Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
Has been crickets from Bibb and Jimmy since this report was released last month. Hope that means they are privately talking Burke! FYI - Drove by Lake County Executive airport (an FAA-funded Hopkins reliever airport) and the major overhauls funded by FAA and sponsored by Sherrod Brown are under way comprising a brand new terminal and major runway rehab and even private hangars (construction equipment lines the the majority of the runaway that can be seen from Lost Nation). It appears ready to expand business further which likely would easily include absorbing parts of Burke ops along with Cuyahoga County and their siblings in the 5-county region. Let's get that Nature Preseve locked down with some economic development (Jimmy World?) on the western edge adjacent across from Rock Hall. Beyond that we don't need further housing or offices on rest of this tract (not to mention the sediment/fill challenges underneath) given Cleveland's embarassment of idle land nearby just waiting for rebirth. That economic activity should emerge on the bluffs like Gordon Square lakefront. Let's get this legacy project done Bibb, Royanye and Sherrod! https://www.news-herald.com/2024/09/20/lake-county-executive-airport-terminal-building-project-set-to-move-forward/?utm_content=tw-newsheraldinoh&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_source=twitter.com

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Glad it’s the Cavs and not Browns as I am sure some would suggest “The Titanic” Can't stop...what are the odds the rooftop becomes an unintended tourist trap for photos and enagements. Why not since Cleveland had to endure the famous Johnny Carson joke: “What’s the difference between Cleveland and the Titanic? Cleveland has a better orchestra.” Now we can have both.

Cleveland / Northeast Ohio: "What If/Hypothetical/Dream" Construction and Projects Discussion
Can’t speak to the ballot issue as we will still have the same politicians who party on for decades Columbus and DC while reigning over our decline for 50 years. However you are correct we already have amenities that most are amazed by once they actually move here and that most cities do not have. So we need more glossy lipstick on this pig we lovingly call Cleveland. Start with the lakefront ASAP led by metro parks who seems the best public steward of our scare public dollars and actually get things done! If it takes another quarter sales tax to jump start and complete Burke to Gordon Park to the burgeoning riverfront we need to do it for eye candy that will draw more of the youth and newcomers. Columbus, Pittsburgh and even Detroit are killing it and have their attention right now. While we love mass transit and hope TODs continue on existing routes I can’t imagine earmarking any more scarce sales tax to RTA and expecting to get the same return as MetroParks does.

Cleveland: Downtown: Rockefeller Building Rehab-Additions
Thanks you on TMUD news. Regarding “skyline changing” all here have been breathlessly waiting for news on the “skyline changing” development that has been teased here for some time.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Rockefeller Building Rehab-Additions
Very encouraging and interesting what it may include as the available footprint is sizable once the garage is removed. Do you know if this development applied for TMUD? Skyline changing??

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Thanks for catching the BP building peek-a-boo behind SW as it often blocked from the west.

Cleveland: Cudell / West Boulevard / Edgewater: Development and News
I only know the area while cutting thru and seems a gas station is last thing needed. Isn’t this area eligible for TOD? Aren’t there several nearby already? Why not workforce housing with daycare and job training/ESL classes on ground floor to serve the neighborhood. I fear a gas station at this major crossroad would only serve as another meet up spot for the street takeover car gangs and their fan club.

Cleveland: Downtown: Rockefeller Building Rehab-Additions
Rockefeller closing was even mentioned in the CBRE podcast posted under the Project Scarlet thread so it looks promising: “…Spencer Levy Jamie, final thoughts from you. What's your vision five years from now for Cleveland? Jamie Dunford It doesn't look vastly different. A couple of things. One, Project Scarlet. There is other additional assets on the market that I've got listed today that are under contract, that are going to be conversions, right? One of the historic Rockefeller Building right across from Sherman Williams…”

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Sad but makes sense. At least there will be an uptick in much needed workforce foot traffic in the area between the other leased buildings and new HQ once opened.

Cleveland: Downtown: Medical Mutual HQ Renovation
Good point and add “Project Scarlet” to socialize their preferred name Thank you for the synopsis! It made me listen to the entire podcast. Had to look up what the current industry understanding and use of “Branded Multifamily Project” meant: https://www.bdcnetwork.com/hotels-extend-market-reach-branded-multifamily-residences. Sounds like Kasouff’s long-rumored W Hotel/Apartments at Erieview? Anyway…The Project Scarlet project sounds solid but appears there is some more financing to secure. I wonder if they applied for the final FY 25 TMUDs that just closed on Friday. For that matter can’t wait to see who else applied!!!

Cleveland: Downtown: Medical Mutual HQ Renovation
Project Scarlet? Can you give a hint what it is and at what minute mark does it begin within the 39 minute podcast? I am guessing it is code for the conversion proposed.

Cleveland / Northeast Ohio: "What If/Hypothetical/Dream" Construction and Projects Discussion
Great dream come to life presentation. I wish it could all be developed ASAP especially the TOD concepts at W25 and also on Columbus Peninsula as envisioned. Until then we may get the first hotel a block away across 25th by Dan Whelan. If only his former Harbor Bay Ventures would resurrect the next phases of Intro maybe a boutique hotel could work there also. But with the news from C-bus it seems Harbor may only be able to focus on a High Street OSU project given the lending environement: https://columbusunderground.com/mass-timber-building-moving-forward-bier-stube-to-close-bw1/

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
Midtown was always a tough sell but it just keeps quietly surprising us with an impressive beachhead being bravely established without the fanfare of their neighbors to the east or downtown. The Cleveland Foundation Campus and the Foundry Lofts - among the other pieces being assembled one by one - are making others take a second look. Long way to go but we are on our way!

Yes the lift bridge observation deck is an amazing yet simple idea with greatest impact. Like the Hancock tilt out observation deck https://360chicago.com/tilt

Cleveland Browns Discussion
So much seems wrong it must be self-sabotage while alledegly focused on a new or renovated stadium in Cleveland/Cleveland area. The Haslam's attention span must be stretched too thin with their focus on Tennessee, Columbus, Milwaukee and Cleveland. He obviously is delegating way too much to un-named people in his corporations overseeing each enterprise and "they" in turn probably make life hard for those in the local Berea management structure. Not the owner Cleveland expected or deserves especially after survviing the Modells and NFL betrayal. Also the Haslam's silence does not smell right - hopefully they will speak up to reassure the fans. At least we get our 1st round picks again next Spring (?) so we can draft an Offensive line and see once and for all if Watson is also as bad with a solid line and healthy running backs?

Thank you! I was confused what remained with the departure of Knez's piece.

Cleveland: Clark–Fulton / Stockyards: Development and News
Any news on the grand opening of the exciting CentroVilla25? Does it have its own thread? What a catalyst to unite all of West 25th. I love the overt nod to Viejo San Juan. More please! When BRT25 comes on line in 2026(?) look out! We can only hope West 25th develops as Queen Street West Toronto did beginning in the 80s with both international newcomers and hipsters - both of which Cleveland needs to survive and hopefully rise again! https://www.clevelandconstruction.com/general-contracting/projects/centrovilla25

Do you have a rendering of what's under construction. I do not recall what it will look like.

Why Americans Are Fat
So true. We would need to study the methodology deeper and assess the consistency or variability of the reported data in each County and each State to try to explain why adjoining counties in two neighboring states are obersved to be wildly dissimilar. It may be that the underlying report itself may have more thoughtful observations than the political headline slapped on top of @Hunter's twitter feed. Such a singular take-a-away that pits peoples/regions against each other politically is not helpful to our social discourse.

Cleveland: Skylift Aerial Tram
Is it time to dust off the cobwebs for buzz worthy transportation ideas such as aerial gondolas? Would be easier way to activate our new lakefront nature preserve when/if we can finally shut down Burke. Could have possible touch points such as to Metro Parks at Edgewater and to the new at Gordon Park waterfront, Tremont, Ohio City Westside Market, Scranton Penninsula or Tower City Bedrock, Irishtown Bend Park... https://www.cleveland.com/architecture/2017/04/city_planning_commission_gives.html if Paris can do it... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-02-04/by-2025-parisians-could-commute-by-gondola Why not

The development visible as one exits the W.14/Abbey ramp is remarkable.

Cleveland: University Circle: Skyline on Stokes
Geis design or not, it really does expand the visual boundaries of the area and will encourage others to fill in gaps - along with the new Meijer Fairfax Market.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Yes I agree. I was always loved the view from the water in a boat and even from Burke - so it will be excellent for all to have that opportunity year-round from a future Metro Parks lakefront natutre preserve (sorry Burke).

Cleveland / Northeast Ohio: "What If/Hypothetical/Dream" Construction and Projects Discussion
Great idea. It was a shame to lose the trolleys. A museum would be another draw for foot traffic. Maybe the Western Reserve Historical Society could sponsor a new location or outpost and combine with other area history in a new museum on trains, trolley, auto history (Crawford Auto/Aviation) and even add the Euclid Beach carousel, etc., now tucked away in their University Circle lobby. I believe there was talk at one point to display some classic Crawford cars displayed in the 925 Euclid (Centennial) lobby as potential draw to earlier rehab plans.
