Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Mallory will have a press conference at 2pm to promote streetcars. Article talks aobut how it will be on the November ballot. If thats the case, it will be shot down because 700 and the media outlets have absolutely been on the attack against the city the last 10 years http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090728/NEWS0108/307240040/Mallory+promoting+streetcar+plan

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Good Lord, what is 700's problem with the city???? Constantly ripping on any and every project the city presents. Deters just went off on the "trolleys". What is their agenda against the city??? The comments under the stories on cincinnati.com are unbelievable. It seems like everyone in the area is reactive instead of proactive in regards to the city (which they probably don't live in anyways)...

I agree. I dont understand why they can't start phase 1 and research the line into uptown at the same time...maybe i'm missing something. i'd rather do both at the same time then wait an undefined amount of time completely halting the process and therefore increasing the probabilities of anything going wrong (price tag, more time and resources for the opposing view to persuade others, etc). The timing of this qualls motion from left field has had me as well as others perplexed for some time. I realize the importance of a good study and getting things right, however the momentum for this project to get done is great right now. who knows what will happen in a year. 2 years. 3 years.

Im nervous now that this "study" will take another year...all while the prices of EVERYTHING continues to go up

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
if this doesn't persuade the people against light rail and better public transportation to join our fight, nothing will. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080301/BIZ/803010340/-1/CINCI Gas could hit 4 a gallon by spring...

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
You know whats even worse is cincinnati is going to be surrounded by casinos now. Kentucky just passed an amendment to add 7 casinos (including 2 in Northern Kentucky). So now Ohioans will be able to see money drive, literally, from cincy to Covington....

true. but this makes me nervous. this is gonna turn into a major delay...

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
the problem is that if the streetcar were to fail, light rail will be at least a decade away, probably more I know. and thats what scares me...once people see the benefit of streetcars, its only logical to progress to the next step and connect the burbs to the center

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
what if they made the crowd 640 feet and the building 20 feet?
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
i'm just glad some of this conservative "we dont need to change" attitude that a lot of cincinnatians have is finally starting to go out the window. a streetcar is a definite start. hopefully cincinnati can add light rail in the not so far distant future

when i was in jersey for business last year, i got on the 7am train from parsipanny(dont know if thats how you spell it) to penn station. Packed with business people, school kids, tourists, etc. Parsipanny was about 30 miles from the city i believe. but it was amazing to see public transportation at its finest....

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Agreed...I can't think of many. NYC, Vegas with the monorail on the strip, Chicago, etc all do. I guess LA doesn't have effective rail at the moment, but they are actively working and building new lines. Any city overseas has rail. You right, theres not many top notch tourist destinations without a rail plan...

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Cincinnati has the potential to become huge again, but there are certain individuals in office who are against any form of change. Its the mentality of people like that who are the sole reason for our decline the last 40 years. If we'd actually be more progressive as opposed to reactive, our city would be thriving. with traffic and rising gas prices etc, why dont more people see that public transportation is the way of the future...
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Not only that, I hope he mentions the need for a more extensive public transportation system (rail) before the sprawl/traffic gets more out of hand. Cincinnati needs to think ahead of the time for once instead of waiting for the problem to occur then dealing with it. I realize it didn't pass before, but given the state of our city and rising gas prices as well as increased traffic, i think people are starting to take notice. start small in an area that will appreciate and use it(from hyde park to downtown or something) and then build on that success

Dayton: Air & Space Virtual World Theme Park & Hotel
i just don't understand why people are against it. if it happens, good for dayton. it will be an icon. i just don't get the "it wont fit in the skyline argument." how often does an opportunity for the us's tallest hotel come around in a city not named las vegas, new york city, or chicago.

i was just joking about the whole german thing. then it just took off and ran. anyways, the huge giant pig is hilarious.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
The French Quarter though was an authentic French enclave in NO just like OTR was a traditional German enclave in Cincy. The city doesn't need to build a new German quarter but rather rehab the one it has. oh ok...didn't know the history really behind it. either way, german architecture would be so unique and completely cincy. call it little germany or something. but ya, i don't really care now, i just want to see some dirt moved!
