Not Quite Twilight For Banks, Officials Say POSTED: 7:52 pm EDT June 6, 2007 UPDATED: 7:59 pm EDT June 6, 2007 Email This Story | Print This Story Sign Up for Breaking News Alerts CINCINNATI -- It’s back to the drawing board for the Banks. Planners said the $600 million development could still move forward after the company that was supposed to pay for it backed out, but the repeated delays have created a lot of skeptics. “It’s pretty much a joke,” said one downtowner. AIG Global Real Estate announced Tuesday that it was pulling out of the long-planned riverfront development, and a county official said they bowed out in large part because of unachievable demands by minority interests. Minority groups, like the NAACP, have criticized the Banks project for a lack of African-American participation, and some members of the organization called for contracts and jobs for minorities. First On 5: Banks Project Developers To Change Investment Partner AIG Appears To Be Out POSTED: 5:27 pm EDT June 5, 2007 UPDATED: 7:39 am EDT June 6, 2007 Email This Story | Print This Story Sign Up for Breaking News Alerts CINCINNATI -- One half of the Atlanta-based team that has been negotiating with the Banks Working Group to develop Cincinnati's central riverfront may be pulling out as an equity partner. Robert Castellini, chairman of the Working Group, released a statement Tuesday confirming that Carter is pursuing other investment partners to replace AIG Global Real Estate. Castellini gave no explanation for why AIG might be pulling out as an equity partner, but he said that the Working Group does not anticipate any "insurmountable obstacles to making a master development agreement a reality." Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
CINCINNATI -- If backers have their way, streetcars could appear on Cincinnati streets within the next five years. The city is looking at a system similar to one installed in Tampa, Fla., where it's brought $1.1 billion into Tampa's coffers. "This is not about determining whether the city can afford this investment. The question is, can we afford not to take this incredible opportunity to unlock the potential of our city?" City Councilman Chris Bortz said. The proposed system would cost just short of $90 million to create 3.9 miles of track, buy six streetcars and build a maintanence facility. The streetcar route would run between Great American Ballpark and Over-the-Rhine. If all goes according to plan, people may be able to hit the rails by 2012.

i like it. its unique and the national media will eat it up. I don't like the traditional look for every building. its one of a kind- Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Agreed. but the museum is financially struggling because of a lack of ANYTHING around it. The reds stadium is lacking attendance mostly because they stink, but some due to the fact that there are no restaurants, bars, or living space around it. Imagine if we had our own wrigleyville there, the museum would be getting way more attendance as well as the reds EVERY DAY. Bengals, of course, will sell out any day of the week. "If you build it, they will come" unfortunately we haven't gotten to the build part yet. and yes, if its delayed again, castellini better jump into the water- Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
True Rando. The population is shifting west and south due to whatever reason (Weather, new start, job, etc). that also is a factor. but cities in the west and south are striving for light rail. in the northeast public transportation has already been solid for awhile. but your right, midwest cities are struggling right now minus chicago and minneapolis and Cbus. however, in the midwest, pittsburgh, minneapolis, chicago, st louis, and cleveland all have some form of organized public transportation besides buses right now. effective 100% of the time, not really. but seeing how its starting to change my old city of LA as we speak and other "newer" cities, i've been sold to the effectiveness and i think we all are.- Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
So quick with the updates! one of these days i'll beat you to it rando- Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
On a totally different tune, i filled up my mom's car today. $47.00. I wonder if we had the same vote for light rail this year as we did back in 2002, if there would be a ton more people in favor. It's getting ridiculous the amount of gas prices and traffic. I just don't understand why cincinnati continues to be light years behind every other city in this area- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
oh believe me, it'd rather have 10 girls paint letters on their chest, but i don't think that would be likely...in all seriousness, i'll see if i can come- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
what if we got 10 guys and painted each letter of streetcars on our chest. we'd be like the bleacher bums at GABP...then we'd probably get tasered by Cincy PD- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I'll go...24 years old. i could bring some people- Newport, KY: Ovation

Interesting article in US News and World Magazine...Talks about what a ton of cities across the US are trying to do due to the amount of traffic on the roads today. Thought you guys might be interested...its rather lengthy (5 pages) so read at your own pace! http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/070429/7gridlock.htm- Newport, KY: SouthShore Condominiums
Rando you are quick with the updates! On target.- Newport, KY: Ovation
ya but downtown cincy was pretty dead the other night. went to main street sat night, no lines for anything. sully's as the most crowded, mcfaddens was actually dead too.- Newport, KY: Ovation
Can you give us a few links for this info? ... and remember growth does not equal highrise/skyscraper construction. They aren't dependent on each other. Agreed. but look at the location. they are using cincinnati's skyline to their advantage. they have a great entertainment scene. its on the river. High Rise Condominiums are the future. obviously i'm not saying it with 100% certainty. I'm just speculating. I apologize for getting everyone upset, i'm just stating my opinion. Lets focus on the ovation for now- Newport, KY: Ovation
Seriously...they definitely want to showcase themselves. Remember, Northern Kentucky is one of the metro's fastest growing areas. either way, it wouldn't be a bad thing in the area.- Newport, KY: Ovation
Interesting....I think Northern Kentucky might soon have the tallest building in the greater cincinnati area...I could see them try to one up cincinnati- Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Excellent work.- Norwood: Development and News
How much more money do they want?!? they already are getting a ton more than what its worth?!?? The neighborhood is gone. I could understand if there was a neighborhood left, but cmon, theres nothing, they don't live there, the offer is more generous than anything they will ever get. Any citizen of Norwood knows the community needs the revenue and needs the finances to better the city. Its just being selfish at this point- Newport, KY: Ovation
Any new updates on this rando? has a start date been set? is the land cleared? I haven't heard anything about this for awhile, hopefully its not dead - Covington, KY: The Ascent at Roebling's Bridge
