Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
And so it goes when you have a market selling fresh food. If people want late night or 24-hour convenience, then they'll have to go to the supermarket and settle for buying what they sell. You can't have it both ways.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I don't have much of a problem with their hours right now. 7-6 is better than you were asking for (for Friday and Saturday at least). Of course I'd like to see it open Tuesday and Thursday as well, and for a couple more hours during the week, but if it helps them cut costs while keeping a good customer base to have the hours they currently have, then I'm all for it.

There are a few gorgeous Victorian buildings left along the north side Prospect in the 30s.

Actually I believe it's Locally Undesirable Land Usage, but same idea. Anyways, what I am really wondering is what is BANANA, or is it just pope being popp?

Abandoned: Solon: Central Park Lifestyle Center
Ehhh...never mind. Just to clarify: Solon is roughly the same land area as Parma, yet has roughly 25% of the population. Also, it is about twice as far from downtown. Really, the only purpose this development will serve is to rob businesses from other developments which in turn robbed businesses from others which eventually robbed them from the city of Cleveland itself. It's not progress, it's just another instance of the constant running that exurbanites do. And it'll only stop when (1) gas runs out and we haven't put much thought into an alternative fuel, or (2) the people fleeing Cleveland run into the people fleeing Youngstown/Akron/Pittsburgh/Columbus/Toledo/Detroit. By then, we won't need farms anyways, as we'll all be buying "food pills" from Wal-Mart, the only retail store left in the US. Boy, am I in a pessimistic state tonight...time for bed.

Abandoned: The Terraces (formerly Domain on Lee in Cleveland Heights)
So is there any word yet on construction starting for the Terraces?

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Sorry if I missed this or it is old news, but it caught my eye on Stark's website as I thought there was some doubt as to how much of his project would be built all at once (emphasis added):

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
If we're not going to build something that makes sense (aka Pesht) then we may as well go for the full phallus and build a skyscraper 1 foot taller than the new record-setting Dubai one...and add on to it any time anyone passes us up...and use MayDay's design, a gray gradient building would be pimp!

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
So what *should* be there...nothing?

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
So are you saying it should be LESS dense to match the parking lots around it? :?

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
How was I off-topic? I simply was refuting the claim that the Avenue District looks like something out of Solon...quite on topic in a discussion about the Avenue District being too suburban for downtown.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
to me, cheesy bannering would be like the san diego little italy district. every ten feet, there was a banner on a pole. and they all had pictures of different italian american actors, ray romano or leonardo decraprio, and then it said, "san diego's little italy, brought to you by pepsi." it seemed really unnecessary, I mean, wouldn't the FIVE italian restaurants tell me where I am?! That is exactly what I was talking about. Of course, if done right, the banners could be nice. I'll have to see what the plans are.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
My favorite $7.99 lunch cost me $8.61 today after tax instead of the usual $8.59. Big dent in the wallet.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich
What!?!?!?! I am no proponent of Communism, but I think it's funny how right-wingers will make things up to make sure everyone views it as an evil political system instead of what it really is (in my opinion)...a noble set of ideals which is completely unrealistic in the context of actual human behavior. It is simply extreme far-left politics, and is no more "evil" than extreme far-right politics. How did the right-wingers start mixing politics and religion anyways? Christianity falls more in line with liberal fiscal policies than conservative ones.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Agreed...to me the banners are unnecessary. Sometimes, putting up banners when they aren't needed just screams "cheesy".

Abandoned: Solon: Central Park Lifestyle Center
Couldn't they have saved some gas and just told them, "Listen, we're gonna try to take your POS suburb and attempt to make it look a little bit like one of those old-fashioned cities, so brainless exurbians will actually shop here thinking it's really cool."

Nice...I love how side-by-side the CIA letter makes the already weak CDC letter look like a pile of dog shart.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
True, unless you are riding the rapid. In that case, the $58 monthly pass pays for itself after 17 trips (20 round trips would cost $70). I agree, however, that there should be more of a savings for buying a monthly pass, since you are then locked in for the whole month. For someone who may ride to work quite often, but may need to have the use of their car once every week or every other week, it makes more sense to just buy the tickets individually (especially if they use bus service rather than rapid). You would think RTA would rather encourage people to buy the monthly passes a little more and get the guaranteed money. Instead, people who buy the individual tickets are more likely to use their car a few more times each month than if they had bought the monthly pass.

Ohio Immigration
Here we go.... The law they are breaking is the one that says they can't be here. Its not because they are illegally drinking beer, or speeding, or stealing, or anything else. Immigrants who break other laws, aren't necessarily shipped back as you put it. Immigrants indicates a LEGAL person. Violating a minor law will not get them shipped back. You missed my point completely. My point was that things are only illegale because we say they're illegal. If we made smoking illegale there'd be a hell of a lot more criminals in our country. I was saying this is exactly whatg happened with drinking...we made it illegal and created criminals...same thing with immigration...it used to be people could come here and look for work, now you have to almost prove to have a good job before they'll even consider you...so now we've made hard-working people who come to our country willing to work illegal. Fine, change the laws, but there would still be quotas. What gives you the impression it was so easy for our ancestors to emigrate? There were quotas then also. No, I believe the first quotas were enacted in 1921 and 1924. You continue to miss the point. What don't you get about the difference between people who come here legally and those that come illegally? Why would anyone consider shipping back someone here legally because they took a job from another American? Why can't there be rules to follow? You're right, nobody shipped my grandfathers back for coming here at the turn of the century from Italy, working hard, learning the language, making their children speak English only, and then sending these same children back to Europe to fight to defend our country. There are plenty of people spiteful of even legal immigrants. There are rallies around the country to stop immigration, even legal. Regardless, I don't see a big difference between many of the illegals and their legal counterparts of old. They both are hard-working and have simply come here to pursue opportunities. The difference is that we have made it harder for them now to become citizens. What irks me the most is the attitude that people think we need to tighten up our borders even against legal immigration (which we have done). This is the typical suburban attitude...I want to move to a nice rural area and build a new McMansion, but then keep everyone else out. I am a self-made hard-working American living off of a decent salary and I wish the same opportunity that was afforded to me for everyone else. How about you?

Ohio Immigration
I tried to add my two cents to the blog, but not sure if it got approved. Anyways... ----- "people arrested at Koch Foods were criminals." Only because we made a law that says so. Drinking beer was illegal at one time, but most people did it anyways, and many of them immigrants at the time. Should they all have been shipped back? Maybe we need to take a look at our laws, and better evaluate who could be a productive member of our society, and make it easier for them to immigrate, just like all of our ancestors did. Also, I am tired of hearing people whine and complain that immigrants and illegals (most of which should simply be immigrants in my opinion) are taking jobs from Americans. What do you think Italian and Irish immigrants did over a hundred years ago when they came and took low-paying factory jobs? Nobody shipped them back home then.

Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
"People don't flee Cleveland because of statistics. They flee because they don't feel safe." Correct, and her attitude is helping to further that feeling. If she or the Plain Dealer really cared about the city at all, they wouldn't dwell on the same old stories to instill fear in people. If crime is down, it is down, and the paper should reflect that. Otherwise, it is a sensational commentary, not a news source. Somebody needs to email this lady.

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
you're kidding right? btw there are soon to be two ikea's on l.i., another is under construction. Yes, I was kidding. I am saying that the population in an area is more important than the geography. There is a pretty large population within 1 or 2 hours of Steelyard Commons. And if Long Island can support three Ikea's with a population of 7.5 million, then I would think Northeast Ohio could support one.
