played there). Attention Mayor Bibb and Executive Ronayne: more State money (double +) may suddenly be on the table for a Lakefront Dome...
  14. You probably would have to first Chernobyl the entire block to evict legendary roaches, mice, rats etc., that have burrowed into the walls and basements over the decades.
  15. SOOOOO TRUE! If only a certain NFL owner of a poorly managed but community-beloved sports team would have the same love and interest in Cleveland's future as the developers of the CPD HQ and their neighbors Cross Country Mortgage and GBX among many others.
  16. Wow – the designs by top 50 ranked architectural and design firm Vocon (New York and Cleveland) look amazing and provide the image all Northeast Ohioans needed to see first before we could support 100% and rally around. These design renderings finally speak to and even exceed our collective 50-plus year hope that our lakefront could begin to emulate Chicago and Toronto – or even Milwaukee. So now we can also forgive why Bibb and Ronayne kept these plans on the low-low while continuing to working reasonably and diligently in good faith to bring the Haslams and HSG along and support the community they profess to care about even though the Haslams had apparently secretly locked in and scripted their aggressive PR campaign long ago. Importantly, Ronayne is now on record in the Plain Dealer story with key observations such as: “...He suggested that the existing stadium could undergo necessary short-term improvements while the city works to close the airport and prepare it for development. The Browns involvement, he said, might even speed up the process. “It gives us a reason to get there quicker,” he said, adding, “Nobody’s told us we can’t get this done in five years.” With Bibb’s DC experience and influence with the current Administration, I hope it is most likely Mayor Bibb has been in touch with Mayor Pete (DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg) and his FAA Administrator to help expedite an agreement before January 20th (if the worst case happens in November). After all, Burke is only one of the 5 nearby FAA-certified Reliever airports for Hopkins and those could easily absorb and share what little remains since the alleged heyday of Burke ops. Plus, all of these have already been quietly getting FAA-funded runway and facility enhancements so even less time than would be needed to complete the sunsetting and bulldozing of Burke as County Executive Ronayne implies. Well done Ronayne and Bibb.
  17. Amazing Dome development renderings today - finally! Finally a counter to the Jimmy HSG PR rollout such as today's Crains pro-Haslam astroturf puff piece (surprisingly no firewall?) in favor of the BP site and how lucky we are in Northeast Ohio, by Haslam family and DeWine insider Alex R. Fischer: Personal View: Thoughts on the Browns' stadium issue from Columbus https://www.crainscleveland.com/commentary/personal-view-thoughts-browns-stadium-issue-columbus “…So it pains me on multiple fronts to see your mayor (Justin Bibb) blatantly practicing divisive politics with the Cleveland Browns and the Haslams. No one puts the community as a higher priority than the Haslam family. Publicly and privately, they have always emphasized and practiced the importance of the Browns to Cleveland, Northeast Ohio, and our state. The Modell law? They are planning to invest in Cleveland, which again includes the broader Northeast Ohio region, to the tune of more than $2 billion. They have not suggested moving the Browns to Columbus (in jest, perhaps that’s not a bad idea) or some other market… …Let's stack hands as Ohio, let's think regionally and accomplish big things together. The time for bold action for Ohio's future is now, and this urgency should drive us forward.” Take-away: They expect us to be swayed by this person who was unknown to us until his coming out article today feigning to know what is best for Cleveland while attacking our Mayor Bibb. Isn't this the same person who enigineered the attempted Brown's trainining camp move to C-Bus? The game is being methodically stacked against us by the downstate political swamp. Why the rush unless they are trying to trigger the Brown's departure because of the "divisive" Cleveland politicos and rubes who just can't appreciate the near-Biblical charitable works of the Haslams/HSG. Bibb, Ronayne and Sherrod – please throw a wrench in their plans for us.
  18. Agree! I can't wait for the future view toward downtown (see NorthShore647's pix stack above and pasted here) at night when all units are occupied - it will create postcard (remember those) images of a thriving livable downtown. What a historical pivot from belching smokestacks to living room lights at night. Once successfully completed it may help expedite interest in apartment/condo highrises in Gilbert's Riverfront Phases 1B, 1C, 2,...
  19. Willo replied to CincyImages's post in a topic in Urbanbar
Well I hope Gilbert will soon give us similar on his NuCLEus site (hopefully skyline changing as often repeated on UO) and on our riverfront. Gilbert did land GM so kudos to him. I wish he would save us from HSG and buy the Browns.
  20. Yes the Brook Park land across the road from the airport always was ideally suited for either airport-related development and even a new main post office regional distribution center - even IKEA. Something doesn't smell right with Jimmy shifting from his Pro-Cleveland plans to stay put with a land bridge and lakefront development (and with prime Burke land added as icing on the cake) to now whiplashing us with the out-of-the-blue divorce announcement and pre-emptive Court filings. Why would this so-called developer turn away an exclusive offer to build year-yound attractions on both sides of the Rock Hall. Must be because Jimmy's pupils turned to dollar signs while at the helm of the NFL Private Equity committee (just like when Art Modell headed the NFL's relocation committee and saw the financial package offered to move the Bengals to LA - which Art later claimed for himself on the BWI tarmac). Buy the land already Jimmy and let's see your next move. But stop calling it a win-win for the community.
  21. True - for storage or for visitor cars especially if they don't want to park their Hyundai or Kia on the street. They could also reduce it to 2-car and combine that space with the other ground floor space and create a larger ADU to rent.
  22. Bibb and Ronayne can do both at the same time and yes people of all socio-economic classes care about the Browns staying. We finally have leadership who appear to get it and want to reverse Cleveland's misfortunes and understand the need to fight to keep our remaining major assets like the Browns and their positive revenue streams that support the Cleveland social safety net and quality of life concerns above. Plus we need to keep and build on such draws if we want the nascent boomerang Clevelander trend to continue and at the same time begin to attract more and more of the expected climate refugees and a bigger share of the millions of newcomers who have streamed across the border from all over the world and try to rebuild our population.
  23. True. Plus Jimmy knows how much the NFL will help with “private money” in the form of easy loans/contributions - once Jimmy completes HSG’s messy public divorce with Cleveland- as he knows SoFi got at least $900 million from the NFL https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-owners-approve-lending-rams-another-500-million-for-stadium not to mention the NFL built their new 500,000 square foot Media HQ next door: https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-09-08/nfl-media-moves-to-inglewood-sofi-stadium
  24. That sounds like selection interference.
  25. Nice supportive article in C-bus Dispatch. https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/columns/2024/10/24/city-of-cleveland-positions-itself-to-sue-browns-over-potential-move/75808610007/ Some excerpts: ...Their “desire to make a transformative investment in Greater Cleveland and the entire Northeast Ohio region” is an optimal solution for them, first and foremost. Opening up the lakefront for development has merit – there may be no better parcel in the state for such a purpose – but there are other potential stadium solutions within Cleveland, for which the Browns generate $30 million in annual revenue. If the Haslams, who have a net worth somewhere in the range of $8 billion to $10 billion, were as civic-minded as they want everyone to believe, they’d find a solution in Cleveland. Think of it this way: If you suddenly got your hands on $8 billion and the Cleveland Browns, you’d build a stadium on the site of the big Post Office site Downtown, invest in a lakefront development and die with the love of a city and future generations of Dawg Pounders. And you wouldn’t trade for a serial sex offender. ...A move to the suburbs has everything to do with the further enrichment of people who have enough money to think they can do anything they want. But as one member of the Cleveland City Council put it, “If the Haslam Sports Group wants to provide a ‘fan experience,’ put a damn winning team on the field.”
