The new massing reminds me of Midtown Tower in Rochester.

The charter adopted by Cuyahoga County several years ago gives the county all the powers of a home-rule municipality. It cannot provide the services of a municipality in a municipality that doesn't want it to, but if, say, the residents of a municipality voted to dissolve, the county could assume the day-to-day running of the place in the same way that a city government would. It would make more sense for the county to develop this capability than it would for East Cleveland to be annexed to Cleveland.

New Jersey is the most densely populated state, but its population per square mile is about 1,200, not 7,500.

KJP, I think it is valid to have misgivings about this project. It would be more accurate to say that, if this project doesn't happen, then there may be another, though it may not be during any of our lifetimes.

When Severance was originally developed, the mall owner owned the ring road, but it became a public right-of-way when the mall was renovated sometime around 2000.

NYS is recommending that the elevated section of I-81 be removed from downtown Syracuse. I think this is a great decision, but it will still be important to do it right. Here is a link: https://www.syracuse.com/opinion/2019/04/community-grid-is-the-right-choice-to-replace-i-81-editorial.html.

I like the overhead wires and don't understand people's obsession with removing them.

I am a frequent customer of both anchor stores at University Square and will be glad to see improvements to the property. The original plan for the redevelopment of the May's on the Heights site was a great idea, but it was poorly executed. I hope the new leadership in University Heights will insist on a better re-design than what was shown in today's Plain Dealer.

I don't know if Floun'say Caver would, in the long run, be the visionary leader I would like to see at RTA, but I think he is a great choice to lead RTA in other ways. His approach is serious and systematic.

I like the new townhouses under construction at Columbus and Abbey, but the ones at Columbus and Freeman are crazy patchworks of materials and shapes. I hope the era of patchwork architecture will not last too much longer.

My username followed Rob Pence's format. I can't remember the number in his username, but I know it was his address on Washington Boulevard in the West Central neighborhood of Fort Wayne. I was acquainted with Rob, who is stilled missed on UO, when I lived in West Central back in the nineties. The 908 is my address in Cleveland Heights, though, rather than my old address in Fort Wayne.

I remember the nice old building that used to be where the CVS is now located. It seems that South Euclid once had a substantial downtown-like commercial district along Mayfield. It is sad to see how it has become just another suburban strip.

Meadowbrook and Top of the Hill are still great development sites, despite the setbacks.

I would love to see something like this come to fruition. I think University Square was a good idea but somewhat poorly executed. A redevelopment like this could correct the original mistakes. It would be great if Macy's and Target would remain in place.

I don't really think anyone "just abandoned" Buffalo Metro Rail. There is a relentless narrative that the subway line has not been successful but no evidence of that being true. The poorly designed downtown transit mall, where the train emerges from the subway and travels through downtown at street level, was never a design success, but the block-by-block return of one lane of car traffic in each direction (the same lanes that are used by the trains), a process that also includes new stations and the removal of many of the unattractive mid-80s flourishes, has started to transform lower Main Street. I think Buffalo is a bit behind Cleveland in its downtown renaissance, but certain successful parts of town like Allentown and Elmwood Avenue are not recent phenomena. Elmwood has been a great street for at least 50 years.

I think Battle Creek and Jackson are virtually the same size, despite their differing official population counts. The City of Battle Creek merged with Battle Creek Township in the 1980s and, as a result, has a land area nearly four times that of Jackson's. If I recall correctly, Kellogg's pushed for the merger--I think maybe even to the point of threatening to leave if the voters did not approve it.
