Ohio High School Football: General News & Discussion
Yeah, I thought he was going to be something special when I watched him play last year (what an offense that was). I just saw he put up video game numbers last night.

I've heard more good things about Li Wah than Wonton Gourment, but I'm hesitant to try it because I'm not a big fan of Ho Wah (are they in fact the same owners?). EDIT: This answers my question: http://www.howahrestaurant.com/id54.html

I really like Sun Luck Garden, but I'm with MTS on feeling that they need to make their food spicier. For dishes that should be spicy, you have to ask them to make it as hot as they can just to get it to a decent level of spiciness.

I believe the newer Bob Evans style is a brick structure: Either way, yes, it's going to be surrounded by a sea of space-and-a-half-wide parking.

I've heard Pearl of the Orient in Shaker Heights is far different than Pearl of the Orient in Rocky River (if that's the one you've been to). Anyway, I find their food good (for take-out Chinese) but definitely not great. The sauces are all homemade and healthy (low sodium especially) but admittedly not the tastiest (maybe because they're healthy, haha). Also, I like them for take-out because the meat is of a much higher quality than the "strip plaza Chinese mystery meat" that you find at so many other cheaper Chinese take-out places.

Sun Luck Garden is on Taylor Rd. in Cleveland Heights, so it's definitely inner ring.

So you'll capitalize Americanized, but not Chinese?!?!?!?!??! BIGOT! :)

Pacific East (Japanese) and Sun Luck Garden should be on that list as well. I like the food at Pearl of the Orient, but the atmosphere isn't great and it always seems empty (I think that most of their business must be takeout).

Everything at The Robert Evans Bistro tastes the same...and not good.

University Heights hasn't done much better...after all we have a McDonald's going up right around the corner.

They shouldn't have torn down the old plaza. I'd prefer nothing to a Bob Evans. At least it would leave the possibility of something better coming in some time in the future.

Cleveland - Stadium(s) access
The last 5 games I have gone to I have either ridden the rapid or parked on E. 9th or E. 14th for free. When I parked on E. 14th this summer for the Yankees game, there were about 10 open spots when I parked...and people streaming into the $20 lot right in front of me on the east side of the street. When i got back to my car, only a few of the other spots had been taken.

I didn't like how they could only reheat food at Vine and Bean. They prepared the food at Lucky's. The prices were too high for food that wasn't fresh out of the oven.

This whole development is a joke. It's exactly what I expected once they started scaling back the plans. Bob Evans is the icing on the cake. I can't think of a worse restaurant to have in that location.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
Really? You don't know anyone who lives in the city limits that thinks people would be crazy to move back to NEO from other parts of the country? And you're lumping in CH, Brookpark, and Chardon together with Avon?

Cleveland - Stadium(s) access
Well, technically that picture started with you. I was on that train because I took your advice to ride the Green line to Brown's Stadium. It was great advice, I have never had such an easy time getting to and from a crowded stadium. Compared to Jacobs field, Browns stadium was a breeze. You can ride the rapid to Progressive Field/The Q as well (exit at Tower City) and it's just about as easy.

DeliverMeFood.com is great and it's value improves with the size of your order (the delivery charge is the same whether you're ordering for 1 or ordering for 8).

You caught a great play by Joe Haden in that picture. Not only was it good anticipation, but he finished the tackle off well with the blocker barreling down on him.

Ohio High School Football: General News & Discussion
Elyria was in the old LEL (which had two divisions, it was a huge conference). The GCC has been defunct for a while now. ERocc had the eight teams from the 80s correct. Nordonia joined when Mentor was booted (I believe the GCC told them they needed to split into two high schools or they were out since they were far bigger than any other school, there may have been a year or two where there was an overlap and the GCC had nine teams, but there was not at any time any schools west of Euclid/Brush/Maple Heights in the GCC). When the GCC disbanded, North and South formed the PAC with Madison, Riverside, and Chardon (Lakeside later joined, and now I believe University School and Geneva have joined). Euclid and I believe Maple Heights and Bedford as well joined the LEL. Mayfield, Brush, and Nordonia joined the WRC (which became the WRC North since it became a huge conference encompassing teams from as far north as Mayfield to as far south as Tallmadge). The CVC splitting apart at this time helped form these conferences as well, as it freed up Chardon (who formed the PAC), Solon, and Twinsburg (both of whom joined the WRC). The NOC was formed later. The LEL and GCC didn't merge into the 90s. The changes you're speaking about happened over the last few years. I know IIRC, when the merger took place all schools from both leagues joined and the League was split into a Large and Small school divisions. Then schools again complained about the distance so the many left for other leagues. I'm not sure what you're thinking of because the GCC hasn't existed for almost 15 years and Willoughby South and Eastlake North have never been in the LEL. There was no merging of the GCC and the LEL. The GCC disbanded in the late 90s and the teams went to the conferences I mentioned (in the late 90s, not "over the last few years"). Or are you referring to "ancient times"? :) I know the GCC was an old conference, and I don't know anything about it before the 80s.

Mentor wasn't in the conference for a good part of the 90s (when Nordonia was), and it was still called the GCC then. Although it does sound familiar that they had to do something like all leave the conference and form a new one to remove Mentor. Maybe they called it the Greater Cleaveland Conference? :)

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
To follow up, I actually had to meet the same friend at the same station this past Saturday. He got on the train following the one he was on last week, which was on time leaving W. 25th (12:15), and this time it arrived at the UC station almost exactly at the scheduled time (12:30).

As far as the Cleveland Heights situation in 2009, it turned out the kid would have been OK to play for Cleveland Heights if an administrator had not forgotten to file a form with the state showing that he was in fact eligible to play for Cleveland Heights. Also, Clevelander17 is correct that it caused the OHSAA to change the rules such that this specific type of error will not cause the entire team to forfeit in the future.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
Interesting that you ran so slowly. I know the construction between W. 25th and Tower City has slowed things down, but lately the trains seem very erratic. I was meeting a friend at the University Circle stop on Saturday. He called me at 11:57 to tell me he had caught the train which was scheduled to leave W. 25th at around 11:55 and I could hear the train moving in the background, so it was close to being on time. It didn't arrive at the UC stop until 12:22, so it took over 25 minutes to cover what used to be 15 minutes, and arrived 12 minutes behind schedule after being pretty much on time just a few stops before. Over 25 min to cover 6.5 miles is an average of about 15 mph. That's awfully slow for trains that can and do reach 55-60 mph at times. What is going on? It's not like the train was ahead and had to wait. It seems like the schedules are getting harder and harder to rely on being remotely accurate.
