  1. This is a pretty beat to hell area with no existing nucleation point. The money might be better spent on 156th between Waterloo and Lakeshore. From an "improve the neighborhood" standpoint, you're right, but this road is used as a cut-through for people to get from I-90 to places like Nela Park, so I'm sure that's the motivation for this project (yet another "Opportunity Corridor").
  2. It's definitely doing well, busy whenever I pass through (which is almost always daytime). Nice blend of old and newer, and the activity has some depth beyond the main street. The city needs to step up their visions at the corner of Erie and Vine Sts. The city's crucial intersection has a god-awful new build courthouse, a BP station and 2 suburban-style banks. They can change the complexion there by promoting walk-ability. I think they view the bend where Euclid becomes Erie as their focus. Chagrin Riverwalk may pull some development towards itself and fill in some gaps. Yes, that's the center, but I thought a few years ago they said they wanted to extend downtown to the north of Mentor/Vine toward the railroad tracks.
  3. I just realized that the weird right turn area off of Ontario southbound at Carnegie that used to be there until the innerbelt bridge construction (and is now a sidewalk) was a remnant of Central Place.
  4. They're not mutually exclusive, but they're statistically correlated. There's a HUGE difference between those two.
  5. The return of Tapatalk support. Pleeeeeeaaaassseee.

Wow! I'm going to have to buy myself some gift cards! The good ones usually go pretty quickly, but it is well worth it to get them as they don't expire for 5 years or so. What do you mean "good ones"? It looks like the gift cards can be used at 80+ restaurants?? Are the gift cards specific to particular restaurants? They sell them per restaurant, so you'd have to know which restaurants you want. https://clevelandindependents.instagift.com/discount-sale They're already on sale, and the half off ones tomorrow will only be on what is left. Still, you can get some pretty amazing deals. Just make sure to read the "The Fine Print" link next to each one, although the restrictions on using them are usually pretty minimal.

If you are interested in getting a Cleveland Independents gift card, they are half off tomorrow only:

I think it was really about people from conservative states pushing back against Obama. I bet now that Republicans control the federal government, you stop hearing so much about states' rights.
  9. I didn't think I could hate Harry Buffalo any more than I already did.
  10. West 73rd I'm guessing.
  11. I thought this looked familiar... http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,30938.msg824433.html#msg824433
  12. All I know is that the instant I walked into Quincy Market and saw a Starbucks on the left, I turned around and left. Regardless of whether it's a chain or not, the appearance of a tourist trap can be a huge turnoff, especially if that's not the experience you're expecting. I do think the fruit and veggie stands could be improved, and I do agree with X on pretty much all points about trying to attract local products.
  13. I think the authenticity of the West Side Market being a market that hasn't been tainted with tourist-trap stuff is a lot of what makes it a tourist destination. I would be wary of messing with that.
  14. EDIT: Never mind, answered by Clefan98's article.
  15. I don't believe Lakeview Tower is senior housing. Are you confusing it with Riverview?
  16. Before? https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1309653,-84.4629137,3a,75y,326.44h,90.83t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1smjJK9_nJCMznlM2KsYL15g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
  17. This is a lot better than his first proposal. Does anybody why that never materialized? http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2008/04/little_italy_condos_win_approv.html I believe it had multiple curb cuts and was significantly smaller (~24,000 sqft) after Perotti was urged to cut the height from 70 to 60 feet, although I can't find the renderings anymore. Although it would be nice to have the garage entrance in the back, as mentioned the existing grade would make it very difficult. I also thought that the parking off E. 119th may be owned by Sidari's all the way south to Mayfield Rd., but I'm not sure of this. EDIT: Never mind, I was incorrect, it looks like these spots are owned by Little Italy Development, LLC.
  18. Interesting. Their Twitter feed said everything was open by 9:22 am, but then someone replied to that tweet saying the closed signs were still in place. Sounds about right.
  19. EDIT: Never mind. I see it was this morning.
  20. That would probably be possible, although they'd have to contend with westbound red line trains (at the crossover point) in addition to westbound waterfront line trains. Although, looking on Google Maps satellite view, it seems as if the first opportunity to switch back on the Waterfront Line is just before the West 3rd station, so it would have to be single-tracked all the way from there (unless there's a crossover under the Detroit-Superior bridge that can't be seen).
  21. It could back down the red line track to use the crossover. :P
  22. Going strictly by recollection, it seems as though, upon entering Tower City, the eastbound Red Line track switches then veers away (to the right) from the Red Line's center TC terminal track and connects with the outer eastbound WFL track before the 2 lines/joint track enters the TC platform. I don't believe that interlocking has a connection that would allow eastbound WFL trains to switch all the way over to Track 8 to access the (normal) westbound platform. ... again, I could be wrong. TC track config anyone? I couldn't find anything definitive, but what you can see on Google Maps satellite view of the tracks before they disappear under Tower City confirms what you are saying.
  23. I think you hit the nail on the head there. I have plenty of gripes with RTA, but it's still much better than anything between Chicago and Philadelphia that I have seen.
  24. Sorry, I should clarify...I'm not saying this project is going down like Pesht...I am just saying that some of us are more skeptical of Stark than others because of his long history of over-promising in the city while actually building in the suburbs.
  25. I'm not sure if you were around this board for the Pesht discussion over 10 years ago, but for some of us, Stark has a lot to prove to make us believers.
