  1. Hope also for any good news. No more bad news since the Cliffs news this week. Maybe Sherwin Williams is buying PPG and moving their Hq from Pittsburgh to Cleveland- they owe us one 😂
  2. Maybe they can offer them to someone who can move one to a nearby side street. As Tremont matures there should be more high density uses as these 12 units on main roads. They look good for the location. More density, residents and taxes than presently we assume.

I only knew Major League (filmed in Milwaukee for some reason) https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/cleveland-guardians/2025/01/16/major-league-bob-uecker-quotes/77745009007/
  4. I sounds like the Cleveland Cliffs mining related jobs stay but the HQ prestige goes to Pittsburgh (again), though hopefully his bluster will evolve. (We wish he instead would have said a combined HQ in Cleveland has no imapct on Pittsburgh as the current US Steel CEO, COO and GC allegedly live in other states.) Goncalves also said, "The name of the surviving entity will be the United States Steel Corporation. Cliffs will be part of United States Steel Corporation," he said. "The mining side will be Cleveland Cliffs, the steel side will be United States Steel." At least the Greater Cleveland Partneship weighed in: ...nothing is set in ston,e and that's why the Greater Cleveland Partnership tells News 5 they will work to get Goncalves to rethink any decision about potentially moving out of Cleveland. "From its founding in 1847 to its position today as the second largest steelmaker in North America, Cleveland-Cliffs has been one of our region’s leading companies and contributor to our strong business environment," said GCP CEO Baiju Shah in a statement. "We applaud the company’s efforts to strengthen US manufacturing and national security through its continued growth as well as its many contributions to our community. With its deep roots here, we strongly believe its headquarters should remain in Cleveland, and we will work with others to make that case to the company." https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/local-news/if-cleveland-cliffs-acquires-us-steel-its-ceo-says-the-headquarters-of-the-new-company-would-be-in-pittsburgh
  5. Great idea! Somehow we thought they were more committed to Cleveland. What a blow if it happens... ...Goncalves’ commitment to move Cliffs’ headquarters from Cleveland to Pittsburgh was one promising factor. U.S. Steel has said that without the Nippon merger, it would leave the region and consolidate operations at its facilities in Arkansas. https://www.cbs19news.com/townnews/politics/shapiro-could-support-new-u-s-steel-buyout-offer/article_952d3e7e-e32e-5593-891c-284b7086f4c1.html
  6. Great idea and great way to finally catch and monetize Bessie before Canada's Ontarians do: https://greatlakes.guide/ideas/meet-bessie-the-loch-ness-monsters-canadian-cousin-livin
  7. Never heard of Turo until the New Orleans and Vegas vehicle terror incidents.
  8. Great spot for a much needed mid-rise condo building. But I am sure we will get a parking lot or an even large more obscene billboard crammed on the lot. Are they related to the George family famous for their billboards?
  9. Hearing him for the first time today he definitely is bombastic. It was hard to make out his full comments, given his thick accent, but he rattled off rapid fire all of the leadership positions that would move to Pittsburgh and said he would put the name US Steel back on the building (in stronger language) - assuming he was referring to their iconic building that they sold and now has the name UMPC on all sides.
  10. You can listen to it in today's news conference where he mentions it. https://www.clevelandcliffs.com/news/news-releases/detail/665/cleveland-cliffs-to-host-press-conference-with-lourenco
  11. We remember there were supposed to be townhomes/condos (1990's?) on the site of the Singer Steel building (the parking garage where the TurnDev sign is next to the new build condo mid-rise).
  12. Uh-OH! Paging Governor DeWine you have been outplayed by rising star Governor Shapiro. Goncalves also said that he has the support of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro for such a bid, that he'd rename the entire company U.S. Steel and personally relocate to Pittsburgh. https://www.axios.com/2025/01/13/cleveland-cliffs-us-steel-nippon
  13. Per this story it seems those signs are just being refurbished in some way while there is a new electronic message board coming 9th/Carnegie. We love the news of the upper deck lighting: Salcer says similar to other new lighting schemes going on in downtown Cleveland, including at Playhouse Square, Progressive Field is adding uplighting under the seating in the upper bowl area. The rendering below shows alternating blue and red lights, although Salcer says any variance of color will be available.
  14. Pedantic yes, but mea culpa! Intended point is it is still an overlooked silver lining in that news story as he could have moved those much needed programs away from the Shaker Square area entirely.
  15. Quote was taken from the highly esteemed Plain Dealer - while the restaurant leases being vacated is bad news, the paragraph cited seemed like a silver lining for the Shaker/Buckeye/Woodland neighborhood: Edwins’ life-skills and child-care center, bakery and butcher shop – all located close to Shaker Square – will remain where they are. Chrostowski owns eight to nine buildings in that neighborhood; all are aimed at fostering the futures of people who go through Edwins. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2025/01/edwins-restaurant-leaving-shaker-square-to-move-into-nighttown-space.html
  16. They should start by returning a replica of the Lorenzo Carter cabin. Maybe call the park New Connecticut Park with some informational heritage signs describing the city as the capital (Cuyahoga City then Cleaveland) of New Connecticut or the Western Reserve. The heritage boards - as see at any National Park Service site - could convey the history and introduce the other Western Reserve towns, significance and their distance from the capital.
  17. Will be interesting how that law plays out and who will be the first test case. That law really snuck in under the radar, for us at least. Wonder who sponsored it and what triggered it.

Seems like the overseas plans for NFL teams are heating up such as London at new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. We wish Jimmy would copy the Populous design and rebuild around our exisiting stadium as done there - at least short-term until Burke opens up. The stadium is the first purpose-built for NFL games outside the U.S., featuring a retractable natural turf pitch that slides under the South Stand in just 25 minutes, revealing an artificial playing surface. This allows American football to take place during the Premier League football season without affecting the quality of the natural turf pitch. The stadium now hosts two regular season NFL games each year as part of an ongoing partnership between the league and Tottenham Hotspur. The system also offers ideal sightlines for American football by lowering the playing surface relative to the first row of seats, allowing fans to view the action over players and coaching staff on the sidelines. Add to that purpose-designed NFL locker rooms and other bespoke player, staff and media facilities, and the stadium has become a true home away from home for visiting NFL teams. https://populous.com/showcases/tottenham-hotspur-football-club btw when will Jimmy release the designs for the existing site? In their absence we are left to assume they must be amazing (just as the Vocon renderings done for Destination Cleveland are amazing). If they weren't he woud have released long ago to further support his fuzzy rationale to move to BP.

you were ahead of the news cycle - spot on!
  20. Perfect location for the business and new patrons, while the news say he is maintaining operations at Shaker Square (and now Playhouse Square) win-win-win: Edwins’ life-skills and child-care center, bakery and butcher shop – all located close to Shaker Square – will remain where they are. Chrostowski owns eight to nine buildings in that neighborhood; all are aimed at fostering the futures of people who go through Edwins.
  21. and DOGE pink slips? If any of the rumors pan out I hope Bibb and Ronayne lobby for some of the offices/jobs to be moved out of the DMV.
  22. New PD Opinion piece in favor of staying downtown: https://www.cleveland.com/opinion/2025/01/what-browns-fans-want-should-matter-and-thats-keeping-the-team-downtown-susan-mccauley-sadid.html
  23. True a county-wide stand-alone transit tax increase would die given recent RTA stewardship, but my intent to highlight Central Ohio's $8 Billion long-term plan was a wake-up everyone up of how we need to think big as the Plain Dealer Opinion piece indicated in terms such as via regional sale tax to address airport needs and sport infrastructure long term (and why not throw in homeless/social services and transit to help people swallow it). Central Ohio did us a favor meeting us a 8.0% now we can lead in one area at least and lead the State in increasing it to as high as 8.50%.
  24. We agree and also with the PD for once on their editorial this week that we need a regional approach for the airport and our coveted sports franchises (and please throw in social services and transit). Let's hold our noses and find a way for a regional sales tax increase to settle these needs. C-bus region just launched an $8 Billion transit plan (and other items) via their half percent cent sale tax increase. We need to be just as bold soon as we fall further behind our current peers, otherwise we will quickly fall to the next lower tier (where we will again be outdone by others in the that peer group like Grand Rapids). After voters approved a half-percent sales tax increase in November to fund the $8 billion LinkUS initiative, 2025 is shaping up to be a significant year for the Central Ohio Transit Authority. https://columbusunderground.com/2025-to-bring-new-sales-tax-new-bus-service-work-on-brt-line-bw1/
  25. Easy fix add year-round solar party light strings to neutralize this silly string of wires. Would help activate and and light up this alley for safety and maybe new uses? How do we turn this Only in Cleveland display into a fun and gritty positive. GE Nela Park any ideas?
