  1. In addition to this, even COAST can learn from their mistakes. They have the Enquirer, some police and fire, suburbia, and 700wlw at their disposal. City council has got to secure those construction contracts otherwise they are playing with fire.
  2. Ya from what John said earlier, I guess a lot of it just takes time. Very frustrating Ugh this is what I was afraid of. I don't understand how they can form another ballot initiative on the exact same thing that was shot down a year ago. They had their chance to word it however they wanted to.
  3. What was their basis for reporting this? Anything to back it up? No basis whatsoever. They said (Paraphrasing what they said after they announced the 3c money was going to California and other states) "And the Cincinnati streetcar just received an additional $35 million dollars for funding from Ohio's department of Transportation. Meanwhile, John Kasich and his administration have made it clear that they do not support the project and will attempt to stop it by March" Also, it should be noted that Kasich's pick for the new ODOT director recently was a vice president at an asphalt industry lobbying association. (I don't know if that will have any bearing on this recent transaction or not but I think it will be pretty safe to assume neither will support the project)
  4. 700 just reported/'cheerleaded' that kasich is actively trying to kill the project before march....
  5. *Updated* Cincinnati will get $35 million in state money for the first phases of its streetcar project, the Ohio Department of Transportation said Thursday. “We’re ready to go,’’ Mayor Mark Mallory said of the $128 million electric rail project, connecting Uptown with Downtown. “The $35 million means we’re done asking for money.’’ :-D http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20101209/NEWS0108/312090090/More-money-for-streetcar
  6. I could be wrong, I think their goal is to delay construction with stupid stuff like this until november(where they can try some other form of ballot initiative). A desperate COAST/Smitherman means they will try everything and anything
  7. There's only one thing that will shut them up : construction Unfortunately, I don't know the time table for that
  8. Streetcar Foes Target Berding "In a new effort to block the Cincinnati streetcar and redirect some of its money to save city jobs, the Fraternal Order of Police, the local firefighters' union, the NAACP and other groups are pressuring Councilman Jeff Berding over what they describe as his flip-flop support for the streetcar issue." http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20101209/NEWS0108/12100329 They just don't give up. They will keep trying and trying until construction starts
  9. Streetcar, Bridge up for more money http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20101209/NEWS0108/312090090/Streetcar-bridge-up-for-more-money
  10. Ohio and Wisconsin money to go Elsewhere http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20101209/NEWS0108/312090089/Ohio-rail-money-to-go-elsewhere Thanks Kasich (Kay-sick)
  11. The more this thing gets delayed or construction doesn't start, the more opportunity there is to derail it(pardon the pun) Literally all the big media in this town is extremely opposed to it and they are using all their resources to fight this streetcar. Everything is just about in place, its just a matter of getting things started. Or else clowns like Smitherman, Luken, and COAST will take advantage of their opportunity to end it

Wow. The Enquirer actually wrote a negative piece about Kasich. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20101119/EDIT01/11210325/Kasich-can-t-privatize-the-public-s-right-to-know
  13. Streetcar supporters strike back http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2010/11/19/going-bananas-for-the-streetcar/ Going BANANAS for the Streetcar "Here’s their group description: “Just imagine how much money the city would have for cops and firefighters if we had never built all those expensive sewers, bridges, and paved streets. After all, the city exists to serve the police and firefighters, not the other way around. Down with infrastructure! I’m forming a group called BANANAS: Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anyone, Stupid! The Enquirer has already agreed to give us a fawning front page article. Who’s with me?”
  14. Streetcar Utility Costs Could Soar http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20101119/BIZ01/11200328/Streetcar-s-utility-costs-could-soar I feel more confident too after reading what John says. The big media in this town though is just so dead set against it
  15. The longer construction keeps becoming delayed, the better the chance gets for opponents to kill the project. I thought construction was supposed to start this month? Now its early 2011?
  16. Nope. The Disquieter will turn it into the streetcar's deathknell. Exactly. Expect to see it on the front page of the Enquirer today
  17. It's the final stretch. Construction, if all goes well, starts very soon. So that means desperation from COAST, Luken, the Enquirer, and 700 Wlw. I would expect an all out blitz of anti streetcar messages/articles/shows/editorials/letters/opinion pieces etc.
  18. Make no mistake about it, the Enquirer and 700 are launching an all out/last ditch effort assault against the streetcar projects in the hopes it can stop it at the last second.
  19. So Cincinnati.com and WLW will both report over 500 people attended
  20. Sadly, this does not surprise me. O/u on the amount of times the word "Boondoggle" is said? Im going with 97

The voting gap is widening -- not closing. Ya...Looks like the gap is insurmountable at this point. Strickland would have to win the remaining democratic counties by a landslide to pull even
  22. NBow37 replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
Not sure but a TON of votes still left in Montgomery, Lucas and Cuyahoga(I've heard as high as 350,000 but cannot confirm that). Also some in Franklin as well
  23. NBow37 replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
Only about Half of Cuyahoga County and None of Lucas counted. Factor those in and this race is gonna be EXTREMELY close...
  24. Horstman comes out swinging again...Surprise surprise. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20101028/NEWS0108/10290338/Lawyer-wants-ethics-action-on-Bortz "Accusing Cincinnati City Councilman Chris Bortz of ignoring advice from the Ohio Ethics Commission to avoid involvement in discussions on the $128 million streetcar project, a local lawyer wants the state panel to remove Bortz from office. In a three-page letter supported by transcripts and videotapes of recent council sessions, lawyer Tim Mara argues that Bortz's actions at those meetings demonstrate that "advice, warnings, admonitions, directives and public outcry about his conduct are ineffective" in keeping him on the sidelines in discussion over the city's streetcar project...."
