New camera meets Dayton skyline
Pretty much entirely because I have a Canon 35mm and already own several lenses which I can use with this one, too. (So I guess I can't help too much with your decision!)

eBay: 2000 Ohio photos from 1900
Shoot, you could knock all those out in one! Example: "^ My ColDay tour of Stryker, Ohio. I'm glad this happened while touring one of its suburbs (Toledo), though; inner-city Stryker is no place to be stuck with a broken car!" I just quadrupled RiverViewer's efficiency!

New camera meets Dayton skyline
Not at all- spitting and throwing shoes would be fine! RV, here is the original of one of those (no room left on pbase!). The full resolution is not as impressive as one might like (although I suppose the fuzziness near the edges has to do with the lens), but even so you can shrink it down to a point where everything looks sharp and still have a pretty large picture.

Winter! Post your pics here!
Closest thing to a winter photo I've got this season- an ice sculpture in Boston at New Year's. It actually was chilly there on New Year's Eve (although not super cold), unlike the last couple of years.

New camera meets Dayton skyline
(Look Ma, no tripod!) Hello everyone. I seem to have devolved to a lurker, but I'm not dead yet! With a little inspiration taken from RiverViewer, I have made the leap to digital SLR. Got a Canon Digital Rebel XTi (aka 400D), the current entry-level camera from those good folks. Naturally I had to try it out once it arrived via UPS today. And it was too damn cold to do any real walking-around photography, so I just went for a couple of the usual angles on Dayton's skyline. (Well, let's be real- it was also too damn cold to be standing on a bridge for 45 minutes, but whatever.) Perhaps tomorrow's warmer weather will be suitable for happy photo time. Just thought I'd post a couple... Because I have to get a panorama everywhere I go, even when I already have two or three panoramas from the same spot. (Clicky if you like.) Sunset Pretty sky And then I have sixty shots that look pretty much like this one. Almost worth the frostbite!

Urban Ohio "Picture Of The Day"

One-way to Two-way street conversions - good idea or bad?
The only downside I personally see to Dayton's one-way streets is the potential confusion such as Ronnie mentioned (although it's not a problem for me). On the whole, I like the one-way system in Dayton as it is- it's pretty easy for pedestrians, left turns and parking don't back up traffic, it flows well (drive 20 mph and you'll likely hit all green lights), and--although I admit to not often being downtown during any kind of peak hours--I've never noticed a particular need to "calm" the traffic there.

Columbus Gets "Walk/Don't Walk" Signs With Timers
Signs with countdowns are great. At the main street crossing at Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, I learned the number of times the hand would flash before the light changed, and then would always count to know if it was worth quickening my pace. This extra mental activity is responsible for all subsequent problems in my life.

2006 Results by Geograpy?
Good question! I don't know how many there are because I merged them pixel-by-pixel (don't worry, not manually), but yeah, there must be a lot. One of the things that's interesting to me is to see which areas seem to show up most clearly- in most places it seems to be the Ohio House districts, I guess because they are smaller and more varied, but in some places the county boundaries still stand out. It's hard to pick out the US House district boundaries at all in most places. I just noticed something suspicious on this map. Three solid blue districts in NE Ohio are showing up here much more red than they ought to be. Better check my methods...

2006 Results by Geograpy?
Okay, figured out how to do the composite I wanted (in a strange and roundabout way). This map is the average red value and average blue value from the other four maps of U.S. House, U.S. Senate, Ohio House, and Governor. Nothing too remarkable about this, it seems, but it's still somewhat interesting.

2006 Results by Geograpy?
Here's the one for the Ohio House. The brightest ones are unopposed candidates. As soon as I've messed around with Photoshop to figure out how to do it the way I want, I'll post the aforementioned composite map of several races.

2006 Results by Geograpy?
Purplicious! Here are three maps; I'm also going to do one for the Ohio House, and then (once I figure out how) make some kind of composite of all four.

2006 Results by Geograpy?
Yay, election maps! I'm working on a few "purple" maps... we'll see if they show anything interesting.

Happy Halloween! How many trick or treaters did you get?
Zero for me. Halloween in Madison is not marked by trick-or-treaters so much as thousands upon thousands of drunk people. But even aside from that, I'd be surprised if there are more than a handful of children living anywhere near me.

I took the ColDayMan Dayton Tour!
Excellent, I'm glad to hear you finally got the tour! The ColDayMan Tour™ showed my sister and I things we hadn't seen despite living in the area for half our lives. Good tour from a good tour guide, even if [insert sarcastic anti-ColDay comment here].

CincinnatiRoads.com: UPDATED 02/2007, with OTR!
Thanks folks! Now we just need to get on RiverViewer's case to go record some more videos. :bang2: Probably didn't matter much. For one thing, NACIS is not as much of an academic group as some others; it's quite a mix of academics and professionals.
