  1. I'd assume Cleveland since the only railroad bridge I know of on Lake is the one by Don's Lighthouse Inn.
  2. It's the "collar county leeches". Tons of development in all these cities right on the edge of Cuyahoga County, where people can still enjoy a bunch of the big city amenities without helping to pay for them. I used to work with a couple people from Brunswick who would thank me for funding the Metroparks they loved to use but were glad they didn't have to pay for.
  3. You are only required to have paid at least the amount of tax you paid in the previous year by the end of the year, so I'd assume that the amount withheld from your salary plus 20% of your bonuses would get you to that.
  4. AC Hotels are different than Autograph Collection.
  5. We ate at Kiln a couple weeks ago and it was excellent. Doug came by and talked to us for at least 10 minutes and then moved on table by table just chatting with random diners. When we left, he was helping to run food out from the kitchen.
  6. Sure, but I've also seen the ugly of Detroit where it was way more down than Cleveland ever has been, even in their downtown. I'm not trying to bash them, though. Good for them if they're making a comeback. I'm just curious if this retail is sustainable. We have had bursts of unsustainable retail downtown like Tower City in the 90s, the 5th Street Arcades, and Geiger's, so I was just wondering if this was actually different or would end up like too many of these downtown retail pushes do. Also, I'm just being realistic about the seas of parking comment. Detroit has as much of a problem with that as Cleveland.
  7. Woodward does have a lot of nice retail that I wish we could attract (and keep) along Euclid Ave. I wonder how they are able to support it, or if it will be sustainable in the long run. Outside of that 3 block stretch of Woodward, though, there's just as many seas of parking as Cleveland, if not more.
  8. I don't know ridership numbers exactly, but the Green Line does have a couple stops with large parking lots, so it does seem to attract more park and ride than the Blue Line. There are also multiple bus lines that stop at either line. Unfortunately, I don't think there's enough TOD to really move the needle much on either line east of Shaker Square. Van Aken definitely has changed that somewhat, but I don't think as much as you'd think. Even the new high rise will likely be almost entirely people who park their cars in the garage and rarely if ever take the rapid anywhere.
  9. Haven't we all known this is exactly who Jimmy Haslam III is ever since the Pilot Flying J rebate fiasco?
  10. I find Giant Eagle's prices to be about the same as Heinen's, even with discounts included. Dave's, Aldi, and Marc's are certainly cheaper, though. Give me Heinen's any day, though, and not just because it's local. The produce is fresher, the service is better, the atmosphere is nicer. It's just a great grocery store.
  11. We usually shop at a suburban Heinen's, but were downtown recently and did our weekly shopping trip at the downtown Heinen's while we were there. I did not notice the prices being any different than at any other Heinen's. To double check this, I priced out a basket of goods at a suburban Heinen's (I picked Willoughby at random) and then at the downtown Heinen's and every single item was exactly the same price. Also, coincidentally, every item I chose also was in stock at both stores, although there were some extra size variations of some of them available at the Willoughby Heinen's. I was very happy with the shopping experience downtown and think many of the complaints I've seen are inaccurate and unwarranted.
  12. Unbelievable. I shut the game off in the top of the 9th, but my daughter asked me to turn it back on shortly after, so I did. There were 2 outs and nobody on and I told her there was no point, we were going to lose. She said we should watch anyway. I guess I need to talk smack more often.
  13. Worst owners in history of any sport ever?
  14. I get it's not at the same level, but we threw away two first round picks (Manziel and Gilbert), and then proceeded to ruin the season because Brian Hoyer, although he was playing well and started out 7-4, had to look over his shoulder every time he threw an incomplete pass to see if they would be putting Manziel in. After a 1 point loss to the Colts to drop to 7-6, we yanked Hoyer for good in favor of Manziel. The Browns then proceeded to lose 47 of their next 51 games. I'd say that was a bit of a franchise changer.
  15. This could have been written 10 years ago about Johnny Manziel as well.
