So you think it is the duty of legislatures to give an up/down vote on proposed legislation? I would agree with that... I think its childish but we're seeing the exact same complaint that republicans complained about. The bill was introduced friday evening and they wanted a vote immediately. This whole thing is all about politics on both sides.

So let me get this straight. Correct me if I'm wrong. Wisconsin was on track to have a budget surplus this year according to their non partisan "assess the finance" agency of $120 million. Walker gave around $140 million dollars worth of business tax breaks when he got to office. Now there is a $137 million dollar shortfall. WTF is going on up there?

Could what's happening in Wisconsin right now happen to Ohio next? http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20032992-503544.html Sure looks like Ohioans are gearing up fights over workers rights just like Wisconsin is doing. Up to 1800 now and steadily rising http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2011/02/hundreds_descend_on_ohio_state.html

So Kasich calls the cop an idiot twice during the same week that he is pressing for an end to collective bargaining? This is gonna get interesting “Every officer is going to take offense to that,” Columbus Fraternal Order of Police president Jim Gilbert told Columbus’ NBC4. “It’s always going to be in the back of the minds of police officers from this point on.”
  5. http://www.local12.com/news/local/story/Cincinnati-Streetcar-Stops-Announced/0JnvYqyEz0mcphyHwgW61Q.cspx Good video from Channel 12 on the streetcar stops. Thanks for the info Quimbob! We should send it to Horstman and the editors at the Enquirer
  6. So opponents are officially waiting until November. The legality of this now comes into play. Construction on the streetcar will be under way for many months before this is even put to the vote. Anyone have pics or videos of the event tonight?
  7. Anyone else notice this "slipup" in the article? "the streetcar project also faces several other potential obstacles, the most notable being opponents' plans to place a charter amendment on the November ballot that would forbid the city from building or operating the system." Now I could be reading too much into this, but I believe this reveals some insight: 1) It could be a misprint(which I find not possible because the opposition and the Enquirer are in constant contact. They'd get an important fact like "ballot initiative in may" right) 2) The opposition is having a real tough time getting enough signatures in the time period stated 3) It's all smoke and mirrors from the opposition Regardless, CFP - John - and the rest are doing a great job being prepared for any and every situation. I wish I could be at the party tonight. Can't wait to see the video
  8. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/v7sSEERTjKY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Regional Priority - Cincinnati Streetcar New streetcar video.
  9. Very true. That under 30 demographic was crucial in 2008 for Obama, and the lack of the under 30 demographic really helped republican steamroll of 2010. Its also important to note that if one wants to vote for this May 3rd ballot, you have to register 30 days in advance. http://www.electionsonthe.net/oh/register.htm
  10. The twitter universe is exploding with pro-streetcar people. Its incredible. There's some enlightening and funny people all over the city. Its great to see. I think COAST has awakened a sleeping giant. Some of these tweets are great. "If Chris Finney, Chris Smitherman, Eric Deters, and Tom Luken were in a band, what would the name be? The Four Flops? MISS? The Bores?"
  11. Doc thompson had Tom Luken on today and talked about the project again for an hour. Needless to say, this is the opposition's strategy. 700 and The Enquirer over and over and over again. This is pretty much all they are doing.
  12. Brace yourself. The worst poll in the history of polls has just come out. Given to the enquirer by Finney http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2011/02/10/a-new-streetcar-survey/
  13. Thompson from 700wlw devoted an hour to streetcar opponents today. I didn't want to waste my time listening to it since its probably the same old misinformation from COAST
  14. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2011/02/08/city-pushes-ahead-with-streetcar-project/ Here we go. 24/7 streetcar blitz from the Enquirer
  15. I figured out what I did wrong. I typed in Ohio instead of just Oh. Doh
  16. New article: http://cincinnati.com/blogs/opinionati/2011/02/04/streetcar-opponents-trying-to-kill-project-at-state-level/ "Ah, that blessed streetcar… It just can’t catch a break. Hoping to benefit from Ohio’s new governor’s fiscally conservative approach to rail, streetcar opponents are being urged to write to Ohio’s Transportation Review Advisory Council (TRAC) in effort to have the Kasich administration withdrawal $51.8 million from the streetcar project, which might jeopardize its future. But, streetcar advocates were on the job, urging their backers to also write in letters of encouragement for the beleaguered project......"
  17. I sent an email to them yesterday, no problems. I don't know WTF is going on. It won't allow me to email from my hotmail account. I'm sure COAST is behind it somehow :-D
  18. Anyone else having trouble with trac's email address? I received a notification of failure to deliver

"Kasich wondered aloud why Cincinnati’s main airport is located in Kentucky and even suggested that business travelers use Cincinnati’s Lunken Airport instead. " http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110201/BIZ01/302010020/Kasich-on-CVG-Get-it-fixed

Why even say it though Kasich? Now he's got a serious problem on his hands. Hes already under fire for the first all white cabinet in 50 years and then he makes this off the cuff dumb comment. Whatever his intentions were, he's got a serious PR nightmare at the moment otherwise he wouldn't feel the need to disclose that he appointed a black women the Director of Minority Affairs today when she has had the position for over a month.

Fair enough. It definitely could be an honest misunderstanding(which I think it is - I think he was referring to Democrats). But you can see how it can be interpreted the complete opposite way by Nina Turner though in the context of his statement. She's pretty fired up. Now the story is getting legs across the country on all the major media outlets...
  23. Then you should care because he can do something about the funding. But there should be consequences for pulling back funding for the state highest-ranked transportation project. I was not aware he could do anything legally about it? I had no idea
  24. NBow37 replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
Yes. His staff member claims he was referring to Democrats.
