It definitely seems like there are more deer in urban areas recently and they also seem less afraid of people. I have seen them around CWRU in the city limits and the other day one slowly pranced across the street in front of my car around JCU, in no hurry to get out of the way. Also, this summer, on my way down to an Indians game on the Green Line there were about 5 deer just off to the side of Shaker just before Lee.
  2. If you like churches, there are a ton of architecturally amazing churches around Cleveland, especially the old Catholic churches. I highly recommend St. Colman, St. Stephen, and St. Stanislaus. There are many other beautiful ones, but those are the top three in my opinion.
  3. Street performances have been since ancient times. I fail to see how anyone could be bothered by them (especially those playing violins or trumpets). There's no comparison between a street performer and a beggar. Do you think MorrisonDance adds to the urban environment? By the way, no, you don't need a permit to be a street performer. "In the United States under Constitutional Law and most European common law, the protection of artistic free speech extends to busking. In the USA and most places, the designated places for free speech behavior are the public parks, streets, sidewalks, thoroughfares and town squares or plazas. Under certain circumstances even private property may be open to buskers, particularly if it is open to the general public and busking does not interfere with its function and management allows it or other forms of free speech behaviors or has a history of doing so." I think it's a shame that street performers get lumped in with agressive panhandlers nowadays.

I don't like Google Instant Search or whatever they call it. The Autocomplete box was good enough. It hardly saves any time when you're searching and often times causes odd behavior with the text box (like sometimes the autocomplete box doesn't go away after focus is lost and sometimes keystrokes are dropped). I'm all for new, innovativr features, and Google is usually great for that. But this feature causes problems and doesn't add hardly anything to the experience.
  5. And the worst part is that the one on Massaquoi was both spearing and hitting a defenseless receiver. He should be fined three times (spearing Cribbs, spearing Massaquoi, hitting Massaquoi as a defenseless receiver).
  6. That's whats mind-boggling to me....These are FEDERAL FUNDS he would be refusing! I know there will need to be some sort of subsidy to keep it up and running, but how much per Ohioan will that come out to be? About $1.50 per year per Ohioan. This is all about politics. There's really not a rational reason to oppose this, but Kasich and the Republican Machine have brainwashed their followers in order to have a "platform" to run on.
  7. I really think that if Kasich refuses this money from the federal government, he will go down in history as one of the dumbest politicians ever.

Thanks, buckeye1. Brant's is the only one I knew of. I was hoping for something a little closer (like Geauga County maybe), but it seems I may have to make a trek.

Where do you guys get unpasteurized cider? I would like to make a trip out to the boonies to get some as pasteurized is all I normally get to drink (from the grocery store so I have no choice).
  10. I think "useless tower of concrete" was its originally designed purpose, though.
  11. Checking the county auditor's website (like CBC suggested upthread) may give you a hit at whose fault it was, though. What does your billed tax amount say there?
  12. UH's ER isn't considered a Trauma Center. Rainbow is a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. Metro is the only Level I Trauma Center in Greater Cleveland (and is also a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center). (Fairview, Huron, and Hillcrest are Level II, St. John's West Shore and Southwest General are Level III.)
  13. I assume there's some specific criteria whereby 80% of the people in the country will be within x number of miles of a rail stop.

I hate my sister in law, is that the same thing? Do you need an anatomy lesson? :)
  15. Yep, ask Robert Smith. From what I've heard about Mike Bell (and the very limited amount of times I've seen him run the ball) he runs very similar to Peyton Hillis. He picks his spot early, cuts, and hits it hard regardless of whether the hole has opened up or not. I personally like this type of runner. They may not break off as many big runs, but they're much more likely to bowl ahead for 2 or 3 yards in cases where a finesse runner would be dropped at the line or even for a loss. He definitely seems to fit the traditional Cleveland Browns football mentality well.
  16. I agree he needed to be getting his feet off the ground more when he runs. It seemed he was running lazy this year and dancing around before he hit the hole more than last year. The play you're talking about though was hardly a huge hole. There was a small hole there, but I think he had to cut close off Steinbach to squeeze through it.
  17. It sounds like all he received was a verbal warning as well. But, thanks for the cleveland.com moment there. I do agree with the comment in that it is ridiculously hard to figure out what to do, especially since each rapid line has different rules.

I think you saw more of that in 2004 than in 2008, and it didn't work so well. It's hard to run on simply the platform that you're not the opposition.
  19. Games are also lost when you can't get more than a couple first downs in an entire game. See early 2000s Browns for reference.
  20. It looks to me as if the remaining houses on the other streets were built in the same era (early 1900s). It's just that the other streets seem to have more common wood-frame houses that are a dime a dozen in Cleveland, whereas Newton Ave. has craftsman bungalows, which people were more likely to want to preserve.
  21. Apple does have very nice video editing software. I do tend to like the look and feel and usability of their software, but I'm getting more and more disappointed with iTunes with each release. I don't like how they rope you in and then only let you play iTunes content on other Apple devices. That's even more B/S than Microsoft tries to pull. The software also feels like bloatware anymore. More and more I'm liking Google software. I just downloaded Picasa yesterday, and it's a nice "for dummies" photo organizer/editor. I just wish Google would make video editing software to rival the Apple software, which is definitely best in class (in the "for dummies" class at least) right now. I also do some basic video editing, and I don't want to pay the big bucks for and have to learn something complex. Apple releases information on security issues as well. Both OS's now make it very easy to update the software (Apple Software Update for Mac OS X and Microsoft Update for Windows), so users not updating shouldn't be as much of an issue anymore. What it comes down to is simply that 99% of all of the "bad guys" target Windows machines, since they by far are the largest user base (and especially in the business world). Most of the problems users experience on their computer (and what slows them down the most) is more spyware and malware than actual viruses. These must be installed through user interaction, so there's not too many things an OS can do to prevent it short of not allowing a user to even install software on their own computer. The hackers have spent years perfecting techniques to trick people into thinking they need to install their junk (or not even knowing they are installing it). This is similar to phishing websites, where users are tricked into "logging in" to what they think is a legitimate website, or entering credit card information, when in fact they are sending it to some other website that is doing bad things with their information. No OS can prevent this from happening (although IE now maintains a list of known phishing sites and warns users when they are sent to one). It requires the user to be aware of what they are doing.
  22. Great pics.
  23. Sorry, but if you run an .exe from an email b/c you think Bill Gates is going to send you $4 million from Kenya after you press F12 fifty times and forward the email to your closest 20 friends, you're probably also the type of person who will whine to me about how I need to come fix your computer for free b/c Windows sucks and your computer is running slow. Based on the posts on this thread, I don't think it applies to anyone here (and thus why I wasn't "personally insulting" anyone on the board.) The only personal insult directed at board members I've seen in this thread is someone calling me and Clevelander17 "pathetic." If there was a PC Thread where people were making wild unsubstantiated claims that Macs suck and crash all the time and run slower than Cecil Fielder, I'm sure the Mac fans on this board would be there to defend what they feel are perfectly good computers as well.
  24. I have 2 PCs and a Mac, and I like all 3. The Mac is easily the slowest of the 3 computers, but was the most expensive. There is no way your statement is true. The only reason there is this perception is because people who really don't know too much about using a computer end up with spyware and crap installed all over the place on their PC slowing it down and then blame Windows for it instead of blaming themselves for being dumb. There are very few viruses that propogate themselves (I have never gotten one and have only seen a couple on the hundreds of PCs I've repaired). Most were installed thanks to a user clikcing an ad and downloading some program from the popup or installing something out of an email attachment. If you see a mass exodus from PCs to Macs, you will also see the hackers and spyware coders targetting those machines instead of PCs. In this modern day and age of software and OSs, there is not much difference between the two, and certainly no reason Macs can't get viruses, malware, or spyware. Mac OS X is a great OS, but so is Windows 7. So enjoy paying for your Mac as an "exclusive club" while you can, but you probably don't want it to become too popular, because that is the point when you'll start getting crap installed on your machine.
