Cincinnati City Council
I just saw it during Letterman and I thought it was despicable. I actually gasped when I saw the ending with the fake gunshots all around the downtown skyline. I wasn't planning to vote for him to begin with but now I will also be telling others not to vote for him.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
And your reasoning that the plan was feasible before would be?? Is the feasibility of the lower density project the reason construction has been started?? The businesses are not just objecting to a 30 story tower they are objecting to the greater density of the overall project. The overall project is now going to be a lot more dense even without the 30 story tower. The increase in density will help increase the TIF base thus providing enough money to build the parking garages and other basic amenities that are required. Maybe if the project was planned with greater density from the beginning construction would have already been started...........

It is not a bad move if increasing the density is the only way that you can make the finances work.................

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
At the presentation the study group from HDR said three years from council's go to trains rolling. That would put the first train moving in 2010 if the plan continues to move. I'm not sure where that story got five years but nothing was mentioned of taking that long at the meeting. My guess is that what ever news source printed that blurb didn't do any research per usual and made up a year to dampen enthusiasm for the project.

^It's a shame most of that neighborhood information is very outdated. Most of the information shows statistics from 1990-1997. Can't somebody at City Hall update the info. There has to be more up to date info out there.

Cincinnati: A city of contradictions (Espn)
Unfortunately you are thinking on the small scale........Nobody outside of people who went to some specific school cares about what you are talking about let alone employers in the real world. It's nauseating for a reason.......it's sad that people think others care about high school anymore. It is very sad that people are so stuck in the past that they have to relive their high school days over again. It's called moving on and seeing the big picture. NOBODY CARES!!!! Especially employers!!! Now tell them you graduated from Harvard with a 4.0 and you'll get there attention. Tell them you graduated from Elder or St.X with a 4.0 and they will laugh and ask what you did in college!! And by the way, people aren't naturally attracted to people like themselves. Ever heard of the saying "opposites attract"?? When employers are looking to fill a position they are usually looking for someone that will complement what is already in place not be the same. All it is called is looking outside the small area that most people live and looking at the big picture.

Cincinnati: A city of contradictions (Espn)
jmecklenberg......aren't you assuming that the hiring person at whatever job you are applying for is from Cincinnati and also thinks on the small scale?? I highly doubt this is the case for most employers in the area. The majority are not form here, are looking for the best person for the job so putting what dumb high school you went to is really irrelevant, or they just think on a bigger picture and don't care. With the way the job market is today and the mobility of people today an employer can hire anybody from anywhere in the country. You will be competing with people not from here who actually don't waste the space on their one page resume with useless stuff like high school and put things they did to make them a better candidate. I guess this is a novel idea for some people in this city!!

Cincinnati: A city of contradictions (Espn)
I'm telling you, you are completely crazy if you think employers care about anything that happened to you in high school unless it specifically deals with the position you are applying too. I'm telling you this from experience of hiring people for positions, being around others who hire people and looking for a job myself. The only thing that happens in high school that is important is that you get great grades and participate in leadership roles so you look good to good colleges. If you think anything else that you did in high school is important then I ask you, no beg you, to take a step out of your small little world and see what the rest of the world has to offer. Exurbkid......please don't think for a second that what high school you go to is going to matter. If you mention what high school you went to in an actual job interview you will not be treated with reverence you will be treated and looked at like you are too immature for the position. Now, what college you went could make a difference........that is a different topic

Cincinnati: A city of contradictions (Espn)
I'm sorry but if you have your high school listed on your resume and you are applying for a job when you are close to finishing college or after college the following are probably true: 1) You do not know how to write a proper resume 2) You haven't had enough experience or extra curricular activities in your field of interest to impress the hiring manager 3) The hiring manager is at the very least inwardly laughing at you for putting a high school on the resume and at the very most will be throwing the resume away and not take you seriously

Why doesn't the renderings of The Banks that were released today show streetcars or streetcar tracks?? I would think that they were advised of the concurrent project being discussed and proposed??

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I like the plans but one question I have is the plans look like there will be 8 blocks developed and the rest will be parks. It looks like nothing will be built south of the current Roebling way (is that the right street, the street where the suspension bridge ends on the Cincinnati side). That means that the parking lots, Lot D, (the lot immediately east of Paul Brown Stadium) will be park. If that is the case how many blocks of garages need to be built?? 7-8 in my estimation?? Does it seem right that one block of garage would cost 10mil as the county suggests?? Also I think that there is entirely way to much park, especially if FWW gets capped into park. But that is minor considering the amount of development going on.

Cincinnati Enquirer
I came across this article from Seattle. They have two papers operating under a JOA similar to the Enquirer and Post. Think this could happen here?? P-I, Times settle JOA litigation By DAN RICHMAN AND BRAD WONG P-I REPORTERS Seattle will remain a two-newspaper town, at least for now. The four-year legal dispute between the Hearst Corp., the publisher of the Seattle P-I, and The Seattle Times Co. has been settled, the companies announced early Monday. Related content - Previous JOA coverage Under the settlement, announced on the day the two sides were expected to begin binding arbitration, Hearst will drop all legal claims against the Times Co. It will also give up a portion of future profits it had stood to receive if it folded the P-I, in exchange for a $49 million payment from the Times Co. P-I reporter Dan Richman can be reached at 206-448-8032 or [email protected].

I'm a little disappointed that we are getting a country bar instead of the Maker's Mark restaurant and bar that was originally discussed months ago. That would have been such a better fit for the area than a country bar!!

My wife works at the location on 4th and Vine. Yes, it's going to be a new location. That's good news!!! They will be right next to Dunkin Donuts one of Starbucks toughest competitions in the East.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Do you guys think the Starbucks on 4th and Vine will just be relocating to Fountain Square instead of a brand new store opening??? It wouldn't be unheard of for Starbuck's to be located so close to each other but that usually happens in cities with more populous downtowns.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Don't know if anybody else saw the square today but I walked by on my way home and there were a bunch of tables and chairs in the open area (between the fountain and 5th street). They were the chrome metal looking ones. Look nice to me and gives you plenty of room to sit and hang out. I wonder if they plan on leaving them out all night or are they storing them overnight.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I really could not believe my eyes when I saw that story on Channel 5's website. Might as well throw the Mallory's and Bortz's emails up there also to send emails to. Mallory has to start speaking up publicly about this crap and get everybody on the same page. He is supposed to be a "Strong" Mayor.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Why can't the county get on board with one thing the City is trying to do?? This seems to be counterproductive to all of the Streetcar work going on. Can't the County use the money they have set aside for this "system" to help fund the Steetcar?? Makes the most since to me. How about you guys?? CINCINNATI -- County leaders told News 5 the money for a new type of downtown mass transit is in place. Routes are being considered for a trolley system, officials said, which the city hasn’t seen since the 1950s. “When you think of cities that are on the go and on the move, you think of cities that have public transportation that is interesting,” said Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune. The trolleys would have rubber wheels, similar to the trolley cars now used during festivals and other events, and would not require special tracks or wires. Routes would connect riders to hotels, cultural attractions such as Music Hall and the Museum Center and Findlay Market, and major office buildings. “Parking in the city is a commodity,” said commuter Adrian Carter. “It’s hard to find and it’s expensive, so if it’s going to work, I’ll try it.” Not everyone is quite so enthusiastic. "I'm not sure it adds that much to the downtown by having a trolley system," said downtown worker Bob DelSanto. Officials hope to get government approval, purchase the vehicles and put them on the streets by the end of the summer. Copyright 2007 by WLWT.com. All rights reserved. Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Can you believe this BS??!!! From the Cincinnati.com politics blog.................. No Boston for Cincinnati? Mayor Mark Mallory's a little frustrated at what he sees is a holdup by some City Council members of the effort to replicate The Boston Gun Project in Cincinnati. The program, credited with reducing homicides in Boston in the mid-1990s, identifies gang-involved repeat offenders and puts them on notice that if they don't get out of the criminal life, officials will "pursue the longest amount of (prison) time in the worst place possible," the mayor said. Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney Jr.'s working out a contract with the University of Cincinnati, where policing experts will help. Subcontracts will be signed with the architect of the Boston project - David Kennedy, now at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City - and with Children's Hospital Medical Center. The hospital is the "neutral convener" of the all the parties involved and trauma surgeon Dr. Victor Garcia will be the chairman of the steering committee. He has been pushing to bring the Boston model here for years. Council authorized Dohoney to start working out the details March 14, but decided they didn't want to give the city manager a deadline. Councilman Cecil Thomas, chairman of council's Law and Public Safety Committee who brought the authorization measure to council, wanted the negotiations finished in the first week of April. Councilwoman Laketa Cole also asked that council see the contract and approve it first. Mallory is frustrated by those delays. He said Kennedy is close to pulling out of the deal and going instead to one of many other cities where people want him. The UC researchers need a couple of months to organize the program and identify the players before the actual street work - Garcia wanted that started by summer - can begin. Mallory told The Enquirer's editorial board this week: "I just need everyone to understand that we've got to move on here." Garcia acknowledged a "palpable frustration" growing within him and Kennedy. He offered this statistic: the average age of a gunshot victim seen at Children's: 12.9 years. posted by Jane Prendergast at 3/23/2007 04:02:00 PM 0 comments links to this post Looks like UO needs to start emailing Thomas and Cole and tell them to stop micro managing this. Everybody ran on a reduce crime platform but now the opportunity comes to actually fulfill that promise and they do everything they can to stop the progress of having their goal accomplished. Simply amazing!!!!
