  1. If you're a renter, you don't want it to happen. It's what is happening in San Francisco. That is the central argument against gentrification. I can see where they have an argument here. If it was just an influx of private dollars for whatever reason, that'd be a different story. But selling government-owned property for an 80% discount is using taxpayer dollars to fuel gentrification.
  2. Where are you getting your numbers? Yes, Toronto has a low crime rate, but not nearly as low as you're claiming: http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/statistics/ytd_stats.php In 2013, Toronto had 56 homicides, not 18.

That is exactly what I was thinking while watching the game on Friday. It was the most I've enjoyed watching the NBA in a while.
  5. That is the former Sergio's University Circle spot. There's some more info on their website: http://www.restauranttrentina.com/

Deng is one of those guys that just "has it", whatever "it" is. When I used to just see him play occasionally with the Bulls, I wondered what made him good. He's not quick, doesn't have a nice looking jump shot, has a downright ugly stroke from the free throw line, and has a below average handle. But he always gets himself into the right spot to make things happen on offense (put backs, open shots, opportunities for other guys, etc.), makes good decisions, finds a way to put the ball in the basket, plays good D, knows how to draw fouls, and provides a leadership presence on the court. It goes to show that if you had to pick between raw talent and having a nose for the game, the latter will get you further. Of course, having both is still what makes you a legend, but he's a great asset to have on our team.
  7. Oh, no, we have a Like button. I've never noticed it. Not sure if I like that. Now people like Hts121 are gonna be fishing for my coveted Like button clicks.

Also, just before halftime Portland was down 8, and then went on a 14-2 run to take a 4 point lead.

Geographically speaking and considering closest teams, the Cavaliers are a rather large market: And considering the population within that area.
  11. Why did OSU not use their timeouts at the end? After the knew, it was 3rd and 30, 30 seconds left and OSU had two timeouts left.
  12. Has anyone been to Red downtown, yet?
  13. That was my first thought, too.
  14. The mall's reaction or the crime? That there is occasional crime is hardly a surprise. Actually, I was surprised that it's been 3 years since a violent crime has happened there, considering the number of visitors and the perception that there are a lot of problems.
  15. I will not be going because I don't like "freeze your butt off and no drinking" events like Times Square on NYE and I'd much rather hang out on E. 4th, but I guarantee you there will be more than 100 people on Public Square tonight. And I guarantee you that this event couldn't fit on E. 4th.
  16. I can't see any large scale event ever being held on E. 4th. It was a clusterfuggle during the lighting just from the ice carving.
  17. I've never been to Eric Williams's Lakewood place (and to be fair, I've heard similar complaints as yours from others), but you're missing out if you don't go to Momocho or Happy Dog (and as it sounds, Jack Flaps as well) because of that experience.
  18. Didn't you say the lamb chops were "amazing?" What would you expect to pay for amazing lamb chops? Even Applebee's entrees are around $15!

I'm as disappointed in the Cavs as anyone, but how are the Browns not at least as disappointing this year?
  20. This seemed strange from the get-go, and is why newspapers have no business engaging in "19 Action News"-style jump-to-conclusions reporting.
  21. That is in the nicer section of CH. Not good. One can be considered an aberration, pending investigation. Much like the killing of Sharon Anderson-Norfus said a lot more about Maple than Shaker.... This is upsetting, but I agree, ERocc. We need to wait to find out what happened first before going all cleveland.bomb on here.
  22. I know many people hold this view, but I disagree. There definitely are more problems in Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights than "back in the good old days," but I don't see why people think historical integration had anything to do with it. There has been an "outflux" of crime from the city everywhere for quite a while now. Obviously, cities like Maple Heights, Garfield Heights, Euclid, Bedford, Parma, East Cleveland, etc. have seen the effects of it, and it's not like they were known for historical integration. I would say that if anything, CH's and SH's willingness to integrate staved off problems for longer, as the increased demand from people with jobs and money (both black and white) kept the neighborhoods stable much longer than the suburbs where the white people fled at first sight of a black person, causing property values to instantly fall and neighborhoods to decay. Unfortunately, sprawling development has made increased blight almost inevitable in all inner ring and inner city areas. Some have just fought it off better than others, and I'd put CH and SH in the "fighting it off fairly well" category.
  23. What exactly is this in response to? One of the strawmen he loves to argue with.
