Toledo also had a combination department store, furniture mart, deli, food market, toy store, circus named Tiedtkes. This store was an event. It was a mecca for the downtown and closed in 1972. The building was destroyed by fire in 1975.
To the poster that said Toledoans don't miss Lion store must live in a separate part of the city then I do. I frequently hear people muse about the closing of Lions. They never accepted the Westage move to Franklin Park, let alone the change to Dillards. I'm not sure where the line that it was more expensive than Dillards came from either.
There was a Lamson, a Lion Store, a Lasalles, which became Macys (I don't think anybody called it Lassale Koch) and Tiedtkes anchoring downtown into the early 1970s. All closed in that decade. There also was a Jacobson at Franklin Park (Jackson Mi. chain, but still somewhat local) and Elder Beerman has replace the old Lasalles, Macys - while the old Hudsons, Marshal Fields has become Macy's ????
