Youngstown: Restaurant News & Info
dawn41778 replied to YtownNewsandViews's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI found a restuarant that makes Puerto Rican food, finally!! It is called Papa's and it is located in Boardman. The address is 980 Mathews Rd, right off of South Ave. They are more known for their New York style pizza, but they make all kinds of Puerto Rican food. Their pastellios are really good.

dawn41778 replied to YtownNewsandViews's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentRight now they are going to Western Reserve Middle School until the new Parkman School is built. I have one child in 4th and the other in 7th. I heard about the auditorium, I thought they was saving it. The old high school is beautiful. My husband has talked about getting his aunts to move here from Puerto Rico to open a restaurant, they can help me cook! Sounds like a good idea... What school will your kids go to? Are they in HS already? I work for the architecture firm that is building the new Willard PK-8. We are also trying to save the center auditorium of the old Warren HS. (the current superintendant isn't keen on the idea) No Puerto Rican restaurants in the area... it sounds like a business opportunity to me.

dawn41778 replied to YtownNewsandViews's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentWarren City now, was in Lorain City. I know some say Warren schools aren't too great either. But I've heard they have an excellent sports and honors programs. Both things my kids are interested in. They are building all new schools too. Now if they would just build a Puerto Rican restaurant.........

dawn41778 replied to YtownNewsandViews's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & Entertainmentlol! you see what happens when you leave lorain homegirl?!! hey i have a question, sorry it wont help you now, but i saw a new pr restaurant on broadway last month when i visited, maybe you know that one? did you get to check it out? Are you talking about El Coqui? I haven't been there. Everytime I drive by it was closed and when it was opened, there was hardly anyone inside- not a good sign. I always preferred Rainbows on Pearl Ave, on the Southside of Lorain. I was in Lorain yesterday and we went to El Kefon, the new buffet they opened on the Eastside. It was pretty good, but didn't care too much for the rice. It tasted old and burnt. I wonder if Akron has any Puerto Rican restaurants. And about leaving Lorain, I'll give up the P.R. restaurants to get out of there! Lived there my whole life and I couldn't wait to leave. There is nothing to do and it just keeps getting worse and worse. I have two children also, and the city schools are terrible. Especially now that they laid off about 250 teachers and will not have art, gym, or music class in the elementary schools. They are even talking about making the school day an hour shorter. Yet, they have money to build three new schools. Hopefully life is better here in Warren, if not, next move is to Puerto Rico!

dawn41778 replied to YtownNewsandViews's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI moved to the NW side of Warren. I can't believe there are no Puerto Rican restuarants around here! I guess I better start cooking... Does anyone know of any stores that sell Latin food products, other than the basics like Goya? Also, can anyone reccommend a good meat market?

dawn41778 replied to YtownNewsandViews's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI was born and raised in Lorain, the southside. Thats where I am moving from. I know all about El Kefon(which is now a buffet), Primos, and Rainbows. Castillo Grande is a mexican restuarant, but still very good. I have been to many in Cleveland, just hoping there was something out in the Y-Town area. I can cook alot of the food myself, but it is nice to go out and get it sometimes.

dawn41778 replied to YtownNewsandViews's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentHi, My family and I recnetly moved to Warren. We are looking for a place that cooks some good puerto rican food in the Warren/Youngstown area. We have found plenty of mexican restuarants, but we want some good rice&beans and pastellios. Cleveland has a few good places, just hoping there was something closer to us. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Jamie's Flea Market is cool, use to go every Saturday. As for Lorain, it sucks. Lived there all my life and it is not worth taking pics of! Sorry for being negative, but there is just nothing in Lorain. can't wait to get out of here!!
