  1. A sneak peek of The Delco in downtown Dayton Step inside The Delco, recently completed for Columbus-based developer Crawford Hoying by Brackett Builders, Inc., located at 340 E. Built in 1915 as Delco Plant #2 and later known as the Mendelson Building, The Delco features 160 apartments, an indoor garage featuring 482 parking spots, a rooftop swimming pool & sundeck, future retail & commercial space and more. 2. My dad's side of the family has lived in Gallipolis since its founding in 1790 and I always enjoy visiting because it's the only place where people know how to pronounce my last name correctly, lol. I highly recommend visiting when the "Gallipolis in Lights" is going on during the holiday season.

  6. Despite these problems, I hope Clevelanders can recognize that they still have an amazing transit system overall. One of the things that my husband and I love about visiting Cleveland is the fact that we can park our car at the hotel and never have to touch it again for the entire weekend. We always stay at a hotel next to a Red Line station which gives us easy access to downtown and the rest of the RTA bus and rapid system. It hurts my transit-loving heart that we have to show proof of purchase on the Blue/Green/BRT lines, but at least those lines exist and get us to where we want to go.
  7. Amtrak set to break ridership record in 2024 WASHINGTON — Amtrak has announced it expects ridership to top 2019 — pre-COVID — levels this year and reach a new all-time record high even though it currently has less capacity. Ridership is reported 20% higher in the first 8 months of Amtrak’s budget year that began Oct. 1, 2023. Ticket revenue is showing a 10% increase versus the same period in 2023, according to written testimony by Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner presented at a hearing of the U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials on June 12. https://www.trains.com/trn/amtrak-set-to-break-ridership-record-in-2024/

  10. With 100 new jobs planned, new Stratacache business to take root downtown ‘We’re committed to a continuous growth of ... our investment in the Dayton community,’ CEO says By Thomas Gnau The former Premier Health building at 110 N. Main St. in downtown Dayton will be the home of a new “Sales Center of Excellence,” established by a company under the umbrella of Dayton-based global digital signage business Stratacache. The new center will create more than 100 new tech jobs in downtown Dayton, “attracting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)-savvy talent in data science, advanced sensors, digital display and complex network operations,” according to PRN, a Stratacache business that says it will recruit data scientists, retail media sales professionals and others to work there. 11. So happy to see the increase in density of businesses on this part of E. 5th. Now if only there was a way to redevelop the land that the USPS sorting facility is on to better connect St. Anne's Hill to the Oregon District.
  12. Pretty much all transportation options are subsidized at some level, I just wish the subsidies were more evenly distributed. It feels like we're putting all our eggs in one basket when it comes to overly subsidizing roadways while simultaneously underfunding local public transportation and regional rail options.
  13. I don't have access to the article...how many jobs will be created by this project?
  14. I plan on visiting Cleveland for my birthday in August and my only birthday wish is that the Waterfront Line is back up and running on a regular schedule. Here's to another birthday wish not coming true, lol.

  16. With all the new developments going on in this part of downtown, I hope the RTA restores the Flyer service back to the original route which used to run in this area. Maybe the Dayton Dragons and Five River Metroparks could co-sponsor the northern portion of the Flyer route to replace the funds that Premier Health withdrew which caused the RTA to severely truncate this route.
  17. I still miss wandering around the eclectic mix of items for sale at Mendelson's, but am super excited about this project.
  18. We make the 2-hour drive up to Toledo to catch the train instead of going to Cincinnati (1 hour away) since Toledo has daily service via the Lake Shore Limited and Capitol Limited. Even if we don't ultimately get direct train service here in Dayton, increasing the Cardinal line to daily service through Cincinnati would be a huge win.
  19. All this news is so exciting! Hubby and I took our first ever trip on Amtrak in 2022 (Cincy to Huntington, WV) then followed it up with two trips last year (Toledo to Chicago), and yesterday we booked our first Amtrak trip of 2024 (Toledo to NYC). I'm definitely looking forward to riding in newer train cars (current fleet is older than I am) and the 3C+D route.
  20. I graduated from OSU 25 years ago and I feel like I could spend an entire day walking around campus just to see all the things that have changed since then. I can't believe the Thirsty Scholar is still there!
