Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Yeah, I find this story getting really strange. I found it strange to begin with, but if it really happened, then that's bad and the girl must be traumatized. If it didn't happen, however, she could be trying to cover for injuries and get an insurance claim for a window that is messed up at the same time. In stories like this, you hate to assume, because you look like a jerk if you're wrong, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a possibility.

Understood. The tone of your voice was lost over the wire somewhere and I mistook it. OK, I can understand where you're coming from there. The closer you get to the bridge on Euclid the sketchier it gets. I just took some exception to what seemed like you lumping all of University Circle into the "bad neighborhood" category. I know there's crime in UC, but there's crime everywhere. It seems like we've reached the point where after a crime in the city happens, you're an alarmist if you say there's too much crime, and an apologist if you insist the neighborhood is still great. The reality is probably somewhere in the middle. I think people just like to take sides and a stance. I feel in UC, it leans more towards, "pretty good neighborhood that could use a little work in cleaning up some crime". I would apply this to any other areas surrounding University Circle (except up the hill into Cleveland Heights).

Internet stalking? You're the one that followed me around the internets. Thanks to your tip, I found out you were over on city-data. So, in the last two years, you think University Circle has become much less safe? Or you had a recent epiphany? Or you just hate people at Urban Ohio and like to give us a hard time?

I do agree, but I think he overcompensates in the opposite direction, which is just as bad.

Didn't you use anecdotal evidence to try to scare everyone? Yes, but I wasn't trying to scare anyone. You people just needed someone to come along and post something you agreed with so you could ignore my post. We can turn to statistics, if you'd like. I don't know what we'd be comparing, however. "You people"? I would be willing to bet the statistics for crime in University Circle are similar to the national average, which makes it a relatively safe urban area. What do you know!?!?!?! It looks like you agree with "us people"! http://www.city-data.com/forum/cleveland/331016-so-exactly-how-dangerous-around-cleveland.html

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
That stuff is overpriced and not that good IMO. For a similar price, Souper Market is far better. The only time I've been to Zoup, my meal came to $11 for a bowl of soup, a half sandwich, chips, and a drink. My soup was OK, but surely nothing special. If I'm going to spend $11 on lunch, I'm going to go to a decent restaurant, not a fast food place to get soup and a wrap. Speaking of Souper Market, are they still planning on opening a location downtown?

Yeah, bring the poor 4's back, Hts!

Shaker Heights, Solon best highschools in Cleveland area for national merit.
It was because somebody messed up and never turned in the paperwork for a student on the football team who would have otherwise been a legal transfer.

Isn't Gilmour a boarding school (or at least a portion of the student body)?

So what explains suburbs like Westlake, which have on average very stable households and >75th percentile household incomes, not cracking the list (and in some cases not having a single NMSF)?

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
I have always been a Cavs fan because I love basketball. Even when they had Jon Krotty, Cedric Henderson, Chris Mihm, or Vitaly Potapenko.

No, that's wrestlers.

I only started watching the NBA after witnessing the splendor of basketball during the Summer Olympics a couple years ago.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
When he opened B Spot and Bar Symon, I thought "I hope he doesn't over-saturate, but at least they're all unique." Then he opened B Spot and Bar Symon in the Q and I thought, "I hope he stops there, and at least it'll be nice having these options downtown plus he'll get great exposure being at the Q." Now I'm thinking, "what suburb location is he going to open ANOTHER B Spot in next and how long until he can't personally keep an eye on all of them and they're run like Max & Erma's?"

But that is my point, too. I am afraid he is going to turn it into into a standard-fare chain. Most chains start out good and the quality suffers and uniqueness factor goes away as more locations open in more and more bland areas. I don't want that to happen, because I actually like the B Spot and the last thing I want to see it turn into is Red Robin II.

There is no 43121, but there is a 45121. So now, Hts121 can move to a hill in Georgetown, OH and not have to change his screen name.

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
Then why is Football more popular than both. And why is soccer not as popular as any of the sports mentioned in this thread? On a global scale, it's the most popular sport in the world. Me asking this question does not = me hating the NBA. That's just silly. We're talking about the US, right? I addressed my "hate basketball" comment already. Now can you address my "TV viewership affecting attendance" comment?

OK, you fooled me (I still don't see why it would be crazy, though. lol?). I know a few hockey fans and they all hate basketball with a passion so I was probably making some assumptions. You mean the fact that you can watch the NBA on network television in HD (and many more games on TNT and ESPN) isn't a possible reason for people choosing to not want to pay to go to games?
-
NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
Hands down hockey is the better sport? Is that a fact or your opinion? You see, I hate hockey. I don't know how to skate and I don't watch very much hockey because it bores the hell out of me. But at least I understand that if I did know more about hockey and played it myself, I would probably be much more interested in watching it and think of it more highly as a sport. Just because you (I assume) don't or haven't ever played competitive basketball means that you won't find the sport as interesting or understand the intricacies of it as much as someone who has.

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
The NHL is coming off of a near-death experience (the 2004-5 lockout)--of course its attendance is rising. The NBA is a stronger league that is being affected by the economy. I'd love to go to a Cavs game, but I'm not going to shell out $300 for a seat that is half way up the seating bowl. You don't have to. Just go to stubhub and buy them at $12 and up. ;) http://www.stubhub.com/cleveland-cavaliers-tickets/ Btw, a Penguins fan will have to shell out more for a ticket than a Cavs fan. This shows it depends on the city. The ranges for Penguins tickets don't go nearly as high. Even for the playoffs. Maybe in basketball it's more important to see the details of the action so the nosebleeds are much less desirable, whereas in hockey it's hard to see the damn puck anyway so people don't care where they're sitting so much (I'm joking). By the way that $12 ticket is a single ticket in the 2nd to the top row of the worst section in the building (upper deck behind the basket) against a last place team (the Pacers). You're going to pay a lot more than that for a halfway decent seat where you can sit next to somebody you know, even against a bad team. We get it. You love hockey. You hate basketball. You're biased. That's fine. Just enjoy your hockey games and stop trying to pick a fight.
