  1. Greene County probably doesn't deserve its own "growth" thead, so I'll just stick this here. I've been hearing of the supposed rapid increase in enrollment in the Beavercreek school district, but it still seems surprising to me somehow. Three new schools sounds like a pretty big deal... and it was only 5 or 6 years ago that the high school nearly doubled in (physical) size! Beavercreek board votes to build schools By Ismail Turay Staff Writer BEAVERCREEK | The Beavercreek school board unanimously voted Wednesday night to construct new schools to remedy the district's overcrowding problem. Officials have yet to determine how to fund the project and are weighing a number of options, including one that calls for the state to fund 50 percent of the construction if a proposed bill passes. 2. CSAs are combinations of existing metro/micropolitan areas. They're essentially based on commuting... if the commuting is above a certain level, the combination is automatic; if it's within a certain lower range (but still above some minimum), the combination is made if local opinion supports it. It's probably worth noting that they don't include just random individual counties, but counties that are already part of a metropolitan or micropolitan area (although in the latter case those generally are single counties).

^ I am basically 50% WASP and 50% Russian Jew. It's interesting... my mother (the Russian Jew half) is often asked if she is of Italian heritage. And ColDay, to steal your phrase, QUIET FOOL!

C-Dawg, I've never met you of course, but based on pictures I saw a guy that looked just like you here in Madison a few weeks ago. You don't work in a grocery store in Wisconsin in your spare time, do you?
  5. Actually, we did stop in there!
  6. While I was in Ohio for the weekend, my family went up to Delaware for the first time since I graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University a year ago. The occasion was the Delaware Arts Festival. Meanwhile, I of course got some photos... Yeah, festivities of the artistic variety going on here Fair wanderers Comestibles What fun The Bun's sign! Sandusky Street I spent the better part of 2004-2005 wondering what was being built here. Justice Who can resist? Good question Happy fun sidewalk time Windows! Back to Bun's Since I felt my existing collection lacking, I insisted on getting some residential pictures. I'm no architecture buff, but I think Delaware has a pretty nice collection of old homes. Here are just a few... The old jail... I forget what it is now Got any broken shoes? I've been told this is the oldest building in Delaware (1821) And of course some Ohio Wesleyan photos... Ooh, shiny! That'll do for this time!
  7. I confess to only skimming this thread, but my stats nerd radar went off. How exactly does this American Community Survey work? It's not the usually cited estimate... the ordinary 2004 estimates are: Columbus 730,008 Cleveland 458,684 Cincinnati 314,154 Toledo 304,973 Akron 212,179 Dayton 160,293 (Those estimates don't include any demographic information, of course.)
  8. Thanks everyone!

  11. Part 1 Part 2 begins on Main Street in Over-the-Rhine. Neato! New Orleans Lady, xumelanie, LaMichelle One of my boys Heading up Prospect Hill... Music Hall Requisite skyline shot Liberty, I believe Needs more power lines This church is awesome Cool alley Heading back downtown now Library Now the driving tour. ColDay's crew waits for monte to arrive. Nati Joe likes it, too. Drink up, ColDay! Next stop is Clifton. We're here on Ludlow... The penultimate stop is the Covington Riverfront. Copying monte's idea for a shot. Anything for a photo... My sister, LaMichelle View that river! (But without RiverViewer!) We end at Mt. Adams for dinner. Grasscat action shot! To end, as always, here are some panoramic shots. Click on them for the large size! Congratulations if you made it this far! I hope it was worth it. Again, thanks to everyone who attended for making it a great meet!
  12. Looks like I'll be number four to post some pictures of the Cincinnati meet. And by "some" I mean a lot. I took 223 photos during the day, and will post about 100 of them. Since they're loading kind of slowly for me, I guess I'll split them into two threads. This one will be Carew and downtown. 'Twas a great time, and it was a pleasure to meet so many of you! Thanks to all! We begin, of course, atop the Carew Tower. (BTW, panoramas from up here are at the end of Part 2.) This is one of my favorite Carew Views. You can actually see King's Island in this picture. Vine Street Helicopter! Fire!!!! :-o In context All lined up... Meanwhile, the firefighters have arrived. They put the fire out. All is well! Back down on the street, we slowly wander toward lunch. L to R: xumelanie's husband, xumelanie, New Orleans Lady, ColDayMan, Paradox21, Clevelumbus's head, a very small part of Quimbob's head (I think), and 50% of RiverViewer. The FD is still here Paging OTRFan... Grasscat soaks it all in Cincy-Rise walks toward the light *insert joke about Cincinnati being stuck in the 19th century*
  13. Indeed, thank you all! Thanks to the locals for their knowledge, to the drivers for the transportation, and to the disorganized organizers for setting it all up! It was a great time and it was wonderful to meet you all!
  14. Rich- nice work! I do envy your equipment. Very nice to meet you! And RiverViewer- holy crap, how the hell did I not know about this gmap pedometer site? Thanks for posting that! I'm going to use it all the time now.
  15. Monte, since you have a question mark- LaMichelle's name is Lauren. (I hope she doesn't mind my announcing that.) This is not a valid enough excuse, please try again. I'm allergic to PigBoys? Aw, c'mon... you can put up with just one, can't you? :-D
  16. Yes, and I even grew some more thumbs... I think last time it was 8 or 9.
  17. Twelve thumbs up!
  18. ^ Sounds like another event for the group to crash. And so close! You'd better come to the Columbus meet, ink... we need proof that you exist!

^ The numbers you're wondering about... they're metro-wide employment, not population. BTW, I liked the picture. Thanks for posting it!
  20. RiverViewer of course summed it up already... it's not something I had wanted to require, but the thing just works a lot better with it. Also, some of the measures I've taken which really improve the general performance of the map (i.e. panning and zooming) are only possible with version 8. Things were really pretty choppy before. BTW, Magyar, I've tracked down a couple places where you've posted about this site (by looking at referring links for visits)... thanks for helping to spread the word! Oh, and thanks to everyone else for your compliments! And please, if you have criticisms or suggestions, we'd like to hear those too!
  21. ^ Know any cartographers down there at LSU who might have comments or suggestions on the map, even if they're not geek enough to be interested in the subject? Assuming RiverViewer doesn't mind, I can add those links...
  22. Nice. I want to be El Rey de Taquitos!
  23. If any of you are re-visiting this thread... Can I ask how well the thing seemed to perform for you? That is, when zooming and moving around the map, how smoothly did it seem to move? (And how good is your computer?) It's something I've been trying to improve over the past couple of weeks and am always curious how it performs on other computers.
  24. Not yet... check's still in the mail.
