  1. Just stopped by Lavomatic and they are putting on the finishing touches. They plan to open tonight, but it sure looks like they have a lot to do. We got a sneak peak inside to talk to them on Sunday, this place is going to be awesome. http://www.buycincy.com/flavor/2008/02/jeanroberts-lavomatic.html
  2. Yeah, my gf and I actually walked right into Nada last night for Valentine's. It was phenomenal and not as expensive as I thought it would be.
  3. OUTSIDE should be open in early Spring. Their stuff looks pretty cool and will mesh with the existing stores in the neighborhood. I will update once I know an exact opening date.
  4. Here is a rendering of Trinity Flats.
  5. That's good news about Mythos, I've always thought they would do well in the evenings.
  6. Because of construction delays, Lavomatic is now looking to open late Feb/early Mar.
  7. So, I scoped out Joseph Williams Home this past Friday, and I have to say I was really impressed. The furniture straddled the line between style and affordability quite well. They certainly have not made the same mistakes price-wise most contemporary furniture stores do or the same mistakes selection-wise most affordable places do. http://www.buycincy.com/2008/01/joseph-williams-home-preview-p.html
  8. This article from the Enquirer calls Bootsy Ruby's "soon to be announced." Maybe we could see an announcement before this spring?
  9. I'll be at the preview party for BuyCincy, so I'll be sure to come back and give first impressions.
  10. I sold my house in Covington in order to move into an apartment downtown. Once the streetcar is built, I would love to buy a condo along the line.
  11. And after we ask all the non-resident workers, we could then ask convention center visitors and those in town for the Reds game how we should spend the hotel/sales taxes they paid. The current plan, to my knowledge, does not use any sort of tax increase. A good portion of the funds will be from future property taxes along the streetcar line. I don't think too many workers will abandon their jobs in the city because, even though they are getting taxed the same amount as before, they don't agree with the financial decisions of a municipality.
  12. If I wanted to get back into school mode, I would go look up my notes on added lanes - but I believe the most recent study on this says that congestion would be equal on the new roadway within 5 yrs. At the cost, (economic, social and environmental) of new road construction, that is insane. You would have to build a new lane each way every 5 years to keep pace. .....or you could start a decent multimodal public transportation system and simply increase service frequency to meet demand.
  13. The Greater Cincinnati Restaurant Assn page has them as "closed." - http://www.dineoutoften.com/
  14. ^ They are big enough to have several large entertainment districts. If we could have several that size, it would be great - but right now just one that size is what we should be shooting for.
  15. ^ I haven't been to Potbelly's yet because I usually don't eat dinner before 7 anyway. Its such a weird time to close. Also, I bet if they decided to stay open past 4 on Saturdays, Saturday night would make up for it - the square has been absolutely packed with families since the ice skating opened.
  16. The robbery with the 10 and 12 year old scares the crap out of me. My apartment actually looks down at that intersection, and I probably cross it 10+ times a day, including last night right around that time. Oh wait, they said Race and 8th (and their map points to Race and 7th), that intersection doesn't technically exist. Whew!
  17. I am a current UC student, working only part-time and my girlfriend and I can already afford a studio apartment at 7th and Race currently (not having a car payment or insurance sure helps). I laugh at what my friends in NYC, Seattle, Portland, Denver and Charlotte pay per month for digs half as good as mine. And I would hate to think that I will not be able to afford to live where I currently live when I graduate next year and work full time.
  18. Cranley just lost my vote.
  19. So I finally got down to Graeter's tonight (after an excellent dinner at Via Vite) and was disappointed to find out that they close at 9. There was a group of about 20 people trying to get in at about 9:05 and couldn't. When I talked to the manager and mentioned that their press release (that was on Graeter's own site) said that they were open until 10, he said "oh the press always gets it wrong." They are planning to close at 9 during the week - and even on Friday and Saturday because their staff "has to catch the bus home." First, I ride the bus, and know a thing or two about the schedule...it doesn't stop at 9. Second, why won't the downtown Graeter's compete with those in the burbs and even the one in Newport by staying open until 10? It seems they aren't as supportive as they could be of the energy behind downtown nowadays. </rant>
  20. And the local shops in the gateway quarter = an economic windfall for the area. The chains are convenient and all, but not nearly as good for the city. We could really use a strong indie retail/food association that could band together and work with developers.
  21. We are a good football team.
  22. Yeah, Boloco (I refuse to call it Currito for no good reason) is pretty good. But its a different type of burrito. I could deal with both of them downtown.
  23. Rando, Watch out, or your westsider credentials are going to be revoked. Just don't let on that Boudinot is just like all the other LaRosa's and you might be OK. David, Before.
  24. As much as I like Chicago Gyros, nothing can touch Sebastian's on the West Side. Sooooo good.
  25. Cheryl, Even if the consultants that the city hired are completely wrong on the 15.2 to 1 return on investment and we get a return equal to the worst performing streetcar (9.2 to 1 on Little Rock's historic streetcar http://portlandtransport.com/archives/2006/05/the_economic_de_1.html), would that still be a poor investment? I, for one, am confident in Cincinnati's economic ability more than Little Rock's, but regardless I would love a 9.2 to 1 return on any investment of mine (say nothing of 15.2 to 1).
