Do we need or do we already have a Crime and Punishment thread?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I'm not so sure about that. All murders are obviously horrible crimes, but I think there's a difference in level of guilt and danger to society between someone killing someone that raped or killed one of their family members as revenge (still wrong, but different) than someone who randomly kills an innocent person on the street or shoots up a college campus. I do agree that in regards to crimes of this magnitude, however, that people have given up their right to live their life as they please and have delegated it to the state to decide how to ensure that they don't have the opportunity to endanger society again. If this was how punishment worked, you would see these types of crimes completely reduced to the people who have absolutely no regard for even their own life, and in turn those people would be removed from free society.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
It has been shown that sexual offenders are the hardest (or nearly impossible) to rehabilitate. Are there any ideas for how to apply punishment and future prevention fitting of the crime committed? Are there ways to incapacitate their reproductive urges or capacities without being cruel and unusual?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Rape is "unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury". If this can be shown (the threat), then it fits the definition of rape, and thus would be a "forceable rape". If it's not forceful, then it's a marital issue that needs to be resolved. Withholding sex is grounds for divorce as well. Both are much different than holding a knife to a complete stranger. It doesn't justify him using it against you for sex, but it doesn't justify you in accepting the "transaction", either. This sounds more like blackmail on one end and prostitution on the other than rape. Yes, also rape. They forced themselves upon someone incapable of resisting. There's also the fact that the victim should probably make better choices, but it of course doesn't excuse the perpetrator. I think that as long as we lump all rapes together, equating a violent rape of a complete stranger with a poor decision while drunk later regretted, we will be reluctant to come up with a punishment that fits the crime for the most serious cases.

I partially agree. If a male is stronger than a female or has drugged her or something, then it can be forceable rape without a weapon. But I think that basically there is forcible rape and "giving in". If it's not forceable, how can it be rape? Forceable rape should carry EXTREMELY stiff penalties.

Relocation assistance for work: From Boston to Cleveland
No, I have definitely seen stats that put our average commute under 30 min. (I believe I saw 27, not 25, but I could be wrong.) Cleveland commutes are definitely shorter than many due to factors such as less traffic and better public transit than many other cities. For a counter-example to your example, I have a 12 minute commute to work by bike (5 min by car).

Relocation assistance for work: From Boston to Cleveland
It is a long commute, but you may find others that work with (or near) you and live near you and work out a carpool agreement. It may not happen right away or even work every day, but it's a good alternative to taking the bus every day.

Relocation assistance for work: From Boston to Cleveland
I would definitely say you should try to carpool or ride the bus at first at least to see if it's feasible. For the few days or so, you could rent a car until you're comfortable with the new job/are/finding transportation. Then make the decision. You will save A LOT of money if you can do without a car (think insurance, gas, maintenance on top of the cost of buying or leasing the car). If it's not possible (or worth it) then get one, but it'd definitely be worth investigating all of your options first.

Metro Cleveland: Road & Highway News
I think a lot of it has to do with the Innerbelt Bridge. A lane has been cut down and I know someone who lives in Strongsville and works downtown. They take 480 to Jennings to 490 to 77 to avoid the bridge. I'm betting that the causes of traffic flowing smoother from Strongsville are due to a combination of the downtown population increase, some loss of jobs, an increased RTA ridership, many people avoiding the Innerbelt Bridge due to safety concerns and thinking traffic will be bad on it due to the loss of a lane, and the fact that I-71 has been widened to 3 lanes south of Pearl Rd. now.

Relocation assistance for work: From Boston to Cleveland
It's too bad the 239 doesn't backhaul riders from downtown to the Euclid Park N Ride in the mornings and vice versa. Maybe you could work out a deal with RTA? Which part of Tungsten is the job on? There are two Tungstens, one between Chardon and E. 222, and the other over by E. 260. Both have industry.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
The building sits on an angle, it's hard to say what's east and west of the building. It bugs me just as much when people say the Northeast Quadrant of Public Square. The roads through the square run pretty much at 45 degree angles to the cardinal directions. If anything, the quadrants are simply North, South, East, and West.

Is it also possible that Marinescapes is able to cram "more aquarium" into a smaller footprint with their "super tube" design or whatever they call it?

Denver (2008) won the award for the same category we did (over 30 million passenger trips per year).

Positively Cleveland
Speaking of Burning River Pale Ale (and I'm probably going to show how infrequently I go to Progressive Field), I went to an Indians game recently and Burning River, previously only available at the Batter's Eye (I believe), is now sold in at least one stand (located near Section 170) and I also bought one from a vendor coming down the aisle (he was yelling "Corona and Great Lakes!" and was selling Corona, Dortmunder, and Burning River). It's $7 from a travelling vendor, and $6.25 from the stationary ones, both for a 12 oz. bottle poured into a cup. Quite a deal when you consider that the pisswater beers are $7 for 16 oz.

help for 1st time chicago visitor
Thanks everyone for the help. We had a great time in Chicago and took many of your suggestions. I was a little lazy with my camera (I'm not the best photographer anyways, and when I'm enjoying myself often times I don't have my camera or I forget to snap some photos) but I did take some decent shots here and there, so when I get some time I'll post them.

When was your dwelling built?
The suburban boom was mostly in the 1950s and surely included Ohio (around Cleveland think Wickliffe, Willowick, Mayfield Heights, Parma, Garfield Heights, etc.).

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Not to mention that over 5 million people live in Northeast Ohio alone. Sure, Atlanta has this many in the metro area, but how many other people are there in Georgia that are Hawks fans and actually can or do attend games. The same goes for many other cities. Cleveland is surely not a "small market team".

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Speaking at least for me, the small town stops do little or nothing psycholocgically to make the ride feel slower (I actually think they make the ride feel more interesting for some reason). What makes the ride feel slower (and actually does make it slower) is sitting for 30 minutes waiting for a freight train to clear the way, or actually backing on to a side track to let another train pass.
