Well, I know that you are a heartier soul than I when it comes to getting up for the sunrise. I haven't had a schedule that demands activity in the morning for quite some time now... rising before the sun is hard! Yeah, some clouds would have been awesome. At least there were those few cirrus clouds, though. I'll settle for the ducks in the foreground this time. Of course, the only reason I picked today was because I knew it would be clear- I'm not waking up if there's a chance of not even seeing the sun! (Plus it's either now or October to get the latest non-freezing-winter sunrise.) :sleep: :sleep: :sleep: At least I can always catch the sunset at a moment's notice. Last time I did so was a couple of weeks ago, when there was still some ice on Lake Mendota: Ink... I'm with you on that building. There are a lot of modern buildings about that size in Madison and most don't thrill me, but I rather like that one. When spring really comes I'm going to go take some photos of that neighborhood and have a closer look. The last I'd remembered of it until today was its damn crane messing with my shots! :x

...that's Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin, for those who don't know. I foolishly got up way too early today to deliberately watch the sun rise for probably the third time in my life. I walked across Madison's isthmus to Lake Monona because geography is such that the sun wouldn't be rising over the other lake which is practically outside my window. But no matter... it's a short walk. Anyway, here's the scene. This and another were the most cooperative ducks for photos ever! There it is! Just a wider shot. And a parting shot as I walked away. Just a few pictures of that dawn glow as I walked back home. This is a new building, presumably residential although I've never actually looked to see what it is. Looks like it's almost finished. The Wisconsin capitol, of course. James Madison Park, which is just down the street from me (it's the view out my window). This is on the other lake, Lake Mendota. Can't catch a sunrise here, but it's good for sunsets!

Good question. I think it was demolished, at any rate (I think Jeff had some pictures), but I haven't seen anything since then. Somebody here must know, though.

Great stuff! Bad weather can't make Cincinnati ugly. An interesting thing I see is that the glass on Scripps still shines quite nicely even under cloudy skies.

I think it's "single point urban interchange."

Apart from the Little Miami trail and I guess the Great Miami one, I think most of the area bike trails are the "rails to trails" kind that largely traverse open farmland. Which isn't to say they aren't nice... just not the most scenic. The main longer trails are the one to the northwest (through Brookville), and several that converge on Xenia. Can't say I like any one of them better than the rest, though.

Interesting that it's not an option. I went to the SMF website and searched... some people have suggested some code that you stick somewhere or other to make it display. See if these make sense to you: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=18340.0 http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=36714.0 If it is as simple as those people make it sound and you are able to do it, my humble suggestion would be to use one of the variations where the "Location" still displays even if the field is empty in the user's profile. That way people will see it next to their names and might actually go fill it in. Thanks for your effort!

Here's a pointless little list I came across. It's the gross metropolitan product of Ohio's metros (numbers a few years old) compared to the output of various world countries. Ranked by gross metropolitan product, the Ohio metro and world country its output is greater than: Cleveland-Lorain-Elyria - greater than the Czech Republic Columbus - Algeria Cincinnati* - Algeria Dayton-Springfield - Slovakia Akron - Syria Toledo - Ecuador Youngstown-Warren - Turkmenistan Canton-Massillon - Kenya Hamilton-Middletown* - Latvia Huntington-Ashland - Bolivia Mansfield - Afghanistan Lima - Paraguay Parkersburg-Marietta - Malta Wheeling - Cambodia Stubenville-Weirton - Papua New Guinea *These are old metro definitions, so Butler County (Hamilton-Middletown) is separate from Cincinnati, leaving Cincinnati nearly tied with Columbus and therefore without a unique country to surpass! *Edit*: Found the whole list with the countries included. Cincinnati with Butler County included would rank just above New Zealand. I have no idea of the source on the international numbers, and a quick Google search suggests the GDP of the Czech Republic is significantly greater than the gross metropolitan product of Cleveland. So take the list for what it's worth, which is probably nothing. Still, it's a great point of pride, isn't it? :wink: "Mansfield - stronger than Afghanistan!"

^ I'm not a fan of "issue" license plates in general, even if it is a good issue. My preference would be to say something more general like your first examples, and let the money go to the issue. Why, you'd be strung up in Dayton with talk like that! Not that I think it's the best license plate slogan ever, but I like sticking it to North Carolina and their claim to fame of four useless flights on a beach one day.:evil:

The future is now! By "later" in the above post I apparently meant not that much later. These are just rough drawings that are probably innacurate in places. Cincinnati... in red are the surface lots within the official CBD boundaries. Darker red is a few more lots nearby. Cleveland... your official CBD is too damn big. (But hey, you've done a good job of tearing down a lot of it. :wink:) I just traced the lots as far over as E 18th, and kinda sorta to the Cuyahoga on the other end. You don't need red graphics to discern the various seas of parking lots outside that anyway.

That map is interesting. Although you can see how many zillions of parking lots there are, you can also see that there is in fact a core area free of surface parking. I'm bored and it's easy enough to do... I'll whip up a couple of maps and post them later.

It used to be there at one point, right? Seems relevant on a place-based forum such as this. If nothing else, seeing it next to every post would encourage people to fill in the field in their profile. I'm often wondering where some newer or less-frequent posters are from, and the location is hardly ever filled in in people's profiles.

Cripes, I forgot about that tree tunnel in Sugarcreek... that one goes on my list, too.
