  1. Yes, probably. But that's the point, it's not a nice sit-down meal prepared by a chef and plattered. It's mass-produced items in chafing dishes doled out onto paper plates. So if you go there expecting a great meal, you're going to be disappointed. If you go there (as I do) with the expectation that you're going to a big outdoor fair-style party, you'll be very happy with the food offerings. It is great for what it is.
  2. I usually think that (and having a wife that makes excellent homemade sauce and refuses to use anything but handmade noodles, I've become quite the Italian food snob), but I actually got some pretty decent food there this year (Presti's raviolis and Anthony's gelato). Yes, it is overpriced, and it's by no means the best food (not even the best the restaurants serving the food have to offer), but it's still a good time. I felt that the attendance was down a little this year (based on Friday night and Sunday afternoon observations). Although it did seem that there was more activity on Murray Hill Rd., so maybe the people were just spread out a little better.

    Actually, I believe the term originated in reference to Mexicans (from crossing the Rio Grande). Speaking of which, the documentary (Wetback: The Undocumented Documentary) was pretty good. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/wetback_documentary/

    Wetback = Best? :)
  6. I agree...I am bothered by the premise that Ohio will only benefit from rail so much because it is becomeing older and poorer. This would seem to indicate that if we were able to reverse Brain Drain and keep more young educated people around, then we wouldn't have a need for rail. KJP, you make so many other great arguments for rail. Please don't make this one of All Aboard Ohio's talking points.
  7. My response was directed at eyehrtfood as well, even though I forgot to directly address him or her like Doc.

    ODOT analysis: Traffic is bunched up at the traffic light and not moving at optimal speed. Another lane must be added.
  9. If you go on a Friday night, expect quite a crowd (actually almost too much of a crowd, I'm one of the people who has fun at the Feast, but likes Little Italy 100 times more when the Feast ISN'T going on).

    Your #2? WSM, Great Lakes Brewing Company, E. 4th, depending on what you want to do. If you're looking for local beer and have never had Great Lakes, you MUST head over there (and you'll be right across the street from WSM). If you have had Great Lakes and want to try something else, I second the recommendation for Indigo Imp.

    Hey, my Dad had one of those! They were ok back in the 80's...now not so much! LOL "suburban parent culture"....so what is the stereo-type of the 'urban parent' culture? No parents at all? I loathe a lot about the burbs, but really! without speaking for Jam, I took him to mean the "mini van driving - soccer mom" type of suburbanite parents. ...too into living vicariously through their kids athletics, bragging, blaming every academic failure of their kids on the teachers. Trust me, I've seen both sides. Of course not everyone is like that, but there is a big culture of overactive, overprotective parents in the far-out suburbs. If you doubt that, you haven't had to spend enough time dealing with it.

    Back to pet peeves... "My child is an Honor Student at..." bumper or window stickers on the back of cars. I haven't seen too many recently, but I noticed one today on a minivan and it reminded me how many things I hate about the "suburban parent" culture.

    Lawd... So is that you as Quick Draw McGraw or Tim McGraw? Eliot Ness (the label from the Great Lakes beer).
  14. I think Dolan is strapped for cash and hasn't handled things well. However, I don't think we can just say Gilbert would be amazing at owning the Indians. He was given Lebron. He would have had to try hard to keep people from coming to games. I do think that Dolan tried and failed. He made some poor decisions, but some of it was beyond his control (like giving Westbrook and Hafner big contracts and then they both get hurt/suck right afterwards). Keep in mind we were very close to going to the world series two years ago before all this happened. I also thing Wedge is to blame for part of our downfall, as he makes some (IMO) very poor coaching decisions and doesn't seem to have the team prepared coming out of Spring Training.

    I would love to be there, but unfortunately I'll be in DC that weekend (Thurs through Sun). One of these days I'll actually make an UO Happy Hour.

    All he'll gather from that magazine is that he should move to Richfield.

    There are parts of Cleveland that are in the Shaker Heights school district (around and south of Shaker Square). However, although you do pay Cleveland income taxes, you pay a property tax rate similar to Shaker Heights (since they collect the school funding out if it, which is a large part of property taxes).
  22. Yes, membership at the Downtown YMCA gives you access to any other YMCA within a 50 mile radius. (I used to be a member.)
  23. Which, incidentally, is a nicer place (plasma TVs and such) since the new owners put some money into it (and renamed it Forti's).
  24. That was great, KJP.

    I believe it's where Cafe Marika used to be (E. 156th and Waterloo).
