Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Interesting approach...I wonder what the reasoning behind it is? 3 reporters? Wow, they are going all out. I hope they are fair with the coverage and look at it objectively. Hard to believe that will be the case though

Will it be an anonymous "editorial" again?

2010 Gubernatorial Election
Kasich up 8 points over Strickland in a recent Rasmussen Poll that came out today http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2010/election_2010_governor_elections/ohio/election_2010_ohio_governor

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Democrats generally don't share the same enthusiasm during midterm elections as republicans(at least that's the historical trend). Then you factor in that nobody likes the incumbents at the moment. Who knows though....There's a lot of time between now and November. But this one will be a battle til the end

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Looks like Kasich has a lot of momentum at the moment, at least according to the latest Reuters Poll. 48%-39% http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE67957M20100810

Good Lord I've never seen so many people on Cincinnati.com whine about something they have no idea about. Constant negativity on that site

Great rebuttal against COAST, Jake Mecklenborg. Well written as usual

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Here's a recent COAST quote: "Probably because he knows what he is talking about. While mayor, Luken led the buyout of Cincinnati Transit and kept the same low fares for about fifteen years. Later as a congressman, he chaired the powerful House Transportation Subcommittee which controls all motor and rail legislation. He literally set transit policy for the entire nation for over a decade. He is "Mr. Transit" in this town. And he hates the streetcar plan. That should tell you something." The first response to this comment was: "Yes. That he's a demented old man" Haha. Anyways, isn't that a flat out lie? He didn't keep "the same low fares" for 15 years

I can't deal with these angry anti-streetcar letters anymore. They are all the same. "Why are we using outdated technology", "Streetcars went away for a reason," "Lets test out painted buses first", blah blah blah. Hopefully initial construction can start soon so these people can stop writing this mumbo jumbo.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Well I was gonna do an over/under of 10 comments with COAST (how many posts before COAST chimed in the comment section) and on that comment whether or not they use the word "boondoggle". Looks like I was too late. COAST was the first comment and said something about the sheriff always liking tax paid boondoggles

Since they know project will be built, the naysayers are now jumping on board and trying to dictate where it should go. I don't know if that is a tactic to stall the project in the hopes that it will ultimately not get built but its getting to be absurd. The 1st phase has been studied, critiqued by all, and nitpicked ad nauseam for years. They had their chance to add their two cents. Instead, they spent it deriding the project, using misinformation to scare people, and calling everyone names. I don't know about Mcknight's prior position, but judging on his previous letters to the Enquirer, I would venture to guess he was/is against the streetcar project. I also don't know why the Enquirer picked him out of everyone in the area to quote. If he is sincere in his critique of the plan, I sincerely apologize. But given the Enquirer's track record against this project, I have my doubts

Didn't the enquirer article a couple weeks ago literally answer some of these questions? What is going on over there?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Bingo. When gas was at or near $4.00 that one summer, the tune was completely different. How quickly people forget things when they are comfortable. I even heard Bill Cunningham clamoring about why we don't have a rail system during that summer. Apparently he forgot that in 2002 he campaigned against it saying "It will bring thugs to Indian Hill and your neighborhood."

Sorry to interrupt the intense conversation, but SoapboxMedia interviewed the owner of the Moerlein Lager House being constructed on the Banks. In it he specifically mentions the streetcar. "Hardman also says that the Moerlein Lager House will be connected to historic Over-the-Rhine through the Cincinnati Streetcar which is scheduled to start construction in fall 2010 and begin operations approximately one year after the brewpub opens. 'The streetcar is a great vehicle that will enhance development and link us to Over-the-Rhine and Uptown," Hardman said. "When you can hook up a world-class park with the University of Cincinnati, and everything in between, it will be a great economic driver. While the streetcar was not the only factor in our decision making process, it was certainly one of the reasons we wanted to locate in both of these areas.' Its interesting how Sloan on 700 was completely for the streetcar from December - June, and now when he gets the show in his morning spot he is dead set against it in every which way.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Looks like its WW37 in the comment section again. One person is calling the Enquirer a "leftist communist newspaper" because they think it is supporting the streetcar. Absolute chaos

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
A look at the streetcar, spring 2013 BY BARRY M. HORSTMAN • [email protected] • JULY 10, 2010 Sometime in the spring of 2013, Cincinnatians should be able to board a sleek new streetcar on the Downtown riverfront, sit back as the center city and Over-the-Rhine roll by, and after a smooth climb uphill to Clifton, hop off about 20 minutes later on the fringes of the University of Cincinnati. The trip will probably cost a dollar or two, there will no driving headaches en route and riders will presumably arrive at their destinations relaxed and calm, not still seething over that idiot who cut them off at Liberty and Vine. That, at least, is the rosy scenario of supporters of the proposed $128 million streetcar system that this week got a definitive green light when a $25 million U.S. Transportation Department grant filled most of the gap in the project's first-phase construction budget..... http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100710/NEWS0108/7110321/A-look-at-the-streetcar-spring-2013

Ghiz will be on Cunningham in 6 minutes to presumably talk about the streetcar. Naturally, I tuned in just in time to hear Bill Cunningham proclaim that Obama hates white people

I’m still fully convinced that a lot of those duplicate accounts are pro-streetcar people trying to make anti-streetcar people look insane. That or someone who wants the Enquirer to get rid of comment sections altogether. Nobody is that insane, it has to be a double agent of some sort. I share the same opinions on that subject. Anyways, the streetcar will be built. It's a great day. The enquirer will release a flurry of anti streetcar letters and editorials while 700 does their thing. It doesn't matter anymore. They said the exact same things about fountain square. They know its coming. I would imagine, deep down, that they will put away their pride and work together with everyone to ensure that this streetcar succeeds for the good of the city. If not than we will know where they really stand

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Would you expect anything less? It appears the COASTers have created multiple screen names in a last ditch effort to try and convince everyone the world is ending because of a streetcar in downtown Cincinnati (Judging by the constant use of "boondoggle" and "Trolley-folly".
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Agreed. Lets get this construction going. Luken's quotes make it seem like the end of the world is upon us.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
What can we expect for tomorrow (My predictions): From the Enquirer: 1)An editorial questioning the streetcar and federal government in general 2) An abundance of letters condemning the project (small minority in favor) From 700: 1) Eddie and Tracy bashfest (although they will probably invite a member from city council that is in support of it to call in and interview) 2) Sloan will re-affirm his opinion that the streetcar makes sense with all the development going on downtown especially the casino (possibly have a guest but I doubt it) 3) Cunningham will attack it using the usual scare tactics (crime)

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Is anyone else getting the impression the Enquirer is reading this site heavily? They literally just changed their article to include bfwissel's 90% comment instead of 3 quarters.
