Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Agreed, I think one single-use for the entire ground floor (especially if that use were simply showrooms for the medical mart), would be the biggest killer for street life in that section of Euclid. Multiple street-level business will bring far more pedestrians to the area, and still leave plenty of contiguous building space for other uses. We already have reached that milestone with the Tequila Ranch mechanical bull.

Moving to Cleveland in July
FYI: The rental house on Edgewater just dropped to $1350/mo. They are obviously having trouble renting it, so if it is getting closer to your price range and you like it, you may want to bargain with them.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
Bases loaded with nobody out and we don't score a run. I know it was a great play to double up Carroll and bad luck Choo didn't get 2 RBI out of that liner, but that's just the story of the Indians offense this year.

Cleveland Suburb of Solon
Actually, your children will get a good education pretty much anywhere if you are a good parent and they have the will to learn. But in Solon, they will be going to school with a higher percentage of children who fall into that category.

Who's NOT to blame for $4 gas
And even if the information available is perfect, that doesn't mean perfect consumer knowledge or use of that information. Who could be an expert in EVERY field and product available anyways? This scenario happening (which is the crux of pure Capitalism) is about as realistic as expecting pure Communism to work.

Gas Prices
Hopefully it takes long enough to happen that we will have reinvested in more responsible forms of transportation and the government has divested much of its interest in roadways. And hopefully they also will learn from their mistakes the last time.

How very true, it's well worth the trip. Also, they have a stand at Huntington Beach. By far the best ice cream around.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
There is no doubt some neighborhoods are more dangerous than others, but I think people almost always greatly exaggerate how dangerous they actually are. To say that it "would be a surprise" if someone walked down a street and didn't get mugged is quite out of touch with reality. It may be more likely to happen than in other areas, but the percentage is still low. It's not like you have even a 5% chance of it happening on any one occurrence of walking down even the worst street, let alone the 75% chance or whatever it would take to fall into the "surprised it didn't happen" category.

I'm not sure what you mean by that statement, but I don't think I agree. What changes? And why would they be more difficult for one race than another? Say white people move to Chinatown/Asian Village, Fairfax or Hough, they aren't usually accused of "bring down the neighborhood" but of cleansing it of its "character" (ie gentrification). Yet if a Black person moved to say LI, (I'm generalizing) or Parma Hts., people would be concerned that "there goes the neighborhood". Granted in neighborhoods where there is a mix of people, ages, races, it can happen as well. I have a cousin who lives on Daleford (in Shaker). Over the winter a new family moved in, they are from the westside, as it started to get warmer, the family kids would leave toys on the lawn or in neighbors lawn or the kids would run on other peoples property. Over memorial day, they had their music blasting so my cousin went over to talk to them about how things run on their street. They weren't used to that where they came from and, from what my cousin told me, they were slightly offended when first approached, but now "get" why the neighborhood is so nice. I know the attitudes may be different in the two cases, but I think the hostilities and lack of personal safety faced in both cases would be similar. This is a safety thread, not one about race, after all. (I would be about the last person on here to disagree with you that there are still WAY too many racial issues in this country.)

From everything I have heard, 10 hour days (and sometimes weekends) are the norm at Hyland Software anyways.

Well, I hope they give my wedding guests the completed rooms. :) We couldn't beat the location, being right across the street from the reception. As far as sheer beauty, the Renaissance lobby will always top them all.

Water: Our Secret Weapon
I agree about the length of winter...a month less or so would be perfect (but a well-timed week long vacation to Florida in February/March certainly helps). But, hey, I'll take what we got over the boredom of 72 and sunny all year round ala San Diego (and most people will call me crazy for that). And, yes, when I was in Florida or Christmas one year, we went to see a Christmas light display that the local paper was raving about. It just didn't seem right in the 75 degree heat. (I prefer the simple decoration better anyway, such as a snow covered pine tree with limited color bulbs on it).

I agree that Little Italy can be uncomfortable for African-Americans. While in college and walking through there with a friend, he had some racial slurs tossed at him by a couple of teenagers from the hood. Overall, though, it's ridiculous to say it's like a white person walking down Woodland. The racial issues may exist in both places, but beyond that, the extreme poverty and much higher crime rate on Woodland should make it far scarier for people of ANY race.

NE Ohio: University Hospitals Developments (Non-University Circle)
^^No doubt, as is pretty much anything older in Mentor. The strip of older stores (I'm guessing 40s or 50s) on Mentor Avenue out by Little Mountain Rd. is pretty much completely empty now. I remember going to a neat little hardware store there when I was little (lived in Mentor from birth to 12 years old). Also, I attended Center Street Elementary for a short time. It's funny to see it being converted into condos now. This definitely has to be the furthest out Progressive Urban Real Estate has ventured. ^Yeah, that location is abysmal. I remember how they were touting how spin-off would occur on Vine Street. Sure hasn't happened. Downtown Willoughby would have been perfect (maybe just north of 20). Anyways, back to the Hospital I suppose, before we get yelled at...

Water: Our Secret Weapon
I always hear people rave about the weather in Sunbelt states. Having relatives in Georgia and Florida, I can tell you that I absolutely like our weather here better. I enjoy all 4 seasons. When they come up in the winter, they are fascinated by snow. When I go down there in the winter (especially around Christmas and New Years Day), it just doesn't feel right for it to be 60 or 70 outside. And when I go down there in the summer, when it's 94 and humid EVERY DAY and nobody even wants to go outside, I'm really reminded of why I love Cleveland's weather. By the time the warm Spring weather rolls around, there's nothing like the excitement it brings when you're just itching to get outside. They never get that in the South, they just get tired of the "too hot" weather. I think it's definitely a "grass is greaner" thing for many Northerners.

I'm not so sure their other properties look cookie-cutter, but I do understand your concern. Even though they all were somewhat unique, they did seem to be more "tropically-themed" and bright than what would fit the Breuer Tower well.
