??? I know there's Thruway Motorcoach service available to connect Detroit and Toledo (which is run by Amtrak, so the schedules match up). It's not as ideal as a rail line directly connecting them, but it's far better than going through Chicago. Is this service new, maybe?

I have tried to go to Melt twice (I'm an east-sider, too), and both times the wait has been over 2 hours. I went at off-peak hours (around 3 pm) because I had heard there was always a wait, but sure enough, I still couldn't get in (I don't wait 2 hours to eat ANYWHERE).

You do realize that the 2008 GDP for the Cleveland MSA was higher (by about 7%) than the GDP for the Cincinnati MSA, despite MSA population estimates stating that the Cininnati MSA has a higher population, right? This is very difficult for me to do :P ; I agree with Gramarye's views on parochialism. I think buying local is great when it makes sense, such as for freshness of food or cutting down on shipping costs. But it's only one factor in deciding what to buy. Buying local as a principle seems like geographic discrimination to me.

Why should I care where the clothes I buy are manufactured, rather than how they're manufactured? What purpose does such economic nationalism serve? Also, how do you square your argument with the fact that its stated premise is wrong: manufacturing output has steadily increased in America notwithstanding the decline in the number of manufacturing jobs? Is there some God-given right to a $50k job just turning screws? Was that somehow slipped into the American social contract when I wasn't looking? You really extrapolated there. I was only stating the reason we have lost a lot of manufacturing jobs. It surely is a combination of technology and outsourcing. I didn't argue any of the other points you were "fighting" me on. I must really have you seeing red when you see my screen name! :)

Yeah, that pic is nothing compared to many women I see walking around. I definitely think it's the "MTV influence". Girls/women see it so much on TV they start to think it's just normal to dress that way.

Maybe the fact that Houston was "in favor" with the previous president of 8 years had something to do with their growth???
