Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
This guy is saying the stuff that I wish more politicians, if they had a backbone, would say. I heard him talking on Air America Radio and he called Bush & Co. (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc) "Chicken-asses" and "Chicken Hawks"!

Delaware County: Developments and News
JohnOSU99 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI worked on the Liberty Road re-alignment project for the Delaware County Engineer's Office and according to them the project is a done-deal and is on a fast track because developers are breathing down their necks to get it done ASAP.

Spring Break in London, UK
I really liked Madam Tousouds (sp??) wax museum. I went to it just because its a touristy place that everyone goes to, but it turned out to be pretty cool. I also took a tour of Shakespear's Globe Theater down on Clink Street which was cool. I think the London Dungeon is in that area too.

Spring Break in London, UK
1. If you see nothing else you have to see the Tower of London. The Beefeaters give a great guided tour and once that's over they let you just walk around and explore on your own. The White Tower portion was built in 1100 and is very impressive. 2. Do some people watching at Victoria Station. There is a bar in the middle of victoria station that is on the second floor of a little retail building which makes for a great birds eye view of the hustle and bustle of the train station during the afternoon rush. 3. Buy a day pass for the London Underground and use it often! The Tube will take you everywhere you need to go. You should be able to get to all the touristy stuff if you buy a card that is good for Zones 1 and 2. 4. Take at least one Tour Bus trip outside of London. The best one I've been on went to the city of Bath which has a 2,000 year-old Roman bath. 5. The last time I was in London the pubs still closed at 11:00pm (but there was talk of changing that law). If the pubs still close at 11 then you'll need to find an "off-sell" bar which stays open later. I stayed at the New Atlantic hotel in Paddington which had a bar within the hotel that stayed open until 3am (some of the best times I had in London took place at the hotel bar  )

How Do You Explain Ohio To People?
I was in Atlantic City last year and I was sitting at the 3-card poker table when I was telling this couple from Philly about Cedar Point and Put-in-Bay. I told them that you could take a boat from the "Ohio mainland" to the island and the pit boss started cracking up..."Ohio mainland, yeah right" he laughed. Why are New Yorkers so depressed? Because the light at the end of the tunnel is New Jersey. Fahgeh'bah it!

Origins of city names in Ohio
Gallipolis = Latin for City of the Gauls (French) which refers to the original settlers who were French. Gallipolis still uses a lot of French icons (Fleur-de-leis) around the city despite the fact that most of the original French settlers left Gallipolis soon after they arrived. The funniest billboard that I've seen in Ohio is the one on US-35 that you can see as you head west out of Gallia County which says "Au Revoir!" in big letters.

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
That is a very scary "big brother knows what's best for you" kind of statement. There's no denying smoking's dangers, but to say that a corporation should be allowed to dictate what we do in our private lives scares the hell out of me. Next you'll see undercover health enforcers from Scotts scoping out all the fast-food joints in Marysville because the Fatty McAsses working there are running up the health care costs as well.

Religion in America - (Demographic Maps)
There are a lot of small towns/counties with large universities, so I'm surprised there aren't more counties showing up in the muslim catagory (assuming that BGSU is the reason Wood county has a high Muslim percentage). Any maps for Hindu? In regards to the Religious vs. Non-religious map....I always knew that Ann Arbor was godless!

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
JohnOSU99 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell we have great things going on in different parts of downtown: Brewery District, Whittier Peninsula, RiverSouth, Discovery District, and Arena District. Having a LRT to connect all of these distant areas would be great (i.e. pipe dream), but I hope that COTA will at least have an effective transportation system for downtown in place (BRT? Downtown Circulation bus route?) once all these development plans come to fruition.

Pomeroy / Meigs County: Developments and News
Good news for Meigs County indeed. I worked on the new SR-124 which connects US-33 to the Ravenswood bridge. With the Lancaster by-pass, Nelsonville by-pass, and Athens-Darwin upgrade, US-33 will be the quickest way to get from Columbus to Charleston, WV (as opposed to US-23 to US-35). Once all of the 33 upgrades are complete I think Meigs county will benifit nicely, I hope.
