ColDayMan likes it when anyone rags on Cleveland. However, do you guys realize that the post preceding Buckeye's were a from a mix of posters from Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland? On this page the posts are from (in order) Cincy, Cincy, Col, Cincy, NYC, Cle, Cincy, Cle, Col, Col, Col, Cle, Cincy, Col, Cincy, Col. I know we love to pretend that this board is dominated by whiny babies from Cleveland, though.
  2. I disagree. I went Mac (Mac Mini) and turned back. I wouldn't go back to Mac even if the hardware was similarly priced. But I am likely not the average user (more technical/geeky). I built a PC which blows away the Mac Mini (no comparison) after I sold it, for less than the what I originally purchased my Mac Mini for.
  3. What especially doesn't make any sense is that Vanderbilt is in at #25. Vanderbilt is 6-3 with no wins against a top 25 team. Now that they are ranked, CSU is 10-1 with a win against a top 25 team (a win over Vanderbilt themselves, ranked #7 at that time). And yet, Vanderbilt has 88 points and CSU has 7.
  4. I'm wondering about W. 9th as well. We already know there will be a connection to W. 10th, right?

Oh, and by the way, it's a pretty universal opinion that AT&T sucks. Consumer Reports just rated the cell phone companies, and Verizon and Sprint came out nearly identical, whereas AT&T was way in last place in pretty much every market.

I switched from Verizon to Sprint and am glad I did. I actually had poor reception at work previously, and now I get a full signal with great 3G speeds. Also, even though I never had problems with getting a signal near my house, I had extremely slow speeds on 3G, which again are much better with Sprint. My wife is still on Verizon, and there are spots where she gets a better signal, but I'd say there are just as many spots where I get a better signal. On a trip through the mountains to North Carolina last summer, I kept a 3G signal nearly the entire way, whereas she had no signal at all through much of West Virginia. Her phone does seem to do better in less populated areas near Lake Erie, though, such as Ashtabula, where I drop down to 1X and she maintains a 3G signal. Sprint gives you more for less, though, and IMO has a better selection of phones.

Maybe Dan Gilbert reads Urban Ohio.
  8. Regardless of one's subjective opinions of Crocker Park (I dislike it as well), it's not really between downtown Cleveland and Oberlin anyway. It's about 25 min from downtown, but probably only about 5 min closer to Oberlin than downtown.
  9. It's not even a new Forbes story (or even a new article about the Forbes story), but links back to the original February 2010 story. Someone must have decided to spread it again, knowing most people would be so glad to have an opportunity to bash on Cleveland that they wouldn't even check the date. (By the way, for what it's worth, Forbes did release "Miserable City" rankings last year and Cleveland was 10th.) I think Facebook comment arguments are dumb, but I started one by blasting the ignorant comments left by friends of a friend from the East Coast who were laying into Cleveland (and I'm sure none of them have ever even been here).
  10. Why have I seen 3 people on Facebook this morning post the Reuters story about Cleveland being the most miserable city on the Februrary 2010 Forbes list? Did some news agency just report it as new news or something?
  11. I saw that, and I think they went way overboard. Have you seen the video? All taunting needs to go and excessive celebrations along with it. I don't think this was either, though.
  12. I would have thought the elitists would embrace a B&B! :)
  13. KJP, become a premium member and ads will no longer be a problem! :)
  14. Don't believe them. I love golf, but it's anything but relaxing. I don't know if there's a more frustrating sport, actually, especially for a beginner. I agree. That is why I don't care much to watch or attend professional sports anymore. I don't even care for D1 college sports all that much. I prefer to watch high school and D3 college sports, where the players work hard, but also enjoy what they do and play for the love of the game, not as a job.
  15. Do you have traffic counts for Clifton/Shoreway? I'd be interested to see how much traffic is gained at the Shoreway entrance from Lake Ave., Edgewater Dr., and West Blvd. I still can't imagine that traffic would stack through Edgewater due to lights beyond West Blvd. If the Shoreway were converted to have traffic lights, that would have no effect on the current situation at West Blvd. and W. 117th unless traffic backed up from lights on the Shoreway (and I'd assume the first one would be W. 73rd in that scenario). Also, since W. 73rd is not a major through route, there would be no need to have the light stay red for the Shoreway nearly as long as West Blvd. and W. 117th. I just don't see the traffic backing up from that light (or any beyond it, especially if they're timed like the ones on Carnegie) all the way to West Blvd. or even to Lake Ave. (the distance from West Blvd. to W. 117th is about the same as from Lake Ave. and Clifton to W. 73rd.) Barring major traffic backups, the lights should be able to be timed so that even at its busiest time, 3 solid lanes of traffic can flow at 35 MPH without hitting a light all the way from West Blvd. to downtown for every time that light turns green, meaning the only effect on traffic would be the speed limit change, not the addition of traffic lights. This is pretty much how Carnegie works. Once you pass the MLK heading westbound in the morning, traffic does not stop until E. 55th Street, and often times not until E. 30th St., thanks to the timing of the lights.
  16. I have seen this happen more than once as well. Sometimes they close the entire right lane. I'm surprised the city allows them to do this, since there's no on-street parking on Carnegie anywhere at rush hour.
  17. Have you watched the Browns lately?
  18. Also on W. 25th, Orale has a very good and reasonable sit-down lunch menu.
  19. It shouldn't be hard to find someone like that around here! :)
  20. Excellent news! Also, I have been meaning to try out the sandwich shop connected to Old Angle as I have heard only good things about it.
  21. We're talking about a plan to make the shoreway a boulevard, not plopping a tree down the middle of the road by surprise. How can you even compare the effects of the two? EDIT: Sorry, I see someone else already responded similarly, but I had this page open for a while without refreshing and didn't see it before I posted.
  22. Yeah, I'm not sure why people are so up in arms about this, ESPECIALLY UrbanOhio people. And it seems many of the same people who are against the Opportunity Corridor boulevard are for keeping this road a limited access freeway. It makes no sense. An extra 2 or 3 minutes added to a commute from a suburb isn't a game changer.
  23. That's a good point, Bobcats. It would be ideal if Cleveland were a 72 square mile surface lot. Maybe we could get tourists from around the country to drive to our fair city with the promise of their very own free parking spot.
  24. Why stop at the restaurants? We should tear down the skyscrapers for more parking, too.
