  1. I have yet to try Oui Oui. For some reason, every time I am on that corner (which is quite often) and I am hungry/thirsty I get pulled into Johnny Mango like the place has large U-magnets or something.
  2. You're right, for the most part. But some people do, and they only live where they do because they've been detached from the city since the riot days and think that they HAVE to live where they live.
  3. I preach urbanism constantly to exurbanites, but I think they have the thickest skulls I have ever seen. Not to say I've never been able to shed some new light on the subject to some, but many think you're a little nuts. I'm sure all of us on here have been there before. It can be awfully frustrating.
  4. Unfortunately, I think we would be the only ones that would vote for UOans for public office.
  5. I was at the festival as well and was impressed with the progress of the garage (as well as how many people were out and about on Lee). Is there a separate garage going behind the lofts? I was under the impression the garage they are building will sit diagonally behind the lofts and be the only garage.
  6. I have no problem with that, but some of those McMansions on Chester are very Westlake-ish. That's fine if it spurs a renewal, I just hope future development doesn't follow that suburban path in areas so close to the core of the city. That pattern of development is just as inefficient and impractical 2 miles from downtown as it is in Broadview Heights. I'm not saying anyone can. I'm just replying to the comment that made it seem like the area would be just as well served by McMansions on .5 acre lots as by something much more dense.
  7. I take that back. I should have looked at the picture more closely. I thought those quarter circle lines looked like seats, but they are most likely parking spaces. I would guess it's some Crocker Park-style "decoration" on the corner there.
  8. Ummm...yes. If we build suburban McMansions 2 or 3 miles from downtown all around the city we sure will stifle any chance for expansion of urban renewal if we are able to fill up Downtown/Ohio City/Tremont. Then we will have exurbs from 2 miles to 30 miles instead of just 15 to 30 miles from the city.
  9. True, now if we can only get Pesht built, we can lure in some suburbians to enjoy it, and a few may even stick around and buy a place.
  10. Couldn't have put it any better myself.
  11. I dunno, have you been inside the place recently? It really is a .........hole I have been on the 7th, 8th, and 15th (Sterling Room, conference rooms, bowling) floors a few times in the past few months, and the place is hardly a hole (the Sterling Room especially). I can see your point, however, MayDay.
  12. I think the members are upset because they feel the Euclid Corridor project is killing them. They have lost 206 (around 30%) of their members in 6 months! That's not because of the facility itself, but the fact that it's currently extremely difficult to get to the place and the street lights are out on that section of Euclid at night.
  13. I usually find that the homeless people are confrontational in a more begging way, trying to convince you they need the money, or they try to joke. Last week, though, I had one repeatedly call me a "tight ass" and tell me to "tighten it up" after I told him I didn't have any change for him and walked by him. The guy actually seemed pretty with it, so I actually found it pretty funny that someone who wanted something for absolutely nothing would call someone else a tight ass. I doubt he was actually homeless. Sorry, me too. With all the talk of homeless I used the wrong term...I meant to say panhandler.

  15. LOL. Sorry to raise your blood pressure, but you must have missed the Atlanta thread, where some of the arguments in Atlanta's favor made it seem like the urban mecca of the South. It has its problems, and a few nice urban parts, but it by no means compares to many of the great urban centers in our country (and even those in the South).
  16. Reminds me of Atlanta. Seriously, though, Savannah is the most beautiful city I have ever been to, and one of the best urban designs as well. I have been there twice and look forward to going back.
  17. Sounds like a boycott is in order...
  18. It would be quite a shame if a 100 year old club wouldn't at least wait out the construction for a year before making a rash decision. It is a beautiful place and would be terrible to lose.
  19. I don't believe so. I am pretty sure the talks were that it was going to be sold. I doubt the new owner would have another use for the part of the building with a basketball court, bowling alley, and swimming pool. I don't think it would be easy (or profitable) to rehab something like this into anything else, and they seem to have enough members to justify keeping the operation going, especially with the Avenue District project taking off.
  20. How is the Cleveland Athletic Club considered vacant? The club is active and takes up floors 6 through 15? Or are they simply referring to the lower 5 floors?
  21. It's Westlake, does this surprise you? Crocker Park has always seemed like a couple of things to me: First, as far as the buildings go, it seems liek one of those test freeways they build out in the middle of nowhere. It's a decent concept and built fairly nice, but it's out of the way and out of place for what it is. Second, as far as the people visiting it, it's like a zoo. Go there, see the animals (urbanist stylings) out of their original context, enjoy, leave, and go back to your "modus operandi".
  22. This should be combined with the Atlanta thread. :-P
  23. Sorry, KJP, I was so tired when I read your article that I completely missed that part. Thanks for keeping us updated. Here's to hoping all goes as currently planned.

I know of two people on this site who would join the Case chapter.
