  2. See we're at opposite ends of the spectrum. I like homes built before 1925-45 and a few mid century mod homes. These "modern" homes, IMHO, seriously lack the interior details you would find in homes in the 20' & 30's. I like homes with "character". I agree. I think some of these modern townhomes are becoming cookie cutter and bland in their own way. Also, they feel too utilitarian and almost brutalist to me. I actually think the Battery Park townhomes are an improvement on most modern townhomes, but they still have a little of that feel to me.
  3. You pervert! I was talking about the plural of cajón! :P
  4. I like hot food, but at the point you can't even eat it, it has to be more of a "my big cajones" thing than enjoying the food.
  5. Doubtful, it would seem that the point is the preaching. I agree with MayDay, but Ram23, agree with it or not, you must have missed the point.
  6. At least one of those crimes you reported, R&R, happened on W. 14th St. If you look at the map over the last 30 days, there have been two vehicle thefts in the area west of W. 25th St. and that's it. Most of those crimes you posted were closer to Tremont than the neighborhood in question. I don't know enough to say whether it's a bad neighborhood or not, but it doesn't seem to have much more crime than the heart of Tremont.
  7. I don't think it's really a good argument to vote down Issue 3, but it is true that it will most likely adversely affect these other establishments. Unless we see a huge influx of tourism (which I don't see happening since casinos are much more common now than they used to be) we will simply see a thinning of the money being spent. Of course you can go to the casino sometimes and the bar others, but you won't be able to afford to go to the bar as often as you used to if you're blowing money at the casino some nights. Again, although I agree with the factuality of the claim, I don't see this as a good argument for being against the issue. There are many other more valid reasons to be for or against it. Also, is Dan Gilbert going to build the sunset in that picture along with the casino?

"Welcome to Costco, I love you."
  9. No, a win is not a win this early in the season. There is nothing to build upon after that abomination.
  10. Hey, that sounds just like Columbus! Risk? I didn't feel it was a risk, I looked at it as I would look at any neighborhood I was not familiar with. Why do you think it was a "risk"? Because its a minority neighborhood that isn't "hip", "trendy", "on the northside"? I ask that with all seriousness. I was going with what you said above. "Why were people trying to sell me crack, coke or themselves, this about 1 PM. I was like, WTF. at that point I put my camera in my bag. As a 6'4" black and latin man, my street terror alert went straight to orange! This area was disgusting and all I could think was how blessed I am. I would have taken pictures, but two dudes walked up on me. When I asked them Why TF are you following me, they crossed." That is all. I don't consider it a risk. I knew where I was going. I took the same approach as I would in any neighborhood I've never been before. I would stop, look at something, walk, stop look at something, they knew I wasn't from the area. I knew they were following me for 5 blocks (store windows and car windows are a great way to watch your back without tipping folks that are watching you, that you're watching them ;) ). I never felt threatened, but I needed to exercise common sense. I think you're backtracking, MTS. You obviously felt threatened if your "street terror alert went straight to orange". The people weren't following you because they wanted to invite you to have tea.
  11. Bengals 35, Browns 9
  12. I have had gourmet Mexican food. I have never had gourmet fast food, Mexican or otherwise. I don't think there is such a thing.
  13. And you guys thought I was nuts when I predicted we'd go 4-12 this season...now that looks optimistic.

I eat there all the time, and nobody I have ever been there with has ever gotten sick. In fact, I don't know if I've ever been there where anyone else hasn't enjoyed the food. It's nothing fancy, but it's just good.
  15. Although Mentor is the largest municipality in Lake County, I think many people view it as a bedroom community, one big suburb. But I think it has the remnants of an old downtown area, plus, as you indicate, the Garfield Home, Lawnfield. For an added bonus, one can visit the Great Lakes Mall, where I was one of the original mall rats (before the term was coined) back in the late 60's. If Mentor had a downtown, I would be all over it. Where are these remnants? to be perfectly honest, I'm not really sure. I think it's somewhere around the Garfleld Home, on Mentor Avenue. I'm not sure the term "downtown" would even apply. It was more a collection of storefronts with a stoplight that had comprised the original center of business for Mentor when is was a rural-ish outpost and Painesville was the nearest "big city" (lol) over a hundred years ago. I just remember an old-time Italian restaurant along that stretch back in the 60's. I haven't been back to that area for ages, but by now any original buildings have probably been subsumed by sprawl (or, as a one time friend of mine from West Virginia would say when referring to the oases of fast food culture one encounters along the turnpike, "every chicken shack and rib joint you can think of.") Mentor's "downtown" was centered around Mentor Ave. and 615 (Center St.). There are still some old buildings in the area (including the old elementary school now converted into lofts, and many aren't preserved or restored or were butchered with renovations), but there are also many new ones and the area has a very suburban feel. Also, a little east on Mentor Ave. around Little Mountain Rd., there is another older section (not as old as around 615 which contains some Victorians) with a couple rows of stores right up on the sidewalk with parking behind, a rarity for Mentor. I actually am not even sure all of them are still there, I think I recall some of the businesses going under and talk of razing the buildings. There certainly isn't much of a concentration of old buildings giving anything a downtown feel, however, like a Willoughby or Chagrin Falls.
  16. So 3:30 pm will be the last trains departing Columbus???

    You work for MTS? :)
  18. The idea. I'm biased, as I'm a "city" guy. I couldn't live in the exuburs, countryside, etc. Like I mentioned before, I'm a city guy, too. That's why I'm gravitating toward the Nevada desert. Somewhere 30 minutes outside LA. 30 Minutes?? LA is very spread out. I think you mean 3 hours outside of LA. Nah, it's 30 minutes. I know my geography, MTS, and I know folks who live out there. :) I live there. Please tell me where exactly this oasis is, 30 minutes outside of LA? Maybe he means by helicopter????
  19. I finished cleaning up my posts last night. If there's any way I can help on other threads, let me know. (On threads I was cleaning my own posts, I reported posts to moderator if I saw any full articles around mine.)
  20. They got the logo in place this afternoon.
  21. This guy makes my 4-12 prediction look optimistic: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/09/01/main/index.html?eref=sihpT1
  22. I love the Browns and will watch all 16 games, but I predicted 4-12. :(
