  1. Because too many people with the means take the easy "short term gains" and bolt to the suburbs (or if they're already there, simply sever ties with the city) and take their money and energy with them, leaving those without means to rot, and then turn around and blame them for not improving their city instead of staying and helping to improve it themselves.
  2. Regionalism wouldn't be "the solution to poverty" or anything like that, but the current setup was put in place mainly so the wealthier people in the suburbs could keep their money to themselves.
  3. I am curious about where this park is since I had spent a fair amount of time looking for it. I can't find a park near the address you posted. try http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=2769+E+90th+St,+Cleveland,+OH+44104&aq=&sll=41.483662,-81.624861&sspn=0.001873,0.004823&vpsrc=6&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=2769+E+90th+St,+Cleveland,+Ohio+44104&ll=41.483839,-81.624266&spn=0.001853,0.004823&t=h&z=18 or insert into google maps: 2769 E 90th St, Cleveland, OH 44104 Ha, thanks, I am an idiot. I looked all over when I just needed to look right up the street.

  5. I agree. If you want to fix hip-hop, look to the record labels. There's plenty of good hip-hop out there, but the labels have deemed that the crap is what will sell the best, so that's what they push onto the radio, and inevitably (thanks to the exposure) it is what ends up selling the best.
  6. So when he said "Obama's a piece of shit, and I told him to suck on my machine gun" that wasn't a glorification of gun violence?
  7. I love the city, but if I was going to live in that area, Chagrin Falls is easily at the top of my list. It's close to a lot of things (including being less than 10 minutes to Solon without the hassle of a busy freeway) and has a great little town. The only challenge is that the homes are a little pricey around there.
  8. I was searching for info on this place and came across the following article: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:hZE9BnoHEZgJ:www.plainpress.org/html/stories/2008-11/envyfightsforsurvival.htm+envy+lounge+cleveland&cd=7&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us The link from Google search didn't work, but the cached version was still available. It's hard to believe the place is still open. I'll bet it closes down real soon now.

Just another way to shift more money to the "job creators caste".
  10. Doesn't East Cleveland also border South Euclid for a short stretch along Quilliams east of Nela Park? EDIT: Never mind, I see East Cleveland doesn't reach to Quilliams. I didn't know those streets to the west of Quilliams were in a small part of Cleveland Heights that actually borders the Euclid-Green neighborhood of Cleveland to the north.
  11. Stop right there. You obviously don't have a Mac! :)

As far as farmers whining about paying taxes; they need to educate themselves. They receive far more back than they pay into the system. I have seen many studies supporting this, such as this one: http://www.ibj.com/study-urban-tax-money-subsidizes-rural-counties/PARAMS/article/15690
  13. There's one in DC in Chinatown.
  14. Well, I guess Shelley Duncan can't beat the Tigers.
  15. "We" aren't hitting, Shelley Duncan is hitting. :)

Unlike the federal government, state and local governments are charged with providing for citizens' health, safety, and general welfare. I thought their only purpose was to do favors for those who contributed the most money to their campaigns?
  17. Speaking of WTF...did Fausto really just give up 7 runs while only managing to retire 4 batters?

There's way less than 300 million eligible voters (when you subtract out kids, felons, non-citizens, etc.) And more than 150 million drivers (many people share a car, such as households with 2 drivers and 1 car, or 4 drivers and 3 cars, etc.), so no, the ratio of voting drivers to voting non-drivers is not any closer to 1:1 than I would have expected. And saying non-drivers are concentrated in Phoenix...wha-what?!?!

If those who support mass transit are outnumbered by those who don't, then it doesn't even matter if they all vote. Saying they deserve what they get because they don't get out to vote as much is a lame attempt to shift the blame. By the way, maybe if people who rely on public transportation had better public transportation, they would be able to get out and vote more.

I was just about to write the same post and then saw you said the exact same thing (except I was going to add lobbyists to what they pay for). I'm not sure what any of that had to do with voting.
  21. jam40jeff replied to a post in a topic in General Transportation
And then when you vote, they say "Everyone voted and you lost, you have no right to complain."
  22. I agree. Also, how do other transit systems comply with ADA regulations without making their machines nearly impossible to use for about 95% of the population?
  23. If Des Moines can publish their GPS data to the web with that system, there's no excuse we shouldn't be (especially if RTA has already purchased the software and already has the GPS installed). Yes, the website is clunky and in general pretty much sucks, but it's still a million times better than having nothing.
  24. It's a great store. I bought way too much when I went there last time, and I still have a few different varieties I want to go back and buy. The Jalapeno popcorn was very good and the Cajun Cheddar was amazing.
  25. LOL, that's nuts if it's true.
