  1. Historically it hasn't been this way.
  2. It's been said this could be the most valuable piece of real estate in the city. Does anyone here think that this new project reflects that idea in any way? Absolutely not. What it reflects is the Coral Company's involvement in the project, which means it will be a cheap pile of garbage that is nothing like any of their original promises. See Cedar Center North for a perfect example.
  3. That was the "string of robberies" I was talking about. The priest was the first victim of four robberies by the same people on the same night. Other than that one night, there has only been one other robbery in all of Little Italy in at least 8 months until this one...at least according to the CWRU Safety Alerts. Most problems on or near campus occur north of Euclid Avenue. What is surprising to me isn't the volume of robberies in Little Italy (it's probably still far lower than any other place in Cleveland)...but the location and time of this one especially. This wasn't one of the streets connecting to Euclid Avenue in East Cleveland, or the back parking lot of the church at night. Not only was this broad daylight, but this is a well trafficked corner with Rising Star, a couple restaurants, and a store flanking the intersection.
  4. Yes, but they were all on the same day by the same people (who were all subsequently caught). And they all occurred north of Mayfield Rd. at night and seemed to target the church parking lot (considerably further from campus). I wouldn't say that seemed to be targeted to students or similar at all in pattern to this occurrence. I thought maybe you had heard about some other incidents like this one closer to campus.
  5. Unlocked cell phones are worth almost as much as laptops now. What other incidents have you heard about? I occassionally check CWRU alerts and haven't noticed anything in Little Italy this school year other than the well known string of robberies in December and a robbery in September in the parking lot by Sidari's.
  6. Just a guess, but maybe to steal a laptop and/or cell phone something? It may not even have been "targeted", but just a "crime of opportunity" where there was no one around except a kid with some sort of valuables on him and the robbers made a spur of the moment decision to pull the car over?
  7. Valentino's is still the same quality as it was in the late 90s when I was at Case. It's one of the best pizzas in the Cleveland area IMO, and you can't beat the price either. I would easily pay 50% more for it (I hope they don't read that though! :P ). I think anyone who says Mamma Santa is the best pizza in Little Italy is either crazy or has never tried Valentino's. No comparison. Anyway...crimewise...I spend a fair amount of time down there still and have walked from Murray Hill/Adelbert to Murray Hill/Mayfield countless times and never once gotten the feeling that anywhere along that stretch was anything but perfectly safe. Seeing the location of this (regardless of time of day, but especially at 9:45 am on a Sunday) was shocking to me.
  8. Biagio's in Eastlake has great donuts overall and serves paczkis. On a side note, the owner just died. :(
  9. That's pretty close to the "border" between the effective CWRU campus and Little Italy. It's the extension of Cornell Rd up the hill, right by Valentino's. Yes, I know that. I went to Case (lived four years in a bottom-of-the-hill south side dorm) and still pick up a Valentino's pizza about twice a month. I would consider that part of Little Italy to be just as safe as as Murray Hill and Mayfield.
  10. Robbery of a Case student in broad daylight on a Sunday morning at Murray Hill and Edgehill. WTF is going on in Little Italy? http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/oh-cuyahoga/case-western-reserve-university-student-robbed-at-gunpoint-near-campus
  11. I believe 9x18 is for outdoor spots...in a parking garage I think the minimum is 10x20
  12. I don't believe this happened at the new diamond. The tracks that cross are for westbound Blue Line trains and eastbound Green Line trains. Also, in the picture you posted, it looks like you can see the diamond to the left of where the train is. It looks like the train was splitting off to the right before the diamond when it derailed, which would make sense if it was an eastbound Blue Line train.
  13. I think 422 ends at Public Square. It used to end at Superior, so the southern half of what was cut off was either rerouted around the southeast and southwest sides of the square, or it was terminated before it reached US 6, which seems unlikely.
  14. Agreed. If 422 was able to be rerouted, I don't see why 6 couldn't be as well.
  15. It is (US 6), but Ontario through the southern half of the square was also a federal route (US 422).
  16. There was a north south connector planned around W. 65th. The southern stub of this connector was built as the Denison exit ramp off of I-71.
  17. Channel 19 will run anything.
  18. I'll third Le Petit Triangle. I love that place any time of day, but it's especially good for breakfast or dessert.
  19. Johnny Manziel. He's the biggest disaster of them all, so it's only fitting.
  20. That's so Browns!
  21. I think there would be more savings than you realize. Of course it's not going to mean that 36 suburbs shrunk to 4 means 9 times less service personnel needed. But it also would likely mean *some* reduction. If a city really only needs 1.1 of some worker, they will have to hire 2. Sometimes, a city will need to hire for a position where the person could easily handle double the population if the city were bigger, but they're not going to hire that person part time. When suburbs are so small, this is likely very common. The number of workers hired is always rounded up from the number of workers needed. These things can really add up over a larger number of small suburbs. The same goes for equipment (police and fire especially).
  22. It's ridiculous that they'd choose one over the other. West Park and Lakewood combined account for almost 10% of Cuyahoga County's population. But I guess they're not the right 10%... Just for the sake of accuracy, I double checked this statistic because I didn't think it sounded correct. As of the 2010 census, Lakewood and Fairview Park combine for 5.39% of Cuyahoga County's population.
  23. Somebody's going to have to let MayDay up there to snap some pictures.
  24. This place does... http://smoke-bbqgrill.com I've had it once or twice, and I don't remember being wowed.
  25. I'm really glad we beat the Ravens, too, and I think McCown has been playing very well, even in our losses. However, our run game is pitiful and our defense only slight better.
