Cleveland Guardians Discussion
MTS, KJP, how many games have you guys been to this year? Besides, MTS, a lot of the reason fans aren't showing up is not because they don't believe in the team, but because the weather has been awful for nearly every homestand so far. Look at yesterday. Both games had rain delays. And who's going to show up to a rescheduled Monday day game that's rain delayed? This is not an excuse. We should be drawing more fans. But the reasons fans aren't showing up are a lot more varied than simply them not believing in the team.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
I was at the Indians game last night and the guys next to us asked how late the garage up the street (not even sure which one they were asking about) was open. We asked what they meant and they said "we're going to the casino after the game and want to make sure we can get our car out later." They were Indians fans but I don't think they were from the Cleveland area (they asked if we were from Cleveland before asking about the garage) but said they had seen ads and thought the casino was open, so it may be attracting people downtown before it's even open!

Columbus: Crime & Safety Discussion
I have put that into account, but most murders seem to happen in a certain section of town (the east side I believe). Probably not a surprise to most, I just didn't think Columbus had so many murders/violent crimes. Its core city is no different than the others. High crime, and high population loss. The size of the city somewhat skews the data which makes things look better for Columbus. Not really if you understand how crime rates work. They don't particularly favor anyone. We've had this discussion many times. I'm not sure why you choose not to understand it. Compare the crime rate within Columbus's 1950 boundaries or compare core counties for a more apples to apples comparison. You'll see that all 3 cities have similar crime problems.

Wendy's/BK, Arby's, and McDonald's all on the same corner? I think I'll take today's food court over that food court.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I have and always will support the Cavs, Indians, and Browns no matter their record. What annoys me are the multitudes of people who are fairweather Cavs and Indians fans but will always be Browns fans. It also annoys me that the Browns get more coverage in the off season when they suck than other in season teams who are playing well.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
If people are sick and tired of the Browns, maybe they need to start talking with their pocketbooks. The Browns are by far the least successful Cleveland sports franchise in the past 15 years, yet they never fail to sell out a game and its the only team anyone around here can talk about even when the Cavs (a few years ago) or Indians (right now) are in first place. It gets kind of annoying.

I think we should have 500 divisions so everyone can say they're champions.

Megaplex? Bleh. I'd rather have more Cedar Lees and Capitols pop up than Valley Views.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
I don't disagree that there are other cities, but Manhattan is just what came to my mind. I didn't mean all of Manhattan, but parts of it. I know of many areas which were deemed very seedy not too long ago which are right up there with some of the most desirable areas now as far as demand. I do agree that your DC example is probably better, and I don't know enough about Philadelphia to have compared anything to it. By the way, I wasn't comparing the cities themselves to Cleveland, just the patterns of development and human behavior, which I don't think will vary that much from city to city.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
Yo may be correct, but you are ignoring the factor that the 'market' for urban living amongst the millenials is much, much larger than it has been for recent generations. I also think it ignores the fact that many people that live in the suburbs would like to live in urban areas but are scared to because they don't personally know anyone else who does, or fell like there needs to be a critical mass of people in a given neighborhood before they'd move there. Kind of a chicken-and-egg problem. It could reach a tipping point where "urban living" isn't looked at as being so radical or risky or however people that are afraid to come downtown think of it and then there would be an explosion of demand. That is what happened in Manhattan.

South Euclid: Cedar Center
Interesting, it looks like it has the potential to be a pretty good place (interesting concept at least), and I'm sure it'll be popular with the college crowd.

New 2010 Urbanized area's released
I think of Columbus as being more "unwalkable sprawly" than "low density sprawly". There are a lot of dense condo complexes surrounded by 7 lane highways.

Cleveland: Downtown's resurgance to be discussed on NPR Tuesday, March 20 2012
Just catching up some on UO... Scanning this thread, one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb: Surfohio, the libertarian, wants the government to tell private landowners that they are not allowed to charge for parking in their lots? ???

What about basketball? Obviously, it is home to CSU basketball, but they also play high school tournament games there.

NCAA Men's Basketball: General News & Discussion
It's too bad Cleveland State fizzled out at the end (of course Brown's injury didn't help) because the start of the season was very promising, dealing Vanderbilt (who just beat #1 Kentucky today) their biggest loss of the season (13 pts).

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Yeah, it's hard to say enough good things about Kyrie. Gee is much better and more exciting to watch than I ever thought he would be. They may not be a top team in the league, but at least they're fun to watch (at least when Jamison isn't throwing up sidewinders every time he touches the ball).

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Looking at the map, I think it would help and make a lot of sense if they considered closing off Prospect for a few blocks to really make the school feel more like a campus. Wasn't there actually talk a few years ago of closing off one of those main thoroughfares? That would go a long way in helping with "campusization." Maybe they could just tunnel Prospect under a concrete brutalist structure.
