Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
What % of Cleveland's workers come from outside of the MSA? If I understand correctly, your stats only show what % of Cleveland MSA workers work inside and outside of the Cleveland MSA.

Here's a case from 2017 showing that railroads still pay property taxes in South Carolina at the very least. https://home.kpmg.com/us/en/home/insights/2017/03/tnf-fourth-circuit-railroad-challenge-to-south-carolina-property-tax-returned-to-lower-court.html

10-5-1, here we come! (And if you buy that, I'll also bet you the under on the Cavs winning 76 games.)

I forgot about that play. We should have taken the 3 points anyway. Hue's desperate, and it shows in his coaching.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I agree. Although a couple calls may have been questionable, we had a ton of dumb, clear penalties. Also, the reception/fumble play was not a fumble by NFL rules. I don't like the rule, but it says that you not only have to secure the ball and come down on your feet, but then make a football move before it can be a fumble. The receiver caught it, his two feet came down, but then it was knocked loose just before he tried to make a move. By definition, this is an incomplete pass. I think the rule should just be "ball is secured, receiver has two feet down," but then my beef is with the rule and not the officials. Regardless, we had opportunities that we blew and made a lot of mistakes. I think that a 4th and goal QB sneak was a terrible call. Try again to punch it in with Chubb or roll Mayfield out and throw to Njoku or something. EVERYONE saw the sneak coming. Also, remember that we wouldn't have even gone to overtime had the Bucs' kicker not missed both an XP and a short game winning FG.

Maybe we'll make the playoffs this year. Maybe Baker Mayfield will be the savior of the Browns. Maybe our defense will be awesome. Maybe Jabrill Peppers will return kicks for TDs left and right. Maybe our receivers will be good this year. Maybe we won't get so many dump penalties at inopportune times. Maybe we won't keep snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Maybe we won't find new ways to lose every week. Nope. The Browns are still the Browns.

I had Jeremy's response in mind when I wrote that, but I doubt you'd appreciate it if someone replied the way to you the way you did to troeros.

New UO site design suggestions
I don't want to come across as ungrateful, because I know a lot of hard work goes into keeping this forum running, and I really appreciate that. But I have to ask what the reason was for changing the forum software. To me, it seems like a downgrade, especially in usability on mobile. Also, the new software isn't free like the old software, correct?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I don't think there was any panic in that question. It's fair to ask why crime is on an uptick (and it does seem to be this year) when that is not happening in other nearby cities. People should be allowed to make reasonable posts without getting attacked.

Also a silver lining...Nick Chubb proved that he is REALLY FAST.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Correct, and I have no problem with them being separate MSAs. The only thing I like to point out is that the arbitrary boundaries (county lines) cause Cleveland's MSA to lose Cleveland suburbs to the Akron MSA, where the opposite is not true. This causes Cleveland's MSA to look smaller than the metro area really is and inflates Akron's numbers. I am not sure why we don't use the "urbanized area" definitions posted above that seem to be much more reflective of actual metro area.

Ohio High School Football: General News & Discussion
It's always hard to tell with Maple Heights because their regular season schedule isn't very tough, but it does seem that they could have a chance to do some damage in the playoffs this year.

FiveThirtyEight heavily uses data from previous seasons, especially towards the beginning of the season. If we keep winning, our rating on that site should rapidly rise.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
I disagree. I think both are viewed as Cleveland suburbs (especially Streetsboro) with a little Akron influence.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Thanks for linking to that site, Pugu[/member]. I actually found the most interesting dataset to be Distance/Direction using the radar map. Using that, you can see that *nothing* in the Cleveland MSA other than Wadsworth has any significant pull towards Akron, and in fact nearly every city within but bordering the southern edge of the Cleveland MSA pulls almost exclusively in the direction of Cleveland. However, nearly every city in the Akron MSA bordering the Cleveland MSA also pulls heavily towards Cleveland. What surprised me the most was that even Cuyahoga Falls, Peninsula, and Bath all have a nearly even split between commuters traveling into the Cleveland area vs. towards Akron. Copley was the first point at which I hit a true Akron suburb with very little pull towards Cleveland.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Thanks, DEPACincy[/member], the urbanized areas look pretty accurate to me with the Akron/Cleveland split occuring south of Richfield and between Hudson and Stow.
-
Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
I agree that it would be impractical to change how the boundaries are drawn. I am just pointing out that it causes problems in separating Cleveland's MSA from Akron's, mostly to the detriment of the size of the Cleveland MSA.
-
Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
I would guess Twinsburg heavily favors Cleveland. For me, Hudson would be the one that could go either way, although I'd bet that may even have more people working in Cleveland. Pugu, where did you get those stats?

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Whether or not Akron should be part of the Cleveland MSA is only part of the discussion. The other part is the problem with drawing MSA boundaries only on county lines. Even if Akron and Cleveland really should remain separate, there are areas in the Akron MSA that belong in the Cleveland MSA, and even a couple areas in the Cleveland MSA that belong in the Akron MSA. This may only seem absurd to people that know the Cleveland area well, but Wadsworth is in the Cleveland MSA, and Northfield is in the Akron MSA. That is crazy to me.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
The fans have put pressure on the team to do stupid things, like replace Hoyer with Manziel when we were 7-4. Do you really think that all the Johnny chants and stadium filled with Manziel jerseys didn't have an effect on the team's decision making? Baker Mayfield may very well be the Browns quarterback of the future. Tyrod very likely is not. But yanking him now is a terrible idea and sends the message that the Browns are still the Browns to the rest of the players. I get it, the first two games were frustrating. But everyone expected us to be 0-2. Even people that thought we might win 8 games this year. Everyone said "we need to be patient after starting 0-2 and not blow things up". We did BETTER than expected and everyone is still doing what they said they wouldn't do. That being said, Zane Gonzalez DOES need to go. He has consistently sucked.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
What exactly was "get rid of him" wrong with Taylor today? Some inconsistency and one pick, otherwise a good game. The offense was inept, Taylor's decision making was awful, he missed wide open receivers, he threw an INT at crunch time (his one claim to fame is that he usually doesn't turn the ball over), he didn't step up in the pocket, he actually ran into a sack when the left side was wide open for a QB run or pass, etc. I'm really not surprised though. Everyone knows that Taylor is at best an average quarterback. This is the guy who was actually benched for Nathan Peterman for crying out loud. It's only a matter of time before he is benched for the Heisman winner and #1 overall pick. How many times did Tyrod revert to that little dump off pass 3 years down field right over the line of scrimmage. It must have been 6 times in the last two drives. It seems like he was always looking for the relief valve. Count me in on the "let's try Baker" bandwagon. Browns fans are the worst. This is why we keep ruining rookie QBs (or playing guys like Manziel when we're 7-4.). We were expected to lose the first two games even if we're much better this year, and we tied the Steelers and would have beaten the Saints if we had a kicker and you're calling for the QB's head already? Come on.
