Ohio: General Business & Economic News
http://www.milkeninstitute.org/nahightech/nahightech.taf?rankyear=2007 Columbus is doing better than the rest in the state. Ranked #45 I do think all of the 3 C's should double their employment to make a dent in the rankings and improve the state economic rankings.

Is your money with Key, Huntington, Fifth/Third....
So is everyone saying regional banks are too big and you would support your local bank even though some of those themselves are regional banks?

De-Annexation News & Discussion
Annexation into the City of Cincinnati A major change occurred in the village in 1896 when it was annexed into the City of Cincinnati. By then, the population was growing rapidly. That year also brought the end of passenger service from the Cincinnati & Westwood Railroad although it continued to carry freight until 1924. Transportation continued to be an issue that impacted Westwood. Electric streetcars, which were part of the reason for the failure of the railroad, were shuttling people back and forth to the city by 1900. At that time, just over 2000 people called Westwood home. In 1908, the opening of a viaduct over the Mill Creek improved the chances that one could cross the valley without risking life and limb. This viaduct was replaced with a new one in 1932. By then Westwood was a bustling suburb. In 1940, the population had expanded to about 11,000 with a steady increase after that. Much has changed in the 200 years since James Goudy built his log cabin. While walking down the tree lined streets today, one may find it difficult to envision the woods and meadows that greeted Mr. Goudy. Or the widely spaced farms and estates that followed. It you look carefully, you can still see remnants of old Westwood - old farmhouses amid newer homes, and berms from the old railroad, and grand old homes that have survived. Twenty-first century Westwood may look different but its location and green hills still appeal to the many people who call Westwood home. http://www.westwoodcivic.org/about.php

^Agreed. Has any neighborhood anywhere ever seceded from a city?

Dayton: NCR
I wonder what the business world think of NCR now. I'm sure CEO's talk. Their profits has been less and less yearly. Who would want to buy it?
-
Dayton: NCR
I don't think it's at all about high Ohio taxes. If that was the case every F1000 company in Ohio would be looking elsewhere for a location to better fit their needs.

Graduating in an economic downturn...
^Or use your education and start a small business.

GDP would take huge hit losing a f500 company. What about all the spin off companies in the area that supply their parts? Should they jump ship too or raise their prices for shipping everything further away. I wonder how Kroger's feel about this. Surely they are a big customer also.

Not Even Tornadoes Will Go to Downtown Cincinnati?
true, but don't you think there is a siren fatigue danger? i mean, i don't pay them much attention anymore and i've only been exposed to them for a couple years. back home they only turn on the sirens if the **** is about to hit the fan. Heck, i got one of those weather radios and the damn thing went off every 10 minutes last Saturday because of warnings in every part of the metro area except mine. Eventually i just turned it off. If you don't pay attention to them and you die. That's your fault.

It makes you wonder why Georgia didn't go after a company in Falif with many F500 companies yet chooses a city with it's last f500 company to be had and a state that's been draining jobs. They want to throw a dagger into Ohio. I think Ohio needs to do the same to them and start taking their companies with HUGE incentives.

Dayton: NCR
Atlanta seems like one big Ponzi scheme. Needing to bring in companies to keep the scheme going.

Whats the myspace pages about???

Dayton: NCR
^ I didn't know they were hiring period. Ohio need to goto all their f1000 companies and offer them all incentives to bring their production, distribution and advertising facilities inside Ohio.

Dayton: NCR
That article piss me off. In a lousy economy in which Perdue and legislators have cut the state budget by nearly $3 billion, questions arise as to the economic necessity of plying wealthy Fortune 500 companies with tax breaks. “It is absolutely a great investment for Georgia,” Tyrer said. “It will be a net positive for the state, bringing high-paying jobs for Georgia citizens. Having NCR here will also generate more businesses, taxes and payroll.”

Dayton: NCR
This would bring me to my next question. The source told the AJC the $31.1 million offer from Strickland was too late. “We did not receive that offer until this evening... it pales in comparison to what Georgia is giving,” said the source. If GA is giving these companies so much incentives to move there, If they happen to be in the red in the future. Should they be bailed out if things don't work out as planned?????
-
Dayton: NCR
Crazy a company would move from an area after 125 years. I guess board members are the blame or they really can make more money in GA. Ohio needs to change it's tax codes
