Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
We ate dinner at Zinc with another couple during Cleveland Independents Restaurant Week a couple weeks ago on a Thursday. The bar was moderately busy but there weren't many people in the rest of the restaurant. After reading some complaints about the place (mostly about service) online I was a little worried to go there. But the food and service were both very good. The waiter said they were much busier when it was nice outside (the patio is very popular). Also, we asked about the bakery and he said they are having a hard time finding a bakery chef, but they are hoping to open as soon as they find one.

Urgent: Need to choose: Bridgeview Apts vs 668 (Euclid)
If you're driving to work I don't see the need to do anything special. Most likely the parking lot/sidewalk will be plowed all but a few days. I just wear my regular clothes plus a coat (and maybe hat or hood) and it's not a problem. Just keep gloves and boots in the car in case you have car trouble.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I think everyone is blowing this Eric Wright stuff out of proportion ever since the Ravens game. Sure, Boldin torched him that game and he looked like a fool on 2 of the TD receptions (I don't know a corner in the league that would have made a play on the other, a perfectly placed ball high over the middle to a receiver with a big height advantage). But he's been under a microscope since then, and when you do that to a CB, I think you could find fault in almost anyone. All cornerbacks get beat sometimes. Just look what Dwayne Bowe did to a "lockdown corner" this week.

I guess Cincinnati and Columbus want to continue not having an example.

I can let you know right now: It doesn't work. But I'm not trying to convert anyone on this board. It's still the truth though.

Urgent: Need to choose: Bridgeview Apts vs 668 (Euclid)
Sorry, I revised my post while you were posting. The Colonial Arcade is actually between 668 and the Euclid Arcade, the arcade everyone knows across the street is "The Arcade" (also known as "The Old Arcade"). All these arcades get confusing. I read somewhere that we're the only city in the US to have 3 arcades downtown. EDIT: I just found a link for anyone who's interested in seeing what all 3 arcades look like. http://allthingsclevelandohio.blogspot.com/2008/08/clevelands-other-arcades.html

Urgent: Need to choose: Bridgeview Apts vs 668 (Euclid)
Not attached. It is accross Euclid Avenue and a a few addresses to the west. If I had to guess, the unit you are looking at is fronting Euclid and you can simply see the Euclid facade from your window. I don't believe there are 2nd floor windows on the west side of the building, which would be the only other side you would be able to see the Arcade from. The Colonial Arcade is on the same side (south) of Euclid as 668. The Colonial Arcade is between 668 and the Euclid Arcade. The Euclid Arcade is only one story, though, where the Colonial Arcade is two stories. I'm not too sure what the view would be of, though.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Yes, actually they are. Read the previous page in this thread. I agree, they are. And for good reason. They're letting themselves be brainwashed on this issue by the Republican machine. These "regular people" need to wake up and think for themselves.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
When I was watching the CWRU football game this past Saturday, the guy next to me (a Carnegie Mellon fan) exclaimed "wow, there's a lot of construction going on around here!" and also marveled at the "castle on the hill" (the Garfield Monument).

Thanks, I was just by there and I thought it looked like they were open. Do you know when they're moving (or if they still plan on it)? EDIT: I just found this on LoveLakewood.com: http://www.lovelakewood.com/blog/2010/06/28/lakewood-plaza-tops-in-delinquent-property-tax/ Interesting...

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I see where you're coming from, and I think you're accurately describing why many people object to the train ("I don't go to [insert other 3C city here] anyway, so why would I want this train?.") Of course, these people don't apply this logic to other massive infrastructure projects, like widening I-71 from Cleveland to Columbus, or rebuilding the I-70/I-71 interchange in downtown Columbus. I'm sure many of the people using this reasoning to oppose the train have never used and never will use this interchange either. I think what it boils down to is that the Republican machine has ingrained "TRAINS = SOCIALISM" into peoples' minds.

Claritin-D commercial
Yeah, an analog capture from the DVR is still going to be 1000x better than a video camera pointing at a TV screen. Maybe they don't have a capture card in their PC. Of course, you'd think they'd pick up a cheap one if putting commercial blocks on YouTube is such a big hobby of theirs.

I haven't been there, but I've heard some good things. Please report back with your opinion.

I don't like Hyde Park at all. I also haven't tried XO, but I'd like to. The best steak I've had around Cleveland was at Ferris Steakhouse, but I haven't been there for a couple years. Are they still on Detroit or did they move to the Gold Coast?

Currently sitting in the parking lot that is I71 in the middle of nowhere south of Mansfield (don't worry I'm not driving). Yeah, we don't need alternative ways to travel between our cities.

That makes sense. I think that's a good idea. Many people here don't follow that law anyway, and I don't think the law makes much sense.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I find everything at Ho Wah to be kind of plain. Their workers are not very friendly either. We ordered take-out from work one day (10 orders) and they made us all get the same type of rice because it would be "too confusing" to have some people get white rice and some get brown rice. Would they rather I called in 10 different times with 1 order each time? I much prefer Sun Luck Garden (hard to beat Annie's cooking) and Pearl of the Orient.

It helps to stay out of truckers' blind spots. Generally, if you can see his mirror, he can see you, and most truckers, regardless of what it sometimes seems, aren't homicidal maniacs. And if you encounter one who is, the horn isn't going to help. I just stay well away from trucks on the interstates whenever possible. If you've ever seen a truck throw a tire tread at 70mph, you'll understand why. Don't talk to me like I'm 16. I have a lot of experience driving (more than I'd like). I don't drive in blind spots, but sometimes things happen (especially in heavy traffic). Trucks may pass you, or you may start to pass a truck and then traffic slows ahead of you and you end up next to him for a few seconds. I'm not talking about driving in a truck's blind spot for a minute, but it's a requirement to be in the blind spot of a truck for at least a couple seconds when either you are passing the truck or the truck is passing you (unless you fly by the truck so fast you zoom right through the blind spot I guess). Also, of course there are plenty of times where another driver (and yes, SOMETIMES a truck) isn't paying enough attention and the horn lets him know that you are there, even if you weren't in the driver's blind spot. Trust me, I'm a very defensive driver. I am constantly looking for anything anyone else could do wrong on the road and having a mental plan for how I would react if they do it (I only pass if there's room for error if something goes wrong, etc.), but every once in a while there is still a need to alert someone else. But I see you're hell-bent on saying there's never a possibility that a horn is useful, so I'm not even sure why I'm trying to argue with you. What I will agree with is that most of the time the horn is used improperly. I saw this yesterday while I was getting gas at a busy intersection. In the time I filled my tank, I heard five horns, and all of them were "pissed-off horns", not constructive horns. And of course there's also the people that lay on the horn when the light turns green and the person in front of them doesn't move within a half second. But this again brings me to a reasonable use of the horn. If the guy in front of you is not paying attention at all (I have seen a few people sit through an entire cycle of a green light because they're not paying attention), a quick, light (informative, not angry) tap of the horn nearly always improves the situation, surely more than bumping the guy's car in front of you.

Five per month is kind of high, but I like the concept. If you're using your horn more than once or twice a month, you're likely using it the wrong way.

What is your degree?
That's exactly how the BSE degree works at CWRU. At CWRU they had two main cores, "Engineering" and "Arts and Flowers". :)
